Ten (Final Chapter)
Seungcheol sat down in defeat. Jeonghan was gone now and with the way things looked, he was never coming back. Mrs Yoon had looked so angry. It felt like she was holding herself so strongly so that she wouldn't give him a slap. In his state, he didn't know when Jessica entered the house. She looked at his sour expression.
"Seungcheol, what's wrong" She looked around the house.
"Where's Jeonghan?"
Her brother sighed. "He is gone, His mother took him home with her"
Jessica looked confused. "Why?"
"Our step father set his father up. He took the blame for the drugs he was transporting using his sea vessels. And now, he's in jail"
Jessica stood looking unhappy with the turn of events. "And our step father?"
"I don't know and I don't even care. I can't stand that man"
Jessica was quiet for a while. Seungcheol looked at her curiously until she spoke.
"I have a way of clearing Mr Yoon's name" She said nodding her head.
"I know where our step dad keeps his secret document. It's in a safe inside his bedroom"
Seungcheol looked unhappy "It means you'll have to go back to the house"
Jessica nodded "We'll sneak in and out"
Seungcheol shook his head resolutely "No, I cannot risk that. What if he catches us?"
"He won't. I know how to get in without being spotted. I know that house like the back of my hands"
Seungcheol was reluctant "Are you sure about this?"
Jessica scoffed "That mad man is out there roaming free while an innocent man who turns out to be your father in law is paying for a crime he did not commit"
"Alright then but we need to have a plan"
"Of course"
It was more than a week since Jeonghan left Seungcheol's house. He went to visit his father in jail and he was shocked to see what prison life had done to him. He looked so thin and emaciated. One day, he visited his father one day without his mom because she was so bitter, she kept looking to take out her frustrations in front of his father.
"How do you feel?" Mr Yoon asked him.
Jeonghan forced a smile. "I should be asking you that"
His father smiled "That's not what I mean"
Jeonghan understood "I'm fine"
"Are you sure?"
Jeonghan lowered his eyes and breathed deeply. He had been trying to hold his emotions but it was getting the better of him. He heard his father sigh.
"you're thinking about him aren't you?"
Jeonghan couldn't say anything to that. His father laughed. "Don't listen to your mother. Don't leave him"
"But aren't you pissed off father? Mr Choi framed you up for a crime you did not commit and I feel guilty for being with the father of the man who put you in here"
Mr Yoon nodded with a faint smile "I know, but I have a strong feeling that I won't be here for long"
The visitation was over and Jeonghan watched with a heavy heart as his father was led away by the warden. He made his way out of the station wondering what Seungcheol was doing at that moment. He was tempted to call him but he held himself back. They both needed space at the moment.
Meanwhile, Seungcheol and Jessica waited outside the mansion for Mr Chois car.
"Are you sure he is leaving tonight?" Seungcheol said and his sister nodded.
"He always leaves by this time every Friday to visit one of his mistresses outside of town"
As soon as she finished speaking, Mr Choi was seen driving out of the house. They waited until his car was out of sight then they went in. The servants all recognized them so there was no hindrance.
They wasted no time and went to his bedroom. The safe was behind a portrait. It was something she knew at the back of her mind because each time, after taking advantage of her, he would open the safe. He thought she had been too tired or drunk to notice but she had. She clearly remembered the pass code; 2250638
She typed it and the safe was unlocked. The siblings rummaged through the safe but stumbled upon something they never expected.
"It can't be" Jessica whispered clutching the document in her hands.
"What is it?" Seungcheol asked. Seeing the devastating look in her eyes, he snatched the document and peered at it. He was shocked and nearly lost his balance.
"He killed our mother?" He whispered. The document was the real post Mortem report which clearly stated that their mother had died through poison and not heart attack as was claimed. The real will which shared the company between her children was also there. Their mother must have realized that she had married a monster. Mr Choi was a monster.
"He's going to rot in jail" Seungcheol swore to himself. They also carried the real documents linking Mr Choi to the drug deal. They left the house in a blank state
The evidence was immediately presented to the police and they wasted no time in arresting Mr Choi and releasing Mr Yoon. The last he saw of Jeonghan was at the court where Mr Choi was given a life sentence. He had barely looked at him. The Yoons never spoke a word to him but he let it be. He was determined not to bother them anymore. His friends noticed his bad mood. No one could restore him back. He was slowly dying of silence so T
the responsibility fell on Jessica who decided to run the company until Seungcheol was done with school.
Seungcheol thought that this was only a phase going on between him and Jeonghan but the days turned into weeks the weeks into months. He couldn't take it anymore. He decided he was going to see him whether he wanted to or not but he got the shock of his life when he received it, divorce papers. He stared at it dumbly. It was a punch to the gut when he discovered Jeonghan had given up on them. He wanted to be free of him so he was going to do what he wanted and divorce him. He took his pen and signed. They were officially over.
Five months later.
Jeonghan heard that the convocation ceremony had been really great but he hadn't gone. Instead, he had stayed home locked up in his room looking into space. Ever since his mother showed him the divorce papers that Seungcheol had signed he had stopped being himself. He hardly talked or went out. He just sat there in a sorry state. His door opened and his parents entered. There were tears in his mother's eyes. She knelt down close to the bed in front of him.
"Jeonghan, I'm so sorry. I never should have forced you to sign the divorce papers. If I had known it would make you change like this, I would have just let it be"
She sniffed "You missed your own graduation party because of this" She cried.
His father smiled "All what your mother is trying to say is that if you want to go back to Seungcheol, you have our full support. We won't stop you"
The color returned to Jeonghan's face. "Really?" he whispered in disbelief. His eyes red.
"You'll let me go back to him even after what happened with his father and us?"
Mrs Yoon sighed. "Mr Choi isn't his real father anyway and it was because of him and his sister that your father got released. We owe him and besides that, your happiness is most important to us"
Tears of joy fell down his mother's face as her son hugged her. Hearing her son talk after such a long time was truly refreshing.
Jeonghan leapt up from bed with such speed.
"Thank you so much then I'll be leaving now" He shouted and blew them a kiss leaving his confused parents in his room.
He didn't know how long he ran. He hurriedly took a bus to Seungcheol's apartment. When he arrived, he noticed that everywhere looked almost empty. He met Woozi and Hoshi loading some boxes into a big vehicle waiting outside.
"Jeonghan!" Hoshi exclaimed.
"What are you doing here?" Woozi asked surprised.
"What's going on? "Jeonghan asked.
"He's selling the house. It said it held too many memories" Woozi responded.
"Do you know where he must have gone?"
"I don't know"
Jeonghan smiled to himself. He knew were Seungcheol was. He laughed heartily and ran off, also leaving them confused.
The park was empty when Jeonghan arrived but he spotted Seungcheol instantly sitting on the bench overlooking the lake . He couldn't wait any longer.
"Seungcheol!" He shouted. His ex stood up and turned around. His heart dropped when he saw him. Before he knew it, Jeonghan ran to him and hugged him.
"I missed you so much..."
Seungcheol stiffened "But you divorced me"
"I'm so stupid. I allowed my mother get into my head. You have no idea how much I regretted it. I almost went crazy"
Seungcheol held him closer
"I missed you too. I didn't want to divorce. I thought it's something you wanted"
Jeonghan shook her head. "No, it was torture being away from you"
"What happened? Did your parents give their consent? I hope you're not running away"
Jeonghan scoffed. "Of course not. Apparently, my parents value my happiness more than anything so they let me go to be with you"
Seungcheol finally relaxed and smiled broadly
Jeonghan hugged him tightly again. "I missed you" he said.
"Same here, you know what, why don't we start on a new scale"
"We should remarry?"
Seungcheol laughed "Let's take it easy this time. We will marry again later in the future but for now, let's just enjoy being with each other. When the time comes, we will plan a beautiful wedding that will involve family and friends"
Jeonghan smiled. "I'm fine with that"
They looked each other in the eyes knowing that they were starting afresh but not as enemies but as two people who genuinely loved each other.
"Kiss me Seungcheol. I've missed your kisses" Jeonghan's muttered.
"With pleasure" Seungcheol whispered back and they kissed.
