Chapter Fifteen

I'm sorry for the time skips.

I just don't get why do I have to write about Raine's everyday life. It's boring.

This is the longest chapter I've ever wrote, so please appreciate it.

Today's the day.

"Are you sure you're okay doing this?" Zara asked me the sixteenth time, while fixing my hair. I rolled my eyes at her. "Yes, Mom" I chuckled, and stared at the mirror in front of me. There, I saw my best friend doing her best for making me pretty.

I grinned at the sight, but was eventually replaced by a frown. Why does she always pass by my mind? "Z?" I called her, and thankfully, I caught her attention. "Do you think I'm beautiful?" I blurted out, surprising her and myself. "W-what?" she stuttered, wide-eyed.

"I asked, do you think I'm beautiful?" I sighed. There was brief silence, making me face the ground. I heard her clear her throat. "Of course, you are!" she exclaimed. "Why are you suddenly asking such a question?" I shrugged, still facing the ground. "I don't know" It's because of that stupid girl.

I heard her deeply sigh. "Raine, darling, what's wrong?" she asked. I slowly looked up to her. "Why is life unfair?" I murmur, my voice becoming more fragile by the moment. "Why is Andy more important to him?" And the next thing I knew, I was already crying my heart out, while Zara is hugging me tight. I'm just thankful that she didn't ask about Andy.

"Hush, don't cry. Your make-up will go to waste" she said, making me feel guilty. I sat up properly and wiped my tears. "I'm sorry, Zara" I apologized and faced the ground, guilt eating me up. Just when I thought that she will leave me here, I heard her chuckle.

"You're such a crybaby, but that's why I love you" and she hugged me. I hugged her back tightly. "You know you're the best, right?" I whispered at her ear. "Of course, I am!" she boasted and hugged me as tight as I did.

After a few more seconds, she let go with a wide smile on her face. "Enough with all this drama, we have to fix your make-up and get your dress ready before Ross arrives" she said as she started with my make-up.

Yes, Ross knows where I live. I suggested that he could just pick me up in my apartment so it will be more easy, and he agreed. I looked up at the clock, and knew that I still have two hours before the interview so there's still time. And I don't know why, but I feel like something bad's gonna happen. Maybe it's just gut feeling.

"Done!" Zara shouted, admiration in her eyes. I looked at her, then the mirror. I stared at the girl staring at me with awe. "See? I told you, you're beautiful" she said. "I-is th-this really m-me?" I stutter, still surprised. I looked up and saw her roll her eyes at me. "Lorraine Andrea Thompson, you really don't believe me?"

I chuckled and put my hands up in the air. "Okay, okay. I believe you" I smiled at her. She fist-pumped the air and showed me her smug smile. Just when she was about to speak, the doorbell rang. She wiggled her eyebrows and squealed. "Prince Charming has arrived!"

I stood up and smacked her arm lightly, but she just laughed. "Kidding. Your dress is at your room, so go hurry up!" she shouted and pushed me to the hallway, and to my room. "And no need to thank me. I'll be downstairs, call me when you need me" then she closed the door.

I shook my head and grinned a little. That girl is the awesome, I thought. As I turned around, my heart pounded hard and my mouth fell at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

Oh my Gosh. The dress is beautiful. "Thank you Zara!" I shouted happily, not sure if she will hear me. I walked towards the bed wait a wide smile. I carefully tangled the straps on my hands and put it up in the air. "It's perfect" I murmured.

I was still admiring the red dress, when I heard Zara about from downstairs. "Hurry up, slowpoke!" she shouted, loud enough for me to hear. "You're gonna be late!" And by that, I get on with business. I got the dress and.. you know what happened next.

After a few minutes, I was finally finished with the dress. I also found heels and a gold pouch to go with it. I smiled as I looked to the mirror. This is just simply breath-taking, I thought. Then my eyes landed on the clock. There's still one hour left, and I better not waste it.

I wasted no time as I went down the stairs. And I quickly got a view of Zara talking to Ross - who is as ever incredibly handsome. "Hey guys!" I said, successfully caught their attention. Zara smirked at me and Ross has his eyes widen, making me blush crimson red.

"Hi, Ross" I shyly greeted him. "You really are gorgeous" I heard him murmur, making me blush more. He cleared his throat when he realized what he just said. "Uh, I mean, hey" he scratched his nape, earning a laugh from Zara.

"Now shall we, Miss Thompson?" he asked as he walked towards me. I intertwine my arm with his with a smile. "Yes, we shall, Mr. Ellis" As we were about to go out, Zara shouted my name. "Lorraine!" she caught up to us, and she was holding Andre.

"You forgot your phone. You still have to call me after the interview" then she winked at me, as my pet barked.
I nodded and patted Andre's head. "Yes, I won't" I assured her. "And make sure you won't let my baby starve" I said lastly, and went to Ross who was already inside his car.

I opened his car door and went in. He looked at me for a brief moment with this emotion I can't get. He opened his mouth, but closed it afterwards. He sighed, started the engine and we left. No one was speaking, and I don't like it. I cleared my throat.

"What are you thinking?" I asked, breaking the silence. "Hm?" he hummed, taking short glances at me. I gave him a tiny smile and messed his hair up. "Hey, my hair!" he chuckled and fixed his hair back. "Uh, sorry" I apologized and laughed.

"So, your name is Lorraine?" he asked, making me face him. "Yeah, my name is Lorraine Andrea Thompson" I replied with a nod. "Why?" He shrugged. "You remind me of her" he smiled bitterly. "My first love" I can't help, but raise an eyebrow at him.

"Oh" that was all I can say, but many questions were lingering inside my mind. "Yeah, she's an angel" I looked up to him, and tears are rolling down his face. "She's my everything.." he paused. "But then, I know that she's just a daydream away"

I still have a confused face. "What?" he asked, taking short glances at me. "Why are you saying all of this to me? I'm just girl you just met" I can't help but ask. He looked at me for a brief moment, then at the road. "I don't know, maybe it's just that I've grown fond of you for a short period of time" And there was silence.

The whole ride was silent. I was staring outside in the window, looking at the people and the houses we pass by. Then a memory flashed in, as I closed my eyes. "I miss you, Mom"
