Something that Makes Me a Little Perturbed
Please note: this is not something that was said to me directly, but I've seen it in plenty of places and I figured I would just clear the mud a little.
Liking makeup =/= not liking Transformers.
I've seen in on several people's works, rant books, etc. In plenty of fanfiction, the characters make a point of going "I hate makeup; it's stupid and all the girls who wear it look ridiculous. They're just prissy teens who sleep with everyone for attention."
And you know what? That is PERFECTLY fine, as it gives your character some personality. But, all too often I see it in just about every TF fanfiction (obviously if it's not in your story,it's not in your story, and I'm not referring to you) and it makes me wonder what all the hate is about.
And even in their rant books people will hate on the fact that girls wear makeup, and they have these awful stereotypes in their heads that make me cringe and wonder who hurt them.
Homegirl, look at my makeup drawer:
I have more eyeshadow palettes than I'll ever need, and that mess in the corner is all the red lipsticks (ranging from "I'm probably a whore" to "I'm a grown independent woman that will kick your ass") that I have collected over the years, because tbh I am a sucker for a good shade.
First off: yes, I love Taylor Swift. That in itself is a hardcore stereotype that I will own up to. But I also like a whole RANGE of music, save for (pure) country because it's utter trash (lol sorry). I listen to David Guetta, Disturbed, Simon Curtis, Kelly Clarkson, and even some Panic! At the Disco. Though my absolute favorite artist right now is Lana Del Rey.
Second off: I honestly don't wear makeup because I care about how I look; admittedly, that's a part of it, but it's so much FUN to paint my eyelids in all sorts of colors and go from wild one day to barely noticeable the next. It's an art, and I love it.
And thirdly: Y'all, I could probably give a detailed account of the history of Cybertron, the history of at least 50 Transformers characters, and I write and read fanfiction like it's the air I breathe. I frickin' love Transformers. I also enjoy older cartoons that have since been cancelled or rebooted, like Teen Titans, Ben 10, Star Wars. Transformers especially is not exclusive to males or tomboys or otherwise "non-fem" individuals.
So it really just makes me a bit mad, and kind of upsets me, when people hate on those who enjoy make-up and filling up their faces. Sure, if your OC doesn't like it, that's perfectly valid. I used to despise makeup until I turned 16, then I dappled with it and now I'm addicted (I'm also addicted to a lot of other things but that's beside the point). But if they have to make a point of hating on it every other paragraph, and reiterate the fact they aren't like those "popular, stuck-up rich brats who don't even know how to count to ten because they are too dumb for math," that just gets on my nerves.
Because I'm one of those make-up wearing girls. Maybe not the rest of it (idk I could be super obnoxious and stuck up for all I know), but it kinda hits a little too close to home.
And for those of you who have built up this stereotype in your heads that you truly believe now, stop it. Please. It's understandable if you've actually encountered these people in real life, because negative interactions stay with us for a long, long time, but don't let it become central to your judgement of a person's character. I have had a few people in the past who treat me rather snottily and expect me to not be the person I am, and though it is amusing to see them do a complete 180 when they realize their mistake, it also kind of hurts.
Again, the whole point of this rant is to say:
Liking makeup =/= not having a brain and not having the ability to enjoy stuff otherwise considered "non-makeup-loving-people-only"
