one
one; THE WEEK FOLLOWING
The thing about life is that when things are beginning to get better, even if it's a slow process, it can all come crashing down in an instant and it can be quite tragic. It had for Daisy, and the tragedy took place in the form of the news that her older sister and her husband had been murdered and she had spent the week wallowing in silence.
Her brother-in-law yelled at her when he saw her weeping over the, in his opinion, best news he'd heard in a long time and Petunia was suppressing her emotions, acting as though she didn't care about their sister dying and she hadn't attempted to mend their broken relationship before she'd lost her. She acted as though she didn't care that she hadn't even seen her since Daisy's twelfth birthday party where she had spent the day making snide comments in Lily's direction while Vernon insulted James for all to hear.
Daisy wanted to spend her days roaming Privet Drive and being consumed by her heartbreak but she couldn't because who would look after Harry?
Harry was the only ray of sunshine in her currently gloomy life, an innocent little baby who didn't realise just how much his two new guardians disliked his presence in their lives, who didn't understand why 'Aunt See' looked so sad when he asked for Mummy or Daddy or Padfoot and when she grew so angry when the other boy his age, who he thought would be his new friend would poke and prod at him and Vernon would only laugh as he praised his son and Petunia only pursed her lips and looked away.
Daisy had barely slept all week, spending her nights in the lounge with Harry resting on her hip as he babbled excitedly or slept, Vernon hadn't allowed Daisy to keep him in her room, nor had he given the baby a room, content with leaving him in the lounge with a pile of old blankets and Daisy had never despised her brother-in-law more, nor had she ever been more angry at her sister for turning a blind eye.
She had quickly come to realise that Harry had missed her in the few weeks that they had been apart, it had been too risky for her to visit their new safe house, James had told her sadly, due to the new wards they had put into place so the very last time Daisy had seen Lily and James before they had passed was halfway through October, two weeks before their deaths.
Their encounter had been a happy one as Lily always managed to push aside how overwhelmed she felt by being stuck inside all day when in the presence of her sunshine sister who never failed to put a smile on her face and the couple adored the way she was with Harry, who loved his aunt dearly.
It had been quite difficult having Marlene and then Emmeline smuggle Daisy to different locations without alerting the Death Eaters who were on the prowl for the Potter's location, but Lily was not missing out on any opportunity to lose to touch with another sister, one who loved her despite her magical abilities.
Daisy adored her sister more than anything and now that she was gone, she was going to pass that extra love on and shower her nephew with so much attention and love, but she knew that Vernon wouldn't allow her too but there was no way in hell that she would disrespect Lily and James' memory like that so she would never allow her brother-in-law to bully her into neglecting her nephew.
But Vernon wasn't a kind man and Daisy had to be careful to not step on his toes because while she had spent three days listening to him shout at Petunia before he had very reluctantly agreed to house the toddler, there was nothing stopping him from kicking Daisy from his home, that much she absolutely already knew, considering he wasn't opposed to spewing that threat even before Harry had been left on the front doorstep.
There was a sadness in Daisy's heart that had been there since she had lost her parents and had only strengthened since reading the letter that had arrived with Harry, notifying her of Lily and James' death and somehow reading the news hurt more than actually witnessing her parents deaths. How could the man that Lily had looked up to not only leave a baby in the care of a woman who he knew held resentment toward magic but inform the two blonde Evans sister's about the death of their sister through a letter?
His sounded awfully cold and forceful.
Daisy received a second letter a day after from Emmeline, which had been much more sincere and heartfelt, and it also gave her details for when the funeral was to be held but she was unsure how to even begin to ask her Petunia to take her because there was no way she'd be able to go alone.
But she wasn't going to miss her big sister's funeral so she had to come up with a plan that ended with Petunia taking her.

"Hey, Tuney?" Daisy questioned as she entered the kitchen, holding Harry on her hip tightly as he played with a strand of hair that he had pulled from where it had been styled.
"What is it?" Petunia asked distractedly as she grabbed some plates from the cupboard and placed them onto the counter.
Her back was facing the teenager who wasn't able to tell what kind of mood her sister was in, but, this moment was her only chance because Vernon would be home any second and he would be utterly furious by her request.
Daisy took a deep breath and she adjusted the toddler, "I want to go to Lily's funeral."
There was a clatter as Petunia fumbled with the dishes she was still holding and there was a sharp intake of breath before the blonde woman spun on her heel, her face drastically pale, but she did not look surprised by her sister's request.
"Mummy." Harry cooed against his aunt's neck when he heard his mother's name and Daisy smiled softly as she pressed a small kiss to the baby's temple.
"I told you not to talk about her." She responded, ignoring the question.
Daisy huffed and winced lightly as Harry pulled on the strand of her hair tightly, "She's my sister, just as much as you are, Tuney."
"Well, why would you want to go?" Petunia demanded as she avoided looking at the baby in her little sister's arms, much like she had since the morning of the second.
"To say goodbye." Daisy's voice broke, "I want to be there to say goodbye."
"You said goodbye to her the last time you saw her." Petunia scoffed, turning her attention back to the plates she was setting out as she thought about all those times her sister would disappear with one of the other sort to visit their sister.
Daisy felt the familiar sting behind her eyes as she glared at her sister's back, "I didn't exactly know that would be the last time I saw her, now did I?"
Petunia said nothing for a moment as she rifled through the cutlery drawer in search for three knives, three forks, and two baby spoons, until finally, "I'm not taking you, Daisy."
"Tun–"
"Absolutely not."
Daisy knew she shouldn't have been surprised by her eldest sister's words but she was and she could feel herself becoming quite angry, but she relaxed herself, finding a tether in the baby who was babbling softly to himself as he swatted at one of his aunt's earrings.
She should have known that her feelings wouldn't cut it, so she had to come up with something because she couldn't get to Godric's Hollow alone.
"Petunia, if you don't take me to Lily's funeral, I'll tell Vernon about that letter you sent to Headmaster Dumbledore where you pleaded to go to Hogwarts." Daisy warned the eldest of the sister's as she adjusted her hold of Harry as he began to giggle, "And you know I will, too."
The fork in Petunia's hand clattered onto the countertop and she whirled around to face her youngest sister, her expression contorted into one of shock.
"How do you know about that?" She demanded loudly as she eyed the open window by the near the stovetop.
"I may or may not have heard that Severus arse mention it once." Daisy responded as she jutted her chin out snobbishly and both she and Petunia grimaced at the thought of the boy who had been incredibly rude to the both of them as children, "So, are you going to take me or am I going to have a conversation with Vernon?"
Petunia continued to stare at the girl in utter shock due to her devious plan.
"Okay, fine, I'll take you." The older woman finally relented, "But, you mustn't ever breathe a word to Vernon."
Daisy beamed and ignored the urge to become rather smug.
"Deal." She agreed as she spun on her heel and exited the kitchen, careful not to jostle Harry too much as she went, "Thanks, Tuney!"
