Chapter 49
"Peggy, why are you up so early? You don't have any classes today.."
"I know, but we've got a crime to report, Mars," Peggy replied, brushing her hair quickly.
"Ohhh right," She yawned. "You can do that, I'll go back to sleep..."
"Please?" She pouted, doing her best puppy eyes. "We need to!"
"Lord, show me how to say no to this..." Maria chuckled.
"Great!" Peggy beamed, running out of their bedroom.
She ran around their apartment in search for all the evidence she gathered. About 10 minutes later, the couple were ready. They went downstairs to the lobby and waited.
"What are we waiting for?" Maria asked softly.
"Not what. It's who," She answered. "My sisters are coming to pick us up."
"Oh, wait that's them!"
Peggy and Maria hurriedly went out of the building and see Angelica driving a car.
"Finally got my license," She grinned. "Now get in."
"Took you long enough," Peggy teased, getting inside. "Hey, Eliza. Sally."
"Hello," They both waved in unison.
Once Maria was seated, Peggy said, "Alright, to the nearest police department, Angelica."

"I CAME AS SOON AS I HEARD!"
A disheveled, sleepy looking John came bolting through the doors of the police station, making everyone in the room stare at him.
He frowned. "What y'all lookin' at?"
Everyone went back to what they were previously doing, except 5 girls.
"Maria! Angelica, Eliza, Sally," He panted. "And Peggy...?"
"Alas, you're finally here John!" Peggy exclaimed.
"I thought you went driving then had a car crash..."
"Nah, that's just to get you here faster," She said nonchalantly.
"Seriously."
"Yep!"
"Anyway, why did y'all call me to come here, at the police station?" John asked. "You know I don't like the cops...No offense." He quickly added as an officer came by.
"Because they have a feeling Paine's the reason for Alexander's amnesia," Angelica grumbled.
"And you don't?"
"It's quite hard to believe it..."
"Well ya better, sistah," Peggy sighed. "He nearly killed John!"
"He seemed sincere when he apologized at the coffee shop," John mumbled.
"Key word: seemed," Maria deadpanned.
"Oh alright. What am I supposed to do?"
"Help us report the case!" Peggy chirped.
"Whyyyyyy?" He whined.
"'Cause you're doing this for Alex!"
"Well, of course I'm in."

"So, you're saying that the Thomas "Pain" Paine is convicted of the following crimes, which is..." The police officer paused, and looked through his notes. "'pushing people off buildings' and 'running over a turtle boi with a car'...?"
"Yes, sir!" Sally confirmed.
Angelica shook her head. "Not me, they are."
He frowned. "And what exactly is a turtle boi?"
"This is ze turtle boi," Peggy said, patting John, who gave a sheepish smile.
"But he isn't a -"
"Look beneath him," She whispered, making mystical hand gestures. "What do you see?"
"Ma'am, I am not an X-ray -"
"WHAT DO YOU SEE?" She shouted quickly. Maria, Eliza and Sally had to cover their mouths to not laugh.
"U-uh a turtle boi...?"
"Good," Peggy smiled, satisfied.
"But, Miss Schuyler, there's not enough evidence -"
"Protest one more time and I'll call my father," Eliza warned, narrowing her eyes.
"Alright, alright, pleAse! Don't!" The officer sighed. "But even if we do happen to place him behind the bars, his reputation and money could change that."
"Then place him behind the bars multiple times so he could get bankrupted!" Maria exclaimed. "Simple."
"I'm afraid we can't do that, Miss," He said. "I suggest for y'all to leave. It's nearly closing time. Until then, you may gather more evidence and come back."
"We've been here for nine hours..." Eliza mumbled.
"I took some time to explain, I guess," Peggy stated.
"Alright, let's go," John said, finally speaking. "Thanks, sir. Good day-"
Sally laughed. "It's night, Laurens."
"Right. Bye!" He pulled his friends out of the room, wanting to escape from the police station.

Knock! Knock! Knock!
"Alexander?" John opened the door, peeking inside the dark room. The light from hallway illuminated part of the dark room.
"John?" Alexander called from inside. He was curlep up in a bundle of blankets, sipping coffee and watching a 'Dear Evan Hansen' bootleg on the couch.
"Well, it's the middle of the night," He frowned, getting inside their apartment and closing the door. "Why are you still awake?"
"I could ask you the same thing."
John chuckled, and set his bag down by the door. He walked towards the couch and sat beside Alexander.
"Ooh, this is a nice part," He commented, as For Forever played.
"It's sad..." Alex mumbled.
"No, I'm talking about me stealing your laptop so you could sleep."
"Wh-" But it was too late. John swiftly grabbed Alex's laptop, closing its lid, and ran around the apartment, Alexander tailing behind.
"GIMME BACK MY LAPTOP!" Alex yelled, making grabby hands. "Legs, do not fail me."
"NOPE!" John laughed.
John placed the laptop on the top shelf of the bookcase, where it is out of Alex's reach. Alex pouted and crossed his arms.
"Awww, alright, you can have your laptop," John said.
He smiled. "Really?"
"In the morning."
"Nooooo!" Alex whined.
"Yesssss!"
"Dammit," He yawned.
"Alright, time for bed."
"Oh alright. You win this time."
John grinned triumphantly, thinking that even if Alex may not regain his memories, life with Alex is just enough.
~~×~~
Thomas Paine stuck his head against the floor. Although it's weird to do that, he needed to.
"Thomas Paine shall strike again.." He muttered, rising up from the floor. "If that's the last thing I do."
