With a new name, and a new life in the city of New York, New York, Splinter and his three sons walked back to their apartment from the grocery store. It was late at night and they were all tired.

As they passed an alleyway a strange man in a suit with a blank face turned into it. The father then got a bad feeling in his stomach, so he stopped to investigate. "Wait here my sons. I will be back..Do.Not.Move." He said as he started to eavesdrop on the strangers conversation. He peaked over the corner and saw an identical man. Perfectly identical. The second man was holding a canister of what looked to be some sort of green ooze.

Splinter could hear them speaking about something called 'mutagen' but barely. He tried to get closer, but accidentally stepped on a rat's tail gaining a loud squeak of pain from the creature. Luck was not on his side when he prayed they didn't hear it; because they did. They turned around and rushed at him. "This is a place in which you are not allowed to be. This is a place in which we have been seen by you, so this is the place that you will not leave."

One of the men came at me and tried to punch my face but I dodged easily. I  I palm-punched him in the stomach and he stumbled back a bit. Then the other came at me. This one tried to sweep my leg, but I jumped high, and before I landed I changed my direction. I grabbed hold of the fire escape, swung off of it and kicked the first one in the face. I then jumped back off and landed on the second.

Just then, as I was walking to check that the first man was really down, that rat walked slowly across my foot and in my distraction, my hand hit the trash can that the glowing canister had been sitting upon. It fell and broke splattering all over myself, and the small creature.

They were nodding off, but were doing their very best to stay awake. They were trying to stay awake because so that their groceries were not stolen, so that they were not kidnapped, and so that they did not get lectured later. But they woke up immediately as they heard screams of pain. If they were any other screams they probably would've run away, but they knew whose voice that was. It was their father's voice making that bone-chilling sound.

The three children rushed around the corner into the alleyway and saw an unimaginable sight. Their father was growing an unnerving amount of hair and large ears atop his head. Was he getting taller..? WAS HIS FACE GROWING OUTWARD?? WAS THAT A TAIL?? WHISKERS AND CLAWS??

Donnie cried in fear of what was going on. Raph scowled ready to fight whoever had done this to his dad. Leo stared in shock in disbelief that this was happening. It was late at night after all. Maybe he was dreaming. After everything had calmed down, Leo spoke. "D-Dad..?" He questioned, with a slight step forward. Splinter took a deep breath, and turned towards his sons. "My boys. Even though I look different, I promise I am still me. But because of my new appearance, we must find a new way to live. A new home. Somewhere no one will ever find us. Do you understand? We will go back tonight and pack our things. You can bring three items you really want, but the rest will be CLOTHES and ESSENTIALS ONLY. Tomorrow night we will have to leave. Alright?" He spoke carefully and slowly to make sure they would understand.

They all spoke their versions of "Yes Papa." The small family did just that. They didn't forget their groceries; they would definitely come in handy while looking for a new home as not everything they bought had to be cooked. A lot of them were snacks.

After they'd packed they had dinner, and went to bed in the living room when the sun rose. When night fell the four of them set off to find a new home. It took a while, but they found a spacious one. An abandoned subway station. They lived there for a few months. Until a bunch of those men attacked. After that incident, Splinter figured maybe they shouldn't be above ground at all.

So he left his underground. Into the smelly depths of the sewers. After wandering around for a while, the found the perfect place. Another abandoned subway station, but this one wasn't just abandoned, it was completely forgotten. And it was perfect. So they made their home here. Splinter decided he would teach his sons the art of ninjutsu after they had gotten settled in and had time to relax; just in case anything else might happen. That way they could be prepared for anything that might happen.
