Chapter 3: Flight Emergency

*Charlie's POV*

I woke up to the plane shaking violently.

"Nick, Nick, Nick," I said in a panic, tapping Nick on the arm. Nick sleepily woke up and when he felt the plane shake, his eyes shot open and he sat up.

"We're gonna die, we're gonna die, we're gonna die," I whispered to myself, crying. Nick wrapped his arms around me tightly, using his hands to cover my head. I leaned my head against his chest and I held onto his hand firmly.

"We're gonna be okay, Charlie, I promise," Nick said, but I could hear his heart racing. Other people on the plane were freaking out, too--I heard a girl yell out, "Mom! If we die, I wanted you to know that I'm pregnant with Joey's baby!" and I couldn't help but lightly chuckle at that--and I kept sobbing into Nick's chest.

"We're having some unexpected turbulence, folks," the pilot said on the PA. "We're near a tornado, but not in it. The tornado's just trying to pull us in. We'll have it under control very soon, folks."

I shrieked with fear when I heard what the pilot said. Nick squeezed me even tighter and I squeezed his hands so hard my hands started to hurt.

"I love you, Nick," I whispered in his ear. "I love you so, so much and I can't even give words to how much I love you and you're an amazing husband and I don't wanna die and we're gonna die, and...Oh my God, I can't breathe! Nick, I can't breathe! I can't breathe!" I screamed when I couldn't get air into my lungs. Nick pulled away from me and I saw that the oxygen masks had come down. I frantically pulled the oxygen mask on and inhaled deeply to bring air in. Nick pulled his mask on, too, then pulled me back into a tight grasp. The plane abruptly lurched to the right, then up, then down, and I felt I was going to puke, and the plane then stop shaking and everything was normal again.

"Oh my God," I mumbled. "I was...gonna die...I'm alive...we're alive..."

"We're now back to normal, folks," the pilot said on the PA. "In about 15 minutes, we'll let you know if you can take your masks on. Sorry for all that trouble there, folks! Have a great rest of your flight."

"Nick," I said. "I think I'm gonna puke."

"Oh shit," Nick said, pressing the flight attendant button. "I'll ask a flight attendant." A flight attendant, the same one who talked to Nick earlier, walked up to us and Nick said, "My husband's about to puke. Can he take off his mask?"

"Take off the mask and puke into the bag, but I'm going to hold the mask directly near you so that when you take a break from puking, you can get some air, okay?" The flight attendant said. "If you don't feel it coming up, put your mask back on. When you feel it coming, take it off and puke." I nodded, held the bag to my mouth, and kept the mask on.

"It's coming, oh shit," I said, ripping off the mask and puking into the bag. I coughed, gasped in some air from the mask, then puked two more times. I wiped off my mouth with my sleeve and put the mask back on.

"Oh, sweetie," the flight attendant said sympathetically. "Let me go get you some ice water and ginger ale, okay? I'll make sure to get some napkins, too."

I nodded and the flight attendant walked away. I coughed and Nick hugged me tightly.

"I love you so goddamn much, Char," Nick said. "I'm so sorry this happened, this is such a crappy honeymoon so far, I know you're hating this and I'm so sorry..." He blinked and tears came pouring down. I wiped them away with my thumbs and said, "I'm not hating this. I get to be with my husband. That's good enough for me."

"You can all take your masks off now," the pilot said on the PA system. "We have oxygen in the plane now. Thanks for your patience!"

I ripped the mask off and kissed Nick as hard as I could, straight on the lips. Nick laughed and pulled away. The flight attendant brought me napkins, a bottle of water, and a can of ginger ale. I thanked him and sipped the water. I hoped nothing else bad happened on this flight. I just wanted to enjoy my honeymoon.
