[1] Butterflies

Disclaimer - Few things you need to know:

- This is Sans x Frisk, obviously. If you don't like the ship then... Why are you here?

- Monsters are not trapped underground in this story. This is all on the surface.

- I'm not basing this off any specific AU. I'm writing this solely for fun and to ease myself back into writing.

- Don't expect a solid upload schedule, I don't want to feel like I HAVE to write parts and get them out by a certain date, because that will just stress me out. That's the last thing I need.

- Obviously because it's male Frans, it means Sans and Frisk will end up being a homosexual couple. If you for some reason have a problem with that then this won't really be for you to read.

- Sans, Papyrus and Gaster are not HUMAN skeletons, they are MONSTERS. They DO NOT follow HUMAN biology. I can't count the number of times people questioned in past stories how Sans was able to do things like bleed, even though he isn't even a HUMAN skeleton.

- And lastly, hope you enjoy!

---------------------------

To start off with, when he knew he would be going to a new school, he had been quite... Excited? He knew he was going to be having a whole new start, a chance to leave his old school life behind, which... Hadn't really been all that great anyway. He hadn't exactly had a lot of friends, and was rather quite a loner, so it was not like he had been leaving anyone behind that he was going to particularly miss. And hey, perhaps he could try and attempt to make some friends at this school he was going to be attending... However, when he knew where he'd be going, he knew... It wasn't going to be that easy.

Ebott Highschool, seemingly named after the huge mountain that sat nearby, which as legend goes, was the place that used to house monsters deep underground for hundreds of years. The skeleton only knew this information as stories, because he had been brought out into this world, (6 years before his baby brother, Papyrus), when monsters were already back to living on the surface. He could hardly imagine what it was like to be sealed away for what would have been centuries.

He did know how humans could easily hate monsters though... And that's why he was so nervous about this school - as it housed way more humans than it did monsters, if it even had any monsters attending it at all...

"Alright, here we are, son." His father hummed, as their car pulled up just outside, upon the sidewalk, allowing the 16 year old skeleton to view other teenagers around his age, heading up the school steps to go inside. Just seeing all the humans around was enough to cause his anxiousness to shoot through the roof. His dad - Gaster - must have noticed this, because he continued: "It'll be okay, Sans... I know this is a scary new start for you, but you will be alright."

"will i...?" Sans murmured, staring through the black, circular glasses that sat upon the bridge of his nose, and were held in place upon his skull by a piece of sticky tape, to make up for his lack of ears. Part of him wished Papyrus was here right now to cheer him on, but his little 10 year old brother was currently being taken to his new school by mom... So he wasn't here right now. He really felt like butterflies were swarming around on the inside of his rib cage... "some humans really don't like us, dad... what if i don't fit in?" Sans questioned.

"Don't be silly." Gaster beamed widely at his son. "With your charm and sense of humor, you'll fit right in." The father teased towards the backseat, as he outstretched his hand and placed it gently on his son's skull, as a physical kind of reassurance. "Now come on, you don't want to be late." He hurried him. With a small nod, the 16 year old grabbed his backpack and swung it over one shoulder, as he worked on climbing out of the car. He slammed the door shut, and then waved goodbye, watching his father drive away. He was now stranded upon the sidewalk, having no choice but to venture into the unknown...

Sans knew he probably could have just teleported away, and escaped the current fear that felt like it was trying to eat him up whole, but that would make his mother and father furious, and he knew going to this school was an inevitability that he just couldn't escape. So, he might as well readjust his white sweater and work on putting one foot in front of the other, so he could walk up the concrete steps with upmost ease, (without tripping and falling face first).

Already, as he was heading in through the school's double doors, it wasn't very difficult to feel the eyes from others, that just wanted to pierce into him as he passed by. He was walking down an unfamiliar hallway, so he could find the locker that had already been assigned to him. That had been when he and his parents had been trying to sort out all the paperwork to come here, with the principal, and he had also been given a little tour of the school. But even now, he could not recall a thing from the tour, and he felt like he was going to get utterly lost upon these school grounds. He was calling it right now.

All the lockers were rows of just red. Red, red, red. They were all the same colour, and were standing at just above head height for... The average person. In Sans' case, he knew if a red locker came tumbling down upon him, it would probably crush his small, skeletal figure like it was nothing. After all, he was pretty short for his age... The floors were reflective - light, light brown... The walls were just as dull, not really having anything interesting added to them as they were painted a simple light yellow.

Okay, so... He put the code into the small little padlock that was keeping his locker shut tight, as he had thankfully memorized it already, and hadn't forgotten it, right before the day he'd majorly need it. He pulled the door open, listening to the usual teenage chatter of other students as they were either hanging out at their own lockers, or passing by to head to class. Boys, girls, parties, detentions... Just student stuff.

The skeleton worked on taking out the books he'd need from his bag, for the first two periods, before zipping up his backpack and throwing it into the empty space inside his locker. It may have been empty now, but chances were, over the period of this school year, it was just going to become crammed with shit he'd need for assignments and all kinds of other crap... So he might as well enjoy the satisfaction of being able to put away his bag without any struggle while he could. Just as he shut his locker back up, he heard the sound of the bell ringing away, causing the many humans around him to scatter, and start heading to class. What lesson did he have first? Uh... English. Okay. Where was that again...?

Trying his best to recall where the English classes were located, he headed for some steps, that would take him to a second floor. Two rows of stairs later, and he was brought to yet another hallway, which looked practically empty, minus the few lone students who were scurrying along the walls to get to their class before they ended up being late. Crap, was it here, or...? There was absolutely no denying it, he was 100% going to be late to class. But it was nothing to worry or panic about - he was sure they'd be forgiving towards him because he was a new student. They couldn't be that harsh, surely.

After feeling like the hallway just stretched on forever, the monster decided to turn one of the few corners that were actually offered to him, only to... Feel like he regretted it instantly. Almost the second he had come around the corner, a taller figure bumped straight into him, almost knocking him straight to the ground. He had been very close to dropping his books in the process. And of course, of all the people he had to bump into, it had to be a very tall human who... Did not look like he was having a good day at all.

"Do you fucking mind, watch where you're going, stupid monster." They grumbled in pure irritation, glaring down at him like he had just delivered him the worst insult imaginable. This human appeared to have dark brown bangs - his hair was quite short at the back, but the front was long enough in parts where some of it could almost hang over his two bright yellow eyes. He was wearing a dark grey T-shirt, with what looked like a white long sleeved shirt underneath, black pants and grey sneakers.

"uh, sorry about that..." The skeleton murmured, while the human just grumbled under his breath and he proceeded to push past him, so he could likely head to whatever classroom it was that he was attending... He wondered... "hey, uh, you--!" He didn't know this person's name, so all he could so was call after them and hope they'd respond. They didn't stop. "hey! can you tell me where the english classrooms are?" Sans wondered, and that's when they finally stopped in their tracks, and were back to glaring at the monster, this time over his shoulder. What had pissed this guy off...?

"Wow, are you really that lost? Idiot." They grumbled. "I'm currently heading to English, if that helps at all." They added, but just as Sans was going to walk up and join him at his side, they also said: "You're not walking beside me though. I'd prefer not to have a disgusting ass monster next to me so if anything, walk behind me, and don't talk to me." They snapped, and with that, they continued on their path. Okay... So, this guy already hated him, whoever he was. That made it such an inappropriate time for Sans' stupid mind to think: huh, he was actually kind of attractive, before he snapped out of it and decided to follow him, not speaking another word to him, just like he told him.

He thankfully managed to make it to English class at the very least, even if he had to do it in silence, all in one piece.
