Conversations In The Rain
"Cathy! Cathy!! Wait!" I called out to her but she wouldn't stop. I got closer to her and held her shoulder. Her clothes had been drenched by the rain.
"Don't touch me!" She shrugged my hand off.
"Wait, please. Please." I stood in front of her with the umbrella on my left hand and my right, holding her hand.
"Leave me alone, Dan! It's the same everytime, you say the worst things, then you feel sorry afterwards. I'm tired and done with you this time." She left my front and walked away.
"I'm sorry. It was the whiskey. Please don't walk away, at least stay for the night." I helplessly watched her walk without turning back.
"Yeah. Go solve your drinking problems." She turned and said.
The rain heaved down with maximum effort, the wind accompanied it. She folded her arms to her body as the wind blew the lower part of her gown sideways, her hair danced in the air, her gown was so drenched that the strap of her bra was visible at the back. "I have to stop her. She will easily catch a cold." I paced down towards her and wrapped my hand around her neck, drawing it towards my chest as I stood in her front, "I can't let you go, Cathy. I just can't."
Few seconds later, she unfolded her arms and hugged me with her head resting on my chest, "I'm sorry, Dan. It was too much for me." She began sobbing. "Please tell me this is the last time it will happen." Her shaky voice became audible.
"Definitely." I responded and kissed her head. The wind took control of the umbrella in my hand, "Woah! It's way too windy. Let's go home, Catherine." She broke free from my hug and held my hand as we walked.
"C'mon, let's walk faster." I pulled her hand and we began pacing faster. At a point, I undid the umbrella, it wasn't really helping. The rain poured down on us, we laughed as we ran in it. It felt like we were kids again. The singlet I put was soaked enough by the rain to make my nipples obvious. "Climb on my back." I stood in front of her.
"Don't be silly," She laughed gently. "Let's go." She continued her run. I stood for a moment to watch her run, I felt very luck to have her back again that night, I was lost in my thoughts when she shouted, "C'mon, Dan! Aren't you cold?"
"Coming!" I jogged after her.
When we got home, she went straight to the kitchen, took the bottle and emptied it into the sink, "This will be the last." She said. I stood there watching her, I didn't mind if I had to lose the whiskey, the only thing I cared about was having her back.
She shivered, her clothes dripping of water, she sneezed loudly. "See, you're having a cold already. Let me get a blanket from my room." I said.
"No. I'm fine." She responded.
"No, you're not. Give me a minute." I walked into my room and picked up the blanket laying on my bed, went back to her and wrapped it around her.
"Thanks. I need to get this dress off first."
We went into my room and she pulled of her gown, exposing her undies which were also wet. I took a towel to dry her wet hair and wrapped the blanket around her as we sat on the bed, she sneezed again. "I'm sorry, I'm out of coffee, there's nothing hot I can prepare for you to keep warm." I said.
She hugged me and said, "Don't worry, you're warm enough for me."
"Let me get you something to eat then."
"No. Just sit here with me. This moment is enough for me." She rested her head on my shoulder with her arms wrapped around my body.
"Alright." I patted her hand.
Everywhere was silent for a while, I stared at the wall, thinking of nothing in particular, her head was still rested on my shoulder. The silence wasn't comforting, Catherine wasn't usually the silent type, I needed to say something, then I began, "Cathy, I'm sorry about everything. I didn't mean to be unfaithful and rude, I just got caught up in all this mess. You're still the only one for me and you know that very well. I'm sorry."
She didn't reply, I thought she didn't know what to say, I turned and looked at her only to discover she had slept off. I was sure she didn't hear any of the things I said. I laid her down properly on the bed and covered her with the blanket, I turned to leave when she held my hand and said, "Don't go. Lay down with me." in a low voice, her eyes were still closed.
"Alright." I responded, pulling my wet singlet and jeans. I laid beside her, wrapping my hands around her till we both slept off.
