Chapter 37

Alex's POV-

"Babe, wake up." I heard a voice whisper at my ear.

I let out a groan as I buried my head under my pillow. I heard a light chuckle.

"It's too early..." I grumbled, my voice still groggy.

"Hun, how late did you stay up last night?" The voice, who I recognized as John's, asked in a stern manner.

"Mm.." I thought. "10 P.M. or 3 A.M..."

"It's 9:00 already." John said, removing the pillow above my head. I covered my eyes as the blinding the light from the sun tortured my eyes.

We were going to visit John's parents at South Carolina. We had already packed our stuff the night before, so we just needed to eat breakfast, change clothes, and go.

"The others are already downstairs." He whispered.

"And there's coffee~"

"I'M UP!" I yelled as I heard "coffee". I rushed downstairs, seeing my friends eating cereals and eyeing me carefully.

I sat on a stool beside Peggy, poured the milk then the cereal and started shoving the food in my mouth.

"What?" I asked, my mouth full of cereal, as my friends looked at me. "Why y'all staring?"

"You hair." Everyone said in unison.

"Manners." Angelica grumbled.

My face flushed pink in embarassment as I tried to tame my hair. After a few struggles, it finally came down, not looking like a nest.

John came down a few minutes after, already dressed.

"Hey," I pouted. "Don't leave me!"

"I won't." He chuckled.

"Come back soon!" Peggy chirped.

"It's just a week, Pegs." Maria laughed.

"But I don't want my best friend to leave me!" She whined.

"We're also your best friends, mon ami." Lafayette huffed.

"Right." She nervously laughed. "We'll see you soon."

I nodded and hurried upstairs to change.

~~×~~

"We'll be back soon!" I clambered to the driver's seat of John's new car that he bought two months ago, as I finally got my license.

"Hey, why are you sitting there?" John asked, putting his hands on his hips, as he sat beside me.

"BYEEEEEE!" Peggy waved.

"See ya guys!" John waved out the window, before I finally stepped on it.

"You know, I should drive." He finally said, chuckling.

"I know the way. GPS was invented." I laughed, getting my phone and putting it on the stand.

"I know it by heart." He smirked.

"And plus, it's a 12-hour journey."

I hit the brakes. We haven't gotten far. I looked at my boyfriend with wide eyes.

I grinned sheepishly. "Let's switch."

John's POV-

Alex and I switched places. We had just started the journey, and he's already asleep.

"Awh." I softly cooed, admiring my boyfriend.

Boyfriend...

I honestly still couldn't believe that, but it's real.

"Jack, stop staring at me, stare at the road." Alex giggled, opening his eyes.

I widened my eyes, fixing my view back at the road. My face was red.
"S-Sorry. You could still sleep, though."

Alex nodded as he drifted back to sleep. Occasionally stealing glances at Alex, as he is much more interesting than the road in front of us, the long journey was rather boring, until he woke up.

"What time is it?" He yawned, opening his eyes after 5 hours.

"Mm.." I hummed. "About 2. Wanna stop for lunch?"

~~×~~

"John, wake up." I felt a hand or my shoulder shifting me awake.

I opened my eyes to see Alex and...

Home.

Alex has offered to drive for the last few hours, as I had been driving for too long.

"We're here!" I smiled.

"Whoa..." Alex gasped. "I didn't know you were..."

"Eh, it's a bit big-"

"IT'S HUGE! THIS IS LIKE THE SCHUYLERS MANSION BUT TWICE THE SIZE!" He gaped.

I sheepishly grinned, helping Alex unload our bags. "Yeah, but we're not one of those spoilt rich people." I shuddered.

Alex nodded, admiring the lights and breathing the fresh air. "It's nice to be out of the dirty city air."

I snickered. "Let's get inside. It's nearly midnight."

Alex and I pulled our bags to the front door. With a soft ding, I pressed the doorbell and waited.

Inside, we heard footsteps getting nearer to the door.

"Jack! Alexander!" We were greeted by Martha. "It's great that you could spend the summer with us."

"Nice to see you again, Martha." I grinned, pulling her into a hug.

"Damn, you guys must be tired from the long journey. Come on in."

Alex and I trudged on the stairs as we carried our bags, tired from the journey.

"Hello, Jack. Alexander." Dad was there, waiting for us up the stairs.

"Hello, Dad." I smiled. "Where are the others?"

"Well, Henry and James still have school tomorrow. It's nearly their break. And Mary's already asleep." Dad said. "You could see them tomorrow."

"Kay, Dad." I yawned. "We'll see you tomorrow."

With a nod, my dad retreated back to his room, as Alex and I shoved our stuff in my room.

"I get to see your room!" Alex squealed, earning a chuckle from me.

"Of course, Lex." I smiled. "Why so excited?"

"Oh, nothing..." Alex mumbled, grinning widely as I unlocked my door.

Yes, I locked it before I left so my siblings won't plot an attack when I come back.

"Super duper not excited to see where the love of my life grew up..." Alex smirked, making me blush.

"Shut up." I paused before opening the door. "Please, don't laugh."

"I won't." He laughed.

"See? You're laughing." I chuckled. "For real now."

I swung the door open. It looked exactly how I left it, except the sheets were freshly changed. Dad must have gotten the spare key and changed them. I smiled.

"Whoa..." Alex stood still, mouth agape, an expression that I could not read.

"So?" I asked. "What do you think?"

I had a white four-poster bed, with blue curtains hanging around each post. I had a large window at the right side, which lead to a small balcony, where I usually took inspiration when I paint.

I had a marble counter by the wall, where I placed my art supplies and a few other stuff.

Just by the door was a long white bookshelf, which contained all the books from the authors I adored, and still do.

My walls were a light shade of blue, sending an aura of peace and calmness throughout the room.

My whole room had the theme of blue and white.

But my walls were probably the only thing that ruined it. I'm not saying I hate the walls, I absolutely love them.

Just not enough that it would steal me away from Alex.

Every inch of the wall were sticked with posters and playbills of countless musicals.

"Wow." Alex chuckled. "You're a much bigger musical fan then Peggy was."

"That's because I introduced them to her." I smiled triumphantly.

"Oh, really?" He shoved me playfully.

"Oh, yes." I smirked. "I could do that to you as well."

"Oh, please, no." He begged, fainting dramatically.

"Okay, okay, drama queen." I joked. "Time for bed."

He nodded and went to get his pajamas to change in the bathroom.

"YOU HAVE A HUGE BATHTUB!" He screamed. I giggled quietly.

Knowing that Alex would be back soon, I hurriedly slipped out of my dirty clothes and put on my turtle pajamas, since they're cute.

Who am I kidding, they're adorable, beautiful, cute--

But Alex is definitely cuter.

"sleep..mm.." Alex immediately flopped down at the bed.

I chuckled. "Finally nice to see you sleep and not clicking away in your laptop-"

"Still brought it!" He raised a hand, which limply fell afterward.

I giggled, slipping through the sheets.

Alex snuggled up beside me as we listened to the soft chirping of birds and crickets outside. It was so peaceful, it felt like cloud nine.

"How does it feel like to be home?" Alex asked, looking up to me.

"Honestly, it's great to be back." I smiled.

"I love it here..." Alex mumbled.

"There's one thing you're wrong at."

"What?"

"I'm home as long as I'm with you..."
