Chapter Five

"How about this?" I examined the dress Zara's holding. Hm, laces and ribbons? I shook my head. "I would never wear laces and ribbons. C'mon Z, you know that" I said. I saw her roll her eyes which caused me to chuckle.

"That's the fifteenth dress today. Don't you even like the others even for just one bit?" she asked while still looking for a dress. "Not really. In fact, I don't even like to wear one" At the same time, Zara pulled out a sky blue dress.

I examined it slowly. It was below the knee-length. It has these beautiful diamonds and jewels all over it. A ball gown. Before she can ask, I stood up and quickly got the dress. "It's beautiful" I mutter. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Zara smile. "Then we got the right dress for the party"

Oh, right. The reason why we're busy with dresses is because of a party. Well, it's Zara's friend's cousin's party. She just made me tag along. Being the 'best friend' I am, I gave in. She said there was a celebrity there so why not?

We went to the counter to pay for it. "How much is it?" The cashier typed something at her computer. "$60,000, miss" she answered. Shoot. That's too big. "We'll take it" My eyes widen and gave Zara a what-are-you-doing look. "Z, it's okay. I do-" she put her index finger at my lip. "Shh, I'll pay for it, okay?"

Well, I can't argue with her. For all I know, she's really stubborn. "Leggo" she said and pulled me outside the store. We already bought the dress, shoes, make up, everything we need. "Let's eat" I just nodded and followed her to a restaurant. Can't deny it, my best friend is indeed rich.

"Name?" the man at the counter asked. "Zara Tucker" she answered. The man wrote something before standing at the entrance. "Right this way, Miss Tucker" Right when we were about to enter, my phone rang.

"Uh-excuse me" I excused myself. I got my phone at my pocket and saw who was calling. And for some reason, a smile happened on my face.

"What now, Duckie?" I tease. There was long silence. But finally, he spoke. "Where are you?" Huh? Why is using his cold tone on me? I mentally rolled my eyes. "Uh-I'm with Z"

"Is it a boy?" Oh, right. He doesn't know her."A friend" I shortly repiled. "Just a friend?" I suddenly felt uneasy. Why is he asking me that? "Does that even matter?" "Yes" he said. Y-yes?

"Why?" I suddenly became curious. "Because.." then he paused. "Because what?" I gripped at my phone tightly. Why do I feel like it's too early to know the answer?  I heard him sigh. "I'll see you later, Raine" then he hung up, leaving me a confused mess.

He called me by my name. Not Mousie. This is not good. I stared at my phone for a few minutes and eventually, put it back to my pocket. Huh, guys and their mood swings. After talking with Andrew, I walked my way back to the restaurant.

At my way, a certain shop caught my attention. And the next thing I knew, I was already inside, examinig the store. It was small, yet it has a lot of things inside. And it all involves.. love. But there's one thing that really stand out inside the store.

In the middle, there was a jar full of paper hearts. It was simple yet so eye-catching."It's beautiful right?" I turned my look at the middle-aged woman beside me. I showed her my smile and nodded.

"That jar is precious to me. That's the only thing my husband left for me and my daughter when he died. I always write letters for him and put it at that jar. Every time I forget him, I read those letters all over again. I've been doing it for many years already. But don't worry, I already replaced them with blank paper hearts" she explained.

"Do you want it?" I looked at her wide-eyed. "Oh, no, no. It feels like I've stolen something valueable from someone I barely knew" I declined. She just gave me a smile. "I insist" she reached for the jar and put it at my hands. "Are you sure?" To be honest, I really want it. But still.. it's like stealing to me.

The lady nodded. "But please take care of it" she said. I slowly got the jar and gave her one last smile. "Thank you" I thanked her. "You're welcome, dear" I heard the shop lady said which caused me to smile. But before I exited the shop, I borrowed a pen and let my hand write something on one of the hearts.

You know what's weird? I'm starting to like you.

But you know what's more weird? I don't know who it is for.
