Chapter 2: In Which They Try to Stay Calm
11:07
I peered at Jordan over my phone. He was chewing the inside of his cheek, his glasses at the very end of his nose as he stared down at his phone. He was cute, I'd give him that. His black hair was quiffed up a little, and I hate to admit it, but I've always been a sucker for a guy with a quiff. Even if said guy had terrible acne.
Suddenly, Jordan looked up, catching my gaze which had been directly trained on him. His eyes sparkled mischievously.
"Like what you see, Angelica?" he smirked. I scoffed and turned away, but my cheeks were burning.
"Please." I snorted, focusing my attention back on my phone, to the messages that still remained unsent. He grinned, putting his phone away and scooting closer to me.
"Don't deny yourself the truth Gels." The nickname caught my attention, and I snapped my gaze back to him. He wiggles his eyebrows at me, smiling.
"Gels?" I blurted, brushing my black locks out of my eyes. Jordan blinked.
"Yeah. Gels. AnGELica?"
"I mean yeah, I get it," I explained, "But only my friends call me Gels."
"Well then, guess we're friends." he remarked, smiling at me. I laughed and glanced at my watch.
"We basically only met a half hour ago Jordan. We aren't friends." Jordan reels back dramatically, hand over his chest.
"Oh, that hurts!" he joked. I smiled a little, before looking back at my phone. The words, Not Delivered, still blinked red on all of the messages. I was about to try and send them again when Jordan went and grabbed my phone. I immediately shot up.
"Jordan! Give me back my phone!" I screeched, reaching for my iPhone which he now dangled high above his head. Now, a fact about me, Angelica Skylar, is that I'm short. Like, 4'9 short. And Jordan? He's 5'7. A full head taller than me. So he laughed when I jumped in vain to reach my phone.
"You're so short Gels!" he teased. I jumped up again, reaching up and just brushing his palm with my fingers before stupid gravity forced me back down again. I pouted at Jordan as he just grinned at me.
"UGH, Jordan, why are you doing this?!" I groan. He was so absolutely infuriating. In the month I had somewhat been familiar with him, from what I could tell, Jordan was an immature ass. Which had confused me, because according to Lizzy, he had been a total sweetheart. But that was definitely not the case.
"Because," he explained, "We've gotta save battery. We don't wanna waste the battery on our only source of contact to the outside world do we? We could be in here for hours." Slowly, he lowered his arm and handed my phone back to me. I glared at him defiantly. He had a point unfortunately.
"So what are we supposed to do then? Just wait here, hoping that someone will notice that the elevator isn't working? From what I've seen, Jordan, people barely use the elevator." I pointed out. But he rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, well they're bound to notice that we're missing right?" I sighed and pushed my glasses back up the bridge of my nose.
"I guess..." I mumbled, looking down. He chuckled.
"I thought so."
I checked my phone. I was at 37%. Not exactly bad but, if I didn't watch it, it would go pretty quickly. I sighed and put it on lower power mode then slipping it back into my pocket. Jordan smirked at me as he put his own phone away.
"So..." I began, "What do we do now." I looked at him as he smiled wickedly. I was not liking that expression on his face.
"What to do..."he droned. "Well I have several ideas, but I don't think you'll like them." I raised an eyebrow at him.
"Well it's not like I exactly have any options right now. Like you said," I elaborated, "I'm stuck with you." He smiled crookedly.
"Never Have I Ever..." he began, and I started to nod but he continued, "And if you have done something, you strip." I gaped at him, shocked. I knew that he was an immature ass but honestly.
"Absolutely not!" I yell, horrified. Jordan just chuckles.
"Why not? Like you said, you don't exactly have any options right now, and you are stuck with me, right." he teased, cocking his head to one side. I just glare at him, infuriated by his very prescense and the fact that out of all people, it had to be him that I was stuck in this damn elevator with. He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively. "What do you say Gels? I'm sure you'd love to see me shirtless, and I wouldn't mind..." he reaches out and pulls at my baby blue sweater, "seeing what you have hidden under all your clo-"
I slapped him right then and there. Jordan looked shocked, hand pressed to his cheek as he just stared at me, gaping. I was shocked myself. While I have been known to have sometimes mildly violent behaviors, I had never ever slapped someone that hard on the face before. We stared at each other in silence for a while.
"Huh," he uttered, observing me from behind his thick rimmed glasses.
"You're a gutsy little ass aren't you."
"Excuse me, you're the one who suggested..."I shuddered, "Such...lewd things." He burst out laughing.
"Lewd?" he snorted. "What are you eighty?" He looked me up and down, examining me like a pastry on display. "Maybe you are, and that's why you dress like that."
"I will not hesitate to slap you again."I warned, glaring at him. Jordan laughed, infuriatingly. Oh, I hated him.
"I don't doubt it." he sang. "Oh, I'm going to enjoy this." He stared at me, eyes twinkling, and it was only then I noticed how close we were to one another. In the process of our arguement, the proximity between us had closed dramatically, and I was only a couple inches away from him. I shuddered and took a step back. Jordan noticed my reaction and smirked, opening his mouth to say something when the elevator groaned, dropping a few feet. I shrieked a little, and the both of us rushed to the side of the elevator, clinging to the railing. Fear raced through my veins, heart beating loudly in my ears as I felt the elevator drop even more. I looked at Jordan, who actually looked a little pale, gripping the railing tight. "Never have I ever been stuck in an elevator before today!" he shouted. The elevator screeched, dropping more dramatically this time before pausing.
"What?!!" I yelled back at him, struggling to stay upright.
"You heard me! The lady said we have to stay calm right? So answer the damn question!"
The elevator groaned in response, and I gulped. Jordan was right. We...had to stay calm.
"I...I actually have been stuck in an elevator before. For about a half hour when I was eight." And suddenly all was quiet. The elevator was dead silent and stopped moving. We stared at each other for a few minutes and I began to smile when all the lights in the elevator turned off, and we were in total darkness. "Jordan?!" I screeched, panic-stricken. "What happened?!"
"You think I know!" he yelled, definitely frustrated. I began to hyperventilate, the panic finally settling in as I slowly slid to the ground.
"We're going to die, we're going to die, we're going to die..." I muttered quietly, rocking back and forth. I heard shuffling from the other end of the elevator, until there was a presence right in front of me.
"Angelica?" I heard Jordan say hesitantly. For once, his voice was soft and gentle. I sniffled in response. The darkness, the fact that we were probably going to die was all too much for me.
Slowly, I felt Jordan slide down and sit next to me. "Hey," he says softly, "It's going to be ok." I just continued to rock slowly, clasping my hands tightly together. "Hey," he says firmly this time. I felt him slowly clasp his hand over mine, and I turn to him, tears streaming down my cheeks as I just made out the outline of his face in the darkness. "It's going to be ok." Slowly, I felt myself calm down, and I nod my head. Then I realize he can't see me and I squeak a quiet "Ok." I grip his hand tightly as we sat in darkness, and after a few minutes, there was a loud beep and a dull, red light came on.
I sigh relieved, and turn to Jordan, smiling a weak smile. He makes out a tiny smile himself and I look at him for a few seconds before I realize I'm still gripping his hand like my life depended on it. Shocked, I instantly pull away, widening the distance between us once more. Jordan is surprised for a moment, and a different emotion flickered on his face before it was replaced with his trademark smirk.
"Just can't control yourself around me can you Angelica." he joked, smiling at me with that infuriating grin of his. I snort, but this time I cannot deny the blush that spreads across my cheeks.
Hopefully, he couldn't see it under the red light.
But he did. And he laughed.

I tried to make it a little longer this time, and the picture is how I visualize Jordan.
Hope you like it!
