Alex's POV-
It's roughly been a month since John and I started dating, even if we haven't been on a date yet.
TheSquad™ figuratively exploded when we announced it.
It was almost Valentine's Day. Tomorrow actually.
I had no idea what to give John. And I've been extremely busy with extra essays.
It was night, once again. I have been working pretty late.
"Alexander come back to sleep..." John yawned, hugging me from behind, which was rather hard for him, since I was small and sitting down at my desk.
"Let me finish... I promise just a few more words."
"Alright." John went back to bed and closed his eyes.
I closed my laptop and sighed. What do I give to John?
I looked at John and went beside him on our bed. We only use one bed together.
Once I laid down, John started spooning me. I chuckled softly, leaning my head against John's chest.
"Love you, Jack." I smiled.
"I love you, Lex." He opened his eyes, looking down at me. "Jack? Really?" He snorted.
"What? I like it."
"Okay, goodnight..." He yawned then fell asleep. I giggled, watching his chest rise and fall.
I guess I'll find out what to give him tomorrow.
-tomorrow-
I woke up to nothing. No John.
"John?" I asked, but then remembered he had classes today.
I changed clothes then walked out to see Eliza and Sally eating breakfast.
"Before you ask, the others have class." Sally said, munching on some eggs.
"Alright." I got the milk from the fridge and cereal from the cabinets.
I poured the milk into the bowl then the cereal.
"YOU PUT MILK FIRST!?" Sally shrieked.
"Yeah why not." I said, mixing the cereal.
"IT'S ABSURD!" Eliza exclaimed.
"Eliza betrayed me." I said, drawing fake tears at my face. "At least the author is like me."
"Oh really?"
"Yes, got a problem with that?!"
"Indeed, I do." Sally said.
I continued eating my cereal then placed it at the sink. "I'll just go to the library, guys."
"Don't you have class?" Sally asked.
"Not today." I said, grabbing my phone and keys. "Adios!"
"Adios, mi amigo!"
I walked down the stairs to the ninth floor then boarded the elevator.
After the long journey of the elevator, I arrived at the first floor. I greeted the Front Desk manager then went outside.
February, the month of love.
I wondered where John was and if was how we were going to spend our first Valentine's this year. I frowned.
I walked inside the library and saw Mrs. Rosario.
"Hola, Alexander!" She waved. "Another libro?" She asked. I nodded.
(Translation: Book.)
"Careful, Alexander. You could finish the whole library before you even graduate." She joked.
"Maybe I will..." I mumbled.
"Bueno, disfruta!" She waved as I disappeared out of sight.
(Well, enjoy!)
I went to the fiction section. I always loved fiction. You get to escape the real world for even just a moment and live in a world of fantasy. Reading books was always my escape from my problems. I read and sometime I feel like I'm part of another world, with no distractions and nothing will harm me.
I chose a tragedy book. Sometimes, tragedy books are more realistic to me. It makes me aware that my problems are just a small fraction of all the problems in the world. That there are problems far worse than humans can imagine.
I chose A Series of Unfortunate Events.
I always like to sit at the corner, were I couldn't be distracted. I brought the first 2 books and read and read and read and read and read.
I was so focused into the book, I didn't check the time. I was only broken away from the world of words when a notification popped up.
I opened my phone and smiled at the message from John.
Jacky 💞: Hi, Lex where are you?
Lexi 💖: at the library why?
Jacky 💞: Can I walk with you?
Lexi 💖: sure
It was past 7, and getting dark.
I closed the 2nd book, as I am already finished with it, and placed them back where I found them.
I waved goodbye to Mrs. Rosario and found John at the entrance holding a white rose, my favorite.
"John-" I smiled, but was interrupted by John kissing me. Of course, I kissed back.
"Happy Valentine's, Lexi!" John grinned, giving me the flower.
"Thank you, John." I blushed.
"Come on!" John pulled me towards off-campus.
We walked around the busy streets of New York, all in theme with Valentine's Day.
"Whoa..." I admired the lights. The lights illuminated the dark streets of New York City, making a light show.
John lead me to wherever we were going. Finally we stopped at Central Park.
"John, where are we going?" I whined.
"It's a surprise." He giggled.
"Okay. Can't say no to this." I shrugged.
John laced his hand with mine as we slowly walked through the park. Then I noticed something.
By the pond was a huge tree. It was decorated with fairy lights and a small blanket, a cooler, and a pizza box was underneath.
I gasped at the sight and smiled. "When were you able to do this?"
"I missed some classes..."
"For me?" I asked.
"For you."
"Awwhh." I giggled. "How romantic."
"Really?"
"Except the pizza box." I snorted. "But everything is perfect."
"Like you." He complimented as we walked towards the tree.
"No, I was talking about you!"
We sat down and intertwined fingers as we ate.
"You have some ice cream at your nose!" He giggled.
"I do?" I laughed.
"Yep!"
I licked my nose and resumed eating my ice cream.
John looked at me in shock. "H-How?"
"I got skills." I said, doing jazz fingers, like how Laf did 4 months ago.
"You sure got skills that made me love you."
"Same goes for you." I chuckled. "Hey, let's go to the dock." I pointed at the dock, which also had fairy lights attached at the fences.
"Sure."
We stood up and went to the dock. We sat by the edge, our feet dangling above the water. John placed his hand on top of mine and blushed. I nodded and leaned onto his shoulder again.
Soft music was being played from who-knows-where as I tapped a beat.
"Hey, have you listened to Heathers?" John asked out of the blue.
"Yeah. Why?"
"Because I'll push you in the water if you didn't." He joked.
"You wouldn't." I giggled.
"Yeah, I love you too much." He happily sighed.
I started humming throught the tune of the song.
I sang,
"All of my life
I thought I was right
Looking for something new.
Stuck in my ways
Like old-fashioned days
But all the roads led me to you."
I looked at John, to see him admiring my voice. His eyes softened and he smiled.
I continued,
"The house that you live in don't make it a home.
But feeling lonely don't mean you're alone.
People in life, they will come and they'll leave.
But if I had a choice I know where I would be."
Through the lows and the highs, I will stay by your side.
There's no need for goodbyes, now I'm seeing the light.
When the sky turns to grey and there's nothing to say
At the end of the day, I choose you."
I sang, hitting every note, perfectly. I looked at John. His eyes looked like a he was about to cry. I stopped singing and slightly laughed.
He looked towards the sunset. He began to sing,
"Now I found the strength
To make a change
And look at the magic I found
No matter the name
Or where you came from
'Cause no one has much figured out
The house that you live in don't make it a home
But feeling lonely don't mean you're alone
I finally found where I feel I belong
And I know you'll be there with wide open arms
Through the lows and the highs, I will stay by your side
There's no need for goodbyes, now I'm seeing the light
When the sky turns to grey and there's nothing to say
At the end of the day, I choose you"
We both sang, looking into each other's eyes,
"I choose you."
I sang softly,
"Through the lows and the highs, I will stay by your side
There's no need for goodbyes, now I'm seeing the light."
Our voices mixed in harmony. They fit like two pieces of a locket.
We are two pieces of a locket.
"Through the lows and the highs I will stay by your side
There's no need for goodbyes, now I'm seeing the light
When the sky turns to grey and there's nothing to say
At the end of the day, I choose you
Oh, I choose you"
I pulled John into a kiss and smiled.
I choose you...
