as a rubber band can go on its own
when you vanished without a trace
i snapped back in place, but not back in shape

you held aloft my self worth
like atlas did the heavens
and i selfishly thought it'd be eternal

but without any obligation
my weight was too heavy upon your shoulders
so you shrugged
and i toppled

forcing me to relive a time before you
and to know a life after you

now my dignity remains idle and i wonder if our perfect delirium in the midst was relevant or worth the time

as i feel worn out, yet go on unchanged
