A few years have passed since that day in the library. Elyse had finally started working on her Master's, and her classes were off to a good start. Her friendship with Rachel was still going strong, and she even met a few more of her classmates. As for her friendship with Nelson, that had evolved into something more.

This particular morning, Elyse had started her day like any other, and was on her way to the library when she heard him calling her name.

"I thought you had class today." She says, stopping for him to catch up to her.

"I have some time before I need to be there." He responds, "What about you? I thought you didn't work until later."

"Got a paper to work on." She answers.

"Think you'll be free tonight?"

"That depends on how things go. Do you have something planned?"

"I do. And I want you to be a part of it."

"What exactly is this thing you're planning?"

"A little experiment. I'm going to see if there is something out there after death."

"I thought the point is that we're not supposed to know. And do I even want to ask how you plan on doing this?"

"Still working on it, but the plan is to get some of the others to help."

"And if they say no?"

"They won't."

"You sound very confident about that."

"Elyse, think about it. Imagine what this could lead to if this works."

"Or, it goes completely wrong and you die. Please don't do it."

"I'm gonna come back. I promise."

"Fine." Elyse says after a short pause. "I'll be there, but I won't like it. Now get to class so I can do my work."

"I'll see you tonight."

"See you then."

The two then went their separate ways for the day. Elyse walked into the library, finding a quiet place to work on her paper before her shift started. The problem was, she was having trouble focusing due to the earlier conversation.

'He can't be serious about this.' She thought, 'Could he? Who am I kidding, of course he is. And who else is he planning on talking into doing this as well? I imagine Rachel is one of them, for sure, but who else?' She shook her head, trying not to think about it anymore. 'I just hope they'll have better luck talking him out of it than I did, if that's even possible.'

Even though she was worried, she did her best to work on her paper and stay focused, up until her shift started. She was thankful to have both as a distraction, but that also meant that time seemed to go by even faster as she worked. Although several hours had passed, it only felt like a few to Elyse. The next thing she knew, one of her coworkers approached her.

"Hey, El, your boyfriend's here." She says.

Elyse looked at the clock on the main wall before looking out to the main area. "Geez, am I off already?" She asked the coworker.

"You still have a few. He's earlier than normal. You two got something planned?"

'You have no idea.' Elyse thought, "Yeah, something."

"Well, if you need to go, you can. I got things from here."

"No, I can stay. He can wait."

"Hey, I'm not making you miss whatever date you guys have planned. Must be special if he's here this early anyway. Now go."

"Okay, I'm going." Elyse says, clocking out and gathering her stuff. "See you next time."

She then approached Nelson, who remained silent until they were out of the library.

"Thought I'd pick you up early, just in case you wanted to stop by your place first." He says.

"Well, I would like to put my books and notes away." She responds, "So, what did the others say? Other than this idea of yours is insane, because I would be surprised if they didn't."

"That was brought up. And they'll be there." He adds.

"So you actually talked them into it."

"You say that like it's a surprise."

"Well, I was hoping it would be them talking you out of it."

"This is going to work, Elyse."

"And if it doesn't?"

"It will."

Elyse chose not to respond for the rest of the walk to her home. When they got there, She placed her schoolwork by her desk, and got her coat.

"Alright, let's just get this over with." She says.
