| Ch. 11 | Regret |
I regret getting out of bed this morning. I regret skipping first period to go get a coffee. Let's just say I'm regretting a lot of things and it's only the beginning of lunch period.
I prayed for it not to get worse as Nathan sauntered over as I picked at my unappetizing lunch. "Hey Nate."
He grins and slides into the seat next to me. "What's up buttercup."
I shrug, closing my eyes softly. "You look exhausted." He says, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear.
"Long night." I mutter, my eyes still shut.
"Long day actually. " I say opening my eyes to a concerned face. Nathan nods, swiping a drink from my water.
While it had been two weeks since the first infamous blog post I wasn't too keen on being seen with Nathan. Call me crazy but sometimes I still feel like I'm being watched.
"Yeah I get it." I nod in response.
"Are you coming to the basketball team pre-season barbecue?"
"At your house?" He questions.
"That's the one." I answer
"I plan on it. Does that mean I get to see you in a bikini?" I can tell he's trying to hold back a smirk as he pursues his lips.
"How about no." I laugh softly as he pouts.
"Well...damn."
"Sorry bud."
The bell rings and I mumble a goodbye before tossing the remains of my lunch in the garbage. Class time.
~
I could feel his eyes on me as I struggled to keep my eyes open during my last class; where we aren't doing anything but waiting for the bell to ring.
I nudged Nathan under the table and pried my eyes open. "Why are you staring?" I say, resting my head on the desk.
"You've kind of made it hard not to stare doll." He says, his eyes finally straying from my face. Glancing down at my t-shirt and joggers I quirk my eyebrow.
I laugh a little bit. He's quite the charmer. "Sure." I say, laughing some more. He chuckles slightly and turns toward me in his chair. "What's so funny, huh?" He asks, a smile dancing on his face.
I shake my head, a smile lingering on my lips. Nathan grins and meets me at the door when the bell rings. "To basketball we go!" He shouts, grabbing my wrist and practically dragging me to the gymnasium.
"Meet you at my truck after practice." He says and then dashes off to the guys locker room. I hurry to get changed and fill my water bottle before going into the gym to put on my shoes.
Today's practice was strictly conditioning and that wasn't anything I was looking forward too. But to keep this team on top we had to train and conditioning was a key part to success.
We had a game coming up in a three days and the only way to start off a new season is with a win. Time to condition.
~
I jogged out of the school and towards Nathan's truck, still mildly of breath with my bags flung over my shoulder and hair flying in my mouth. "Stupid wind." I mutter, pulling a chunk of hair out of my mouth.
When I arrive at the truck Nathan takes my bags and throws them in the back while I get in the passenger seat. I grab a hoodie from the backseat and shrug it on, watching my hands disappear in the long sleeves.
Nathan chuckles and starts the engine. "Damn. You little hoodie knapper."
I laugh and steal a drink from the cold water bottle sitting in the cup holder. "How's coffee at seven sound?"
"Sounds great but I might have some third wheelers." I say, remembering mine, Collin, Amber, and Connor's plans to do something, anything, tonight. "Hey whatever works." Nathan says.
"Okie dokie. Looking forward to it." I say smiling softly.
~
"—And a coffee for you. Everybody got everything?" Nathan asks, raising his eyebrows.
A chorus of yeahs arise from our table, tucked in the corner of a small downtown coffee shop. I take a sip from the iced coffee that was placed in front of me and shoot Nathan a smile smile when Amber nudges my foot and nods towards the bathroom.
Um..we'll be right back. Amber says, pulling me by my arm to the bathroom
"What the hell is your issue?" I ask when the bathroom door slams shut.
"Collin and Connor wanted to talk to Nate. And I had to pee." Oh boy.
"Oh um okay." Maybe I should've brought my coffee.
Nathan
The three of us watch as the girls run off to the bathroom and I turn towards Collin and Connor.
The both of them cross their arms over their chests, attempting intimidation.
"So, we both know we weren't really invited, you just wanted time with my sister didn't you?" Collin stares at me, stone faced.
"Well, yeah. I mean there's been something I've been wanting to ask but—"
"You're planning on asking me first." Collin finishes.
"I mean, yeah. Just with basketball and everything I don't really know if either of us has the time."
"That's really not my decision... but I guess it wouldn't do any harm if you two were together." I nodded and heard the girls' chatter come back to our table.
Harley shoots me a small smile as she sits back down. Man, I think I might just have the time.

Okay, this was shorter than regular chapters and I also haven't updated in like four months, I know I suck. But look out for another chapter within the day!
