Memories

Quiet, that's how it always seemed to be on this planet. Hera was talking to Kanen, he was still getting used to his sight being gone. Bumping into things here and there. Ezra, Sabine and Zeb being restless about not being able to do anything. Rex and Ashoka on the older hand, were enjoying this peace. Ezra sat on the floor in the living space of the ghost, reading a book. Kanen threw it at him when he was told to go away, so he decided to just read it.

Rex was 'resting his eyes' when in reality, he was snoring like a bear. Ashoka was reading up on the force, and Jedi techniques. Ezra looked up from the book, then back to Rex. "Rex?" "Hmm?" He grunted in reply. "You told me that you led the 501st clone battalion, correct?" He inquired, "Yeah, and?" "Well, is this you?" Ezra turned the book and showed Rex. Ashoka turned and saw the picture. Her eyes went a darker shade. Rex frowned, "Y-yeah, that's me. And there's Fives, Echo, Jesse and Kix. Dogma, Tupp...and..Hardcase..." He named them off, stopping when he got to Hardcase.

"What's wrong? Should i not have shown you this?" Ezra asked, giving Rex an apologetic look. "No. No it's okay. Hardcase was a good soldier, good man...damn great brother." Rex smiled slightly. "he saved us all, if not for him, we would've lost the battle of Umbara. Him and his terrible flying." Rex chuckled. "The damn guy was nuts! They say he had a leak in his growth tank, made him 'hyperactive'. We teased him, but he didn't mind it. I miss him.." Rex said.

"But, he's in a better place. And he didn't have to suffer...well, y'know." Rex stated. Ezra nodded. Ashoka was relieved that Rex wasn't mad. She side hugged him, then got up to get a drink. "Do you have any other cool stuff from the war? If you wouldn't mind showing me?" Ezra asked, a pleading look upon his face. "Sure. Why not." Rex said, He went to his cabin in the barracks. He grabbed big a box, and met up with his brothers, and Ezra in the mess hall.

"Here it is, everything i saved. This is stuff from when i just began in the army, and before the war ended." He stated, and opened the large, old metal box. Layers of dust on it. As soon a she opened it, he saw something he hadn't seen in years, his original helmet. "What's that?" Ezra asked, "This, kid, is my very first helmet, i only went through two. This one, i nearly got shot in the head, you can see the scrape from the bullet here." Rex pointed out. "Then a few years later, we got our new armor and helmets, and the one i wear still today."

"Is that the picture taken after Me and the other members of Domino squad graduated?" Fives asked. Rex nodded, "Yeah, i kept it. I never knew Cut-up or Heavy all that well. But they were still my brothers." Rex said with a sad smile. "Geez, never knew you were a sentimental guy, Rex." Ezra sniggered. Rex rolled his eyes, and dug through, he saw one of his old blasters, an original DC-17. Pictures of his brothers, both alive, and past. Then, he stopped. "Oh..my..sarlac!" He yelled, he pulled out an old picture of him and Ashoka.

"I thought this was gone! This is my favorite picture of me and Ashoka. This was taken after the battle of Christophsis, we were both dirty, scarred, and aching." He told Ezra, he handed him the picture, Ezra laughed, "She looks so young! And so do you, no offence!" "Non taken.." Rex laughed. "She was...14? I believe so. And i would've been maybe like...16 or 17. Hell i'm only 34 and i look like i'm 60!" Stated Rex. Ezra smiled and handed the picture back to Rex. "Who's that?" Ezra asked, pointing to an old picture.

"That was my General, Anakin Skywalker. Good man. Loyal, brave, and extremely reckless. But he saved my life more times then i can count!" Rex replied. "What's the scariest memory you have from the clone wars?" Ezra asked, "Either fighting on Umbara, or when Ashoka nearly died, due to the blue shadow virus." "What's the best memory?" "Um, When me and the boys got really drunk and threw Cody into the council room naked!" "First thing you can remember about joining the 501st?" "Well, i don't remember much of that, but i just remember always being ready, stressed and edgy. Then i calmed down and got the hang of being in a point of command"

Ezra marveled at Rex and the Other's stories, some of action and adventure, some sad. "Did i ever tell you about the time Ahsoka and Skywalker threw me off a wall on geonosis?" Rex started.

And they sat in that hall, telling the young padawan stories of old. Ezra was happy to hear all about it, he enjoyed the old clone's words of wisdom. And they were happy to talk about it, finally.
