Chapter 1
Alex's POV
I waved goodbye from my friends. It would be a long time until I can see them again. Tears streaked down our faces, from sobs to hard crying. I embraced each of them tightly; I ended up nearly choking one. I then thanked each for the help they gave for sending me to King's College. My life was ahead of me, and the reason was right behind my back.
The screen that had all the flights, or whatever foreign stuff that is, said that my flight was due to take off in a couple of hours. It was quite early; but I just wanted to make sure I did not miss it from dozing off or something similar. Taking a deep breath, I followed the rest of the travelers (which were mainly tourists) to check-in. With one final look at everyone else, I gave them a smile of gratitude.
After the next two hours, I went through this airport procedure and soon boarded my flight, covering my ears. Is it always this loud? I sighed and finally found my seat by the window.
I plopped in some minty gum to my mouth and listened to Panic! At The Disco, hoping that I wouldn't get dizzy as soon as we started the flight. Of course, this being my first time, it took some time getting used to it. (I had to run to the bathroom to throw up a piece of my lunch just after the plane took off.)
I was in awe. I gazed down the deep blue waters of the Carribean Sea. It had only be a few moments, but I felt really insignificant considering that the sights below was immense. I grinned. Well, we're definitely going to fix the insignificant part once I landed.
The flight turned out great, surprisingly, in spite of all of my discomforts of the passenger who was snoring quite loudly beside me. The food was decent enough for me.
The journey had only lasted for five hours when one of the pilots announced through the speakers that we had to land. I arched an eyebrow in confusion before I realized the dark clouds grumbling outside my window.
Well, shit.
If you have a fear of storms on the ground, shouldn't you also have a fear of flying through one?
I gasped, soft enough for my still snoring seatmate to not hear, as my heart and breathing quickened its pace.
I noticed that the place started slowly descending. After what seemed like hours to me but apparently minutes to my watch, we finally landed. The temperature has dropped immensely. I shivered. I was totally not used to it compared to others.
All of us got to the airport before the rain dropped. Luckily, the rain wasn't that loud inside. The passengers had to stay inside for the night since all flights were canceled.
I had money in my wallet, so I decided to buy something that would feed my stomach until the morning. After parts of my mind debated on which food to feed myself, I ended up getting pizza.
I moved myself and the bags to the side where most passengers came sleeping. I made my backpack to a pillow and my small luggage behind my back. It wasn't that bad.
It was worse.
My back ached for the whole night and I had a cramp in my left forearm. Yet slowly, I drifted to sleep. I couldn't let a little pain steer me away from my goals.
~~×~~
I woke up to the sound of my alarm set in my watch. It stated it was 15 to 6 in the morning. I yawned, all, if not most, passenders asleep with not a care in the world about their luggages. A thief's dream..
My flight moved to 7:10 so I thought I better freshen up. I went to the nearest bathroom with my bags. I know, it's pretty weird to do that but it's better to be safe than sorry, right? I quickly walked back then waited for a couple of hours. We then boarded the second flight.
This flight was different from the last. More people were in it, for sure. I found a seat beside a hazel, curly-haired boy.
He had brown eyes like deep whirlpools that sucked you right in. He was quite tall, maybe 5'10. I was around 5'7. Freckles scattered through his cheeks like constellations. I was quite fascinated. I smiled fondly to myself and placed my headphones on again.
I bit my lip in nervousness and started wiping my hands on my pants since they were sweating. I frowned. Why on earth would I start getting nervous? This was already my second flight, nothing to worry about than another storm. But surely, the flight would have to get delayed again if there was.
I mentally groaned and might've accidentally slammed my head against the window, in which caused that my new seatmate to notice me. He asked if I was alright in which I said a yes.
That's when I realized I really wasn't. The boy beside me nodded uncertainly and turned to watching the movie in front of him. I was quite curious about him; I couldn't exactly explain why or how I was.
The freckled boy glanced nervously around his surroundings. Maybe I had been staring too long at him in wonder. I silently scolded myself. Again, I started getting into my nervous habits.
Did I say I was staring at him?
Oh, okay — hold up, what?
I frowned. Heck, I just met this person — actually, I haven't, I've only seen him and I have yet to find out his name! — I don't know him. Plus, we're probably never going to see each other again, New York City is bustling with so many people!
I crossed my arms to my own disappointment. I can't believe my bi self allowed me to make me all red.
But, alas, I couldn't control myself. I kept sneaking a few swift glances to this mystery man to get a better look at him. Besides what I gathered on earlier, he seemed like a young man, around his late teenage years or early 20's; he seemed liked a college student. He likes turtles, I observed, seeing the turtle prints he had on his shirt.
I glanced at him once more and saw him looking at me too, which made me quite surprised. I realized he was doing the same thing as I did.
I finally got a better look at his brown eyes. There's so much, I don't know, treasures deep beneath them. I smiled, him also giving one back in return. Maybe, just maybe, we could at least be friends.
"Hi, I'm called John — I mean, I'm named John. Ack. That's practically the same meaning, right? Oh, goodness gracious, forgive me. My apologies. I'm just — " He sighed in defeat. "I'm John," the boy, now I know was called John, said, stammering through his words.
I laughed, holding out my hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you, John. I'm Alexander. Alex, for short."
John gave me a weak smile and shook my hand. "Pleasure, indeed."
I quicky let go, recalling that my hands were sweaty and were starting to get even more sweaty again. I awkwardly scratched the back of my neck. "Sorry."
"Yes, I've noticed your hands are quite cold. Are you alright? Perhaps, is it because you've been glancing at me?"
Oh, so he noticed. I flushed red in embarrassment. I stayed silent, except the color of my cheeks gave him the answer.
I know it was way too fast for me to be falling. How ironic it was to be falling in love in a rising plane.
His eyes widened as he noticed my slight discomfort. "Oh, I'm so sorry again. I'm usually not like—"
"It's fine John," I reassured, shaking away the thoughts and changing the subject. "So, I've noticed that you liked turtles..."
I was no longer scared of more thunderstorms. None ever came. John and I had talked to each other about random things that popped in our head. It was nice to have a friend here.
I had been enjoying myself with his prescence that time slipped between my fingers liked water. The complete opposite happened to me from yesterday; an hour turned like a minute. It's really strange how time acts differently when you enjoy things or don't.
Soon, the plane landed. Everyone immediately standed up but my newly found friend and I. I was disappointed that we had to go our separate ways.
He gave a weak smile and waved, "See you soon, Alex."
Knowing well enough that we may not see each other again, I still smiled and said, "See you soon."
We entered the airport along with the rest and, as I dreaded, we headed our separate ways.
I came to pick up my bags then headed out to the Taxi Bay. The temperature dropped.
"This New York City is just getting colder." I shuddered.
Soon, I eventually learned how to get a Taxi. I thanked him for the ride then paid him $20. "Keep the change".
It was getting dark so I ran my way to my new college in which I was offered a scholarship, King's College. I entered the lobby then made a beeline to the Front Desk.
"Hello?" I asked. The lady behind it didn't look up so I tried again, only louder. "Hello~!" I chuckled.
The lady got startled. I immediately apologized, then she replied, "Oh, sorry. Can I help you?"
"Yes, I'm new here and I need my schedule and my dorm key," I continued.
"Oh! Name please?"
"Alexander Hamilton."
She typed my name to the computer then handed me my schedule and key. "Dorm 1757, 4th Floor, Building 3. Your dorm mate is already there waiting."
"Thank you...umm, Peggy," I stated, looking at her tag.
"No problem!" she said with a cheery smile. I left her with a friendly nod and headed back outside.
I thought she looked pretty young. Maybe it's a part-time job or she was a student volunteer. I picked up the pace, though that was hard with bags around you. Soon I arrived at Building 3. I didn't know how to use an elevator but, anyway, someone was riding with me. He asked, "Floor?"
I mumbled, "4th Floor, please. Thank you."
"New here?" he asked, as I simply nodded.
He continued, "Aaron Burr, would you look me to show you to your dorm? I'm also on the 4th Floor anyways."
"Yes, please," I replied in a nearly begging tone. We exited the elevator. I almost forgot to tell him my dorm number. "I'm at Dorm 1757. Oh sweet, that's Lin's birth year, as I believe."
"Oh, you will love your dorm mate. He's from France, a scholarship student. I'm assuming you are too?" said Aaron. I realize that he had sarcasm in his voice for the first sentence.
Yes, sentences, I am aware that I'm in a fanfi-
"Yes, I am," I confirmed. We halted on a door, labeled 1757 on a brozne plate. Aaron waved goodbye and I nodded gratefully. I unlocked the door then looked at this place I would be staying on the next few years.
Distant screaming could be heard in the living room. I walked in then shut the door as quietly as possible. I grabbed my things then saw why they were screaming. Video games, specifically this weird video game with mushrooms and a red dude riding cars.
(Alex doesn't know Mario Kart, unfortunately.)
I crept in quietly, trying my best to stay away from attention. My mission failed. I stubbed a couple of my smallest toes on a nearby table, which made me yelp in pain.
Oww.
I hopped on one foot then fell, out of balance. I laid on the floor face flat, while my bags were on my back.
That hurts.
I lifted my head slowly. I saw two blobs, which I think are the two people that were playing. I closed my eyes then fell asleep on the floor.
Lafayette's POV
I and Herc noticed the yelp behind us. We leap into action as we see the boy fall unconscious. I told Herc, "Get painkillers and a glass of water."
Herc nodded then ran to the bathroom. I lifted the boy to the couch, not minding the game.
Oh, he's light.
I checked if he had any injuries. Turns out he has a sprain at his left ankle joint.
I moved his bags then went to grab an ice pack. As I returned, I heard a groan. I walked quicker, then sat beside him, placing the ice pack on foot. The coolness surprised him, he shot his head up, eyes wide and looking around. I waved my hand to signal that I'm here. Hercules arrived shortly. He gave the painkillers and glass of water to the boy. He accepted it and drank the glass 'till the bottom.
Alex POV
I was pretty thirsty. I placed the glass on a coffee table beside me. I decided to break the silence of the other two, "Hi...?"
The one putting an ice pack replied, "Bonjour, mon ami. How are you feeling?"
I recognized the French accent and thought that he must be my roommate. "I feel a little dizzy... j'ai mal à la cheville" (my ankle hurts).
He was glad that someone else knew French. He nodded, "Oui, anyways, I'm Marquis de Lafayette. Call me Lafayette or Laf."
The other one was wearing a bandana. "I am Hercules Mulligan, Herc for short. "
I smiled and thanked them, "Thanks. Alexander. Alexander Hamilton, or Alex." I tried to get up but they stopped me.
"Mon ami, you must rest. Let your ankle heal maybe an hour or two," Laf said. I nodded as a reply.
I asked them if they could carry my bags to my room. They answered, "Yes", in unison. After that, I felt like sleeping. My flight has been restless and I need to rest before school starts in a couple of days. I closed my eyes and the world dimmed.
~~×~~
I woke up and saw Laf sitting beside me. I sat up then tried to stand up. Lafayette noticed me and asked, "Ahh... you're awake. Would you like anything?".
I shook my head then walked to my new room. I smiled at it. White walls, white bed, black study table, black closet. My two favorite combos, Yin, and Yang. For the next hour, I started unpacking my stuff. It only took ten minutes to unpack, I didn't want to overpack. The other fifty minutes were organizing and re-organizing. I left the room and sat on the couch, opposite to Laf. I just noticed Herc was gone. Laf seemed to read my mind. "Herc went out around thirty minutes before you woke up."
"Oh. I just wanted to say thank you."
"No problem-" Laf was cut by the ringing of the phone. "Hi, Herc. Oui, he's awake. Sure. I'll ask. Text me the details, oui?" The phone ended. Laf turned to face me. "Soo... I'm going to hang out with the gang. Wanna come and make friends?"
I shook my head furiously and went to change my two-day-old clothes. I chose to wear a plain white sweater and skinny, sky blue jeans. I fixed my hair with a green tie. I ran out of my room with my keys. I met Laf in the living wearing a casual green shirt and over-sized, navy blue jeans. Laf stated, "I'll drive. We'll meet in a Mexican restaurant off-campus. It's a ten-minute drive."
We rode down the elevator then headed to the parking lot. Lafayette's car was a color green Nissan. He must like green... I hoped in my seat. Laf placed the key in the ignition and started driving.
~~×~~
Ten minutes later, we parked the car and entered the restaurant. The atmosphere was peaceful until a familiar girl shouted to us. "
YO LAF WE'RE HERE! Oh is Alex your roommate?" It was Peggy, wearing a yellow, long-sleeved dress that reached just after her knees.
I waved, "Hi Pegs!" I didn't know what to call her but she just agreed with it.
Laf asked, "Herc, is Johnny boy here yet?" I swear that name was familiar.
Hercules responded, "Yeh, he just went to refresh himself and fix his room."
We went to sit with them. I was in between Laf and Peggy. Across me was a girl with a pink dress and curly hair. She sang, "AngeliCaAAaA."
Another girl beside her with a blue dress and straight hair sang along, "ELizAaAaaA!"
Peggy joined in, "And PegGY!" I laughed.
They said in unison, "The Schuyler Sisters!"
Soon we started introducing ourselves, hobbies, birthdays, and such. When Eliza was speaking of her love of drama, the door opened and an extremely familiar boy showed up. They all greeted, "hi". That's when I noticed who it was...
John's POV
I entered the restaurant. I noticed my friends and made a beeline to them. It's been too long. That's when I noticed someone new in the group.
"Hi, Alex!" I said, not caring about what I saw- or rather, who.
"Oh hi, John!" He replied. My eyes widened when I noticed.
"ALEXANDER?"
"JOHN?"
