-24-
Heather woke up in Alejandro's arms. She snuggled into his chest. Alejandro woke up with a yawn. He saw Heather on him and smiled lovingly. "Buenos días, mi amor."
"Mmm, good morning," she hummed contently.
"You look perfect in that shirt," he said. Heather had put on Alejandro's shirt the night before for warmth.
"I'm sure you'd look fabulous in my shirt, too," she teased.
"Wanna bet?" He smirked.
"Oh my god," Heather rolled her eyes. "As if you're going to be able to put my shirt on."
"Hmm, where is it?" He reached his hand below the bed until he found a pink top.
"Alejandro!" She laughed. "No! You'll tear it!"
"I know my limits," he chuckled, lifting it over his head.
"No, you don't!" She tried to grab it out of his hands, but he only lifted it higher. She sat up and straddled him. "Alejandro Burromuerto, you are going to put that shirt down!"
"Or what?"
"Or...um..."
"You have nothing, chica. Now let's see how sexy I am in Heather Wilson's shirt."
"Alejandro! I swear to god, if you rip it, you're paying for it!"
"I know. It's only fair." He carefully slid it over himself. It stopped at his mid stomach and hugged his chest.
"Ugh, you are on a fine line!"
"But don't I look hot?"
"Only because I wore it first."
"Oh darling, you look ravishing in everything you wear. Or don't wear."
"Shut up, you perv!"
"Ouch," he frowned playfully. "All I wanted to do was compliment mi amor."
"And you're doing such a good job at it," she laughed, kissing his lips. She pulled out, just smiling at him. She couldn't believe she was with him, that he cared about her.
Suddenly, the door handle jiggled. "Mierda," Alejandro cursed under her breath. "I didn't know he'd be back this early." Heather's eyes widened, and she immediately hid under the covers. This could get out to Courtney, and I'm not ready to tell her yet!
Duncan walked in. "Dude, you would not believe what-" he froze when he saw Alejandro in a tight, pink tank top. "Uh..."
Alejandro swallowed nervously. "I... think I can explain."
He furrowed his eyebrows and saw black hair sticking out from under the covers. "Whatever, man. You don't need to. I know you have a girl over."
"Ha...yeah," he laughed awkwardly. "We were just playing around."
"I don't need to know anymore, dude. I'll head out if you need more time." He backed up towards the door.
"Yeah, thanks, bromigo. I will see you later." Alejandro smiled widely until the door shut. He then groaned, rubbing his forehead. "Dios, that was so embarrassing..."
Heather peeked her head from out of the covers, trying not to laugh, but a few giggles slipped out. "How were you even planning on explaining that to him?"
"I have no idea." He rolled on top of her, balancing himself with his arms. "I probably would have told him that I was wearing the love of my life's shirt."
"Well...I'm glad you didn't say that. I don't want anyone to know we're together yet."
"Why not?"
"Courtney," she cringed.
He raised both his eyebrows in realization. "...Oh, yes. There is that. I told her I wouldn't see her anymore before talking to you yesterday."
"So? What difference does that make? She really liked you. How do you think she'll react when she finds out you chose to stop going out with her for her best friend?"
"She'll get over it," he shrugged.
Heather scoffed. "Insensitive much?"
"What else am I supposed to say, chica? She has plenty of other guys that care about her lined up. And it's very hypocritical of you to call me out on my insensitivity," he smirked.
"Courtney's my best friend, so duh, I'm going to care about her feelings!"
"You make a good point. And because I care about you, I will be respectful to her."
"Thank you," she grinned.
"And anyone who you cannot stand, I will not stand."
"Ok, now you're entering simp territory."
"But it is true. I know I will not like anyone you don't like because we are birds of a feather." He ran his fingers through her hair.
"I love you," Heather whispered with a half-lidded gaze due to the sensation of him touching her hair.
"I love you too. So much, mi amor." He kissed the top of her head. "Are you busy tonight?"
"No, are you?"
"I will be going on my very first real date with my very first love. If that is what you desire, of course."
She slowly smiled, blushing. "Yes, I'd love to."
"I will drive my car by the sorority to pick you up at 6:30 sharp."
"That sounds amazing."
"It will be amazing. I already have the perfect place in mind."
"Ok then. Impress me, handsome," she smirked.
"You'll be more than impressed, gorgeous."
"Can I have my shirt back?"
"Your wish is my command." He carefully slid out of the tank top and handed it back to her. Heather was surprised it wasn't too stretched out. "And as for my shirt, it is all yours. You will have something to cuddle in whenever you're cold at night."
"Really, Alejandro? That's so dumb."
He pursed his lips. "Hmm, then I guess I'll take it back-"
"I never said I didn't want it. It's just...really really cheesy."
"Whatever you say," He chuckled. "You love it."
"Shut it!" Her face was bright red.
Alejandro leaned down and nuzzled her neck. "Heather, you're so soft. I know you love how romantic I am. I have practiced in the mirror for years."
She burst out laughing. "You flirted with yourself in the mirror?! That's so priceless!"
"Mock me all you like, querida. But you know it pays off. That blush on your face is proof."
"Why are you such a jerk?"
"If I am a jerk..., why are you into jerks?"
"Ugh! Shut up," she groaned.
"You brought this upon yourself, mi reina."
"What does that mean?"
"It means my queen. You are my queen." He kissed her.
She was back in a daze again. "Then you're mi... however you say king in Spanish."
"Mi rey," he purred, kissing her again.
"Mi rey," she beamed.
"Awe, you are almost too much for mi corazón to handle!"
Heather placed her hand on his chest. "I can tell. It's beating so fast."
"Sí, it is. Oh...I wish I could skip school to cuddle all day with you. But I have an exam in an hour."
"I have a stupid class in an hour too. But it's my only one for the day."
"Lucky!" He finally got out of bed. "I cannot wait to see you tonight.
"I can't wait either."
Whenever Heather went back to the sorority to fresh up for school, Heather made sure Alejandro's shirt was in a spot Courtney would never check- under her mattress. Being with him made her forget about all her problems, at least for that night and morning. But she knew she couldn't avoid them. She was still pregnant, Bruiser was still dead, and she still had to break the news to Courtney about her and Alejandro. She was thankful Courtney's class started earlier. Otherwise, she wouldn't have time to come up with an excuse for why she was gone all night. Plus, she had ten missed calls and six text messages from her. I'll deal with it after school.
**
The first thing Courtney did when she got out of class was check her phone. She rolled her eyes when she saw Heather hadn't answered any of her texts or calls. What is wrong with that woman?! Is she ok?
She was about to call her again when she saw Alejandro across the street. She remembered what he had told her yesterday. He doesn't want to go out with me anymore. Why? I kind of liked him. Courtney was trying to choose between him and Scott. They were both very handsome and charming men in her mind.
"Alejandro!" She called.
"Qué? Oh, hola, Courtney."
"Hi. Um...I wanted to discuss what you said to me yesterday."
"...Oh, sí, yes."
"Why don't you want to go out anymore? Oh no! Was it something I did?"
"No, absolutely not! I just...changed my mind," he smiled sheepishly.
"Well, there has to be a reason," she pouted, crossing her arms.
I should let Heather tell her herself. "I'm just...not ready for an actual committed relationship right now."
Courtney scoffed, offended. The other month he was practically begging me to get in bed with him! Now he doesn't even want to go out anymore?! "Fine then. I hope you know what you're missing out on, you jerk!"
"I'm sorry," Alejandro replied awkwardly.
"I really should've known after what happened with Bridgette, LeShawna, Katie, Sadie, AND Anne Maria!" She continued to rant. "I mean, how stupid could I have been?! I guess I'm just lonely and miss that stupid punk so much! Ugh, why did he have to go and cheat on me with that stupid goth liar?!?!"
"...Again, my apologies-"
"Oh, shut up, Al!"
His eye twitched. Guess I had that coming. "Well, if you ever want to have a more civil conversation, I will be available. As of now, I will be going."
"Yeah, go ahead and leave, asshole!" She grumbled, marching back to the sorority.
Alejandro sighed. Just when I thought my troubles were over. I hope she doesn't get too mad at Heather.
Courtney slammed the door. She saw that Heather had passed through earlier, for her jacket was hanging up in the closet. Oh, so she's ok, but she chose not to answer me. I'll just wait for her then.
After another hour, Heather finally showed up. Courtney was sitting in her bed making a list of things she needed to do next week when she heard the door open.
"Where the hell were you?!" Courtney snapped.
"Had to help my parents move some furniture out of the house and decided to stay the night," she lied smoothly.
"You helping and spending the night at your parents' house? Yeah, right."
"I don't know what else to tell you, Courtney. It's the truth."
She groaned. "Whatever. I'm so pissed off today, and you never answering me really put the cherry on top."
"What's making you so mad?" She hung her backpack up and sat in her bed.
"I'm just so sick of liars and fake people. First, it was Gwen and Duncan. Now it's Ale-jerkface."
Heather's eyes widened. "What happened with him?"
"He said he was done going out with me! Can you believe it?! I kid you not; just a few weeks ago, he was flirting with me like his life depended on it! Now he tells me he's not 'ready for a relationship'!" She mocked in a guy's voice.
She bit her lip. "Um..."
"I'm so glad I still have you, Heath. At least you don't go behind my back. That's why we're best friends."
Now Heather felt terrible. I didn't do anything that bad. I'm just trying to spare her feelings. I'll tell her when she's past all this, and she has an actual boyfriend. "Yeah," she nodded. "I'm sorry about Alejandro."
"It's ok. At least it wasn't what Duncan did to me," she flinched. His name still hurt to say. "At least when didn't spend over two years in a relationship with me then betray my trust. At least he got the lying part over with."
"Yeah, if you wanna look at it that way." I'm a terrible friend. But I really love him. I've never been so happy. "Hey, um...you still have that guy, Scott!" She tried to cheer her up.
"Like I'm going to waste my time on another damn guy," Courtney retorted.
"Well...what if he's the one? You never know."
"I don't know, Heather. It's kind of hard to believe in true love right now."
She frowned. "I'm sorry."
"Sorry? What for?"
"Just for what you're going through." If I tell her right now, it'll only make things worse.
"Oh...yeah," she whispered. "Thank you for being there for me, H."
"...Yeah, no problem." This is going to be so hard.
