Five Six Seven Eight (What About One Two Three Four?)

And here we go for another round of randomness with Kallus and the Inquisitors. Big thanks to Elrabbit for commenting on the first chapter!

I don't own Star Wars, Disney, or any partnerships with them.
============================================
Lesson of the day: Inquisitors are not as creative in general as they are in battle. Joe and the Fifth Brother (who goes by Tesla) are the only ones that have a name. The other three are still trying to decide which name suits them best, so they're called by their number until they figure it out.
"You're lucky, Kallus," said Seven. "You got named early on. We were just given a number and a brother or sister title."
"Yeah but if I got the chance to name myself I don't think I would choose Rachquet," I responded. Seven shrugged and went back to racking her brain about names. So far she has Sev and Sven. "You do know Sven is a boy's name, right?" I said.
"It could be gender fluid!" She snapped. I backed off and decided to say nothing else about their choice of names to any of them. I mean, Six is trying to decide between X and Y (literally) and Eight has Cheeseburger and Potato.
Here's the other thing about Inquisitors: they argue a lot. I guess that's how normal siblings would be. Unfortunately, I had a brother I never got to know. He was sent to the Imperial Academy before I was born. I met him once or twice when he had some free time to visit the family but then he was shot and killed.
Joe is the head inquisitor so he has control over how much arguing is enough but I've never seen him call out his brothers or sister. Six and Eight argue and wrestle all the time, Tesla keeps getting tricked because of his disability to see, and Seven gets her hair pulled a lot.
I feel kind of left out. Six, Seven, Eight, Tesla and Joe all have this amazing relationship that feels awkward when I try to take part of it, despite his welcoming each of them are. I spend a lot of my time thinking about what the Empire might be up to now, preferably Thrawn and Pryce. And currently, I was doing just that while sitting on the couch.
"Rachquet!" My attention snapped to Six, Seven and Eight standing in front of me. "What's up?" Asked Eight.
"Clouds," I answered. "And shipping lines."
Eight laughed loudly and clapped Six's shoulder. "You owe me!" The two ran off.
I frowned. "What was that all about?"
"They had a bet on what you would answer when they asked you what's up," said Seven. "Those two are so weird." She sat down on the couch with me and stretched herself out, putting her feet on my lap. "Another nice day to laze around."
I'm not too keen about this position she's in but I don't say anything. Instead I ask about her brothers or sisters, One, Two, Three and Four. "What happened to them?"
"They died." I waited for a moment, expecting her to go on. When she didn't I decided to try and prompt her.
"And...Nine?"
"Technically you could be Nine."
"What about Joe?"
"He's One. I thought he told you that."
I shook my head. Seven sat up and shifted so she was half on and off the couch in a lounging position. At least her feet are off me. "Can you tell me more about what happened to Two, Three and Four?" I asked.
"Sure. Two was decapitated, Three exploded, and Four was shot." She said it so casually it was like she didn't care about them. "I see what you're thinking. Yeah, they were idiots. Two couldn't recite the ABC's, Three exploded himself with his lightsaber, and Four had the brilliant idea of running into the crossfire of a battle."
"I wouldn't mind if you stayed out of my head," I said coldly and left her to go see what the others were up to.
I passed Tesla, who was laying on the floor in the living room. He's teaching himself how to read. Wait...he can't read. Why is he looking at a 'Learn to Read' book? Maybe he just likes to pretend to.
Joe is playing ping pong with Six and Eight. So far, he's beating them both. Six and Eight are blaming each other for they're 21-2 loss.
"Kallus!" Six waved me over. "Do you know how to play ping pong?"
"No," I said. Immediately Six explained the rules and threw a paddle into my hand. He told me how to serve the little ball.
He went to the other side of the table and served a ball so fast my fighting reactions kicked in and I dodged it. It whacked Seven (who appeared out of nowhere like a good inquisitor does) in the forehead.
Seven grabbed the ball and lobbed it at Six. "For Snoke's sake, be gentle on him! Rachquet hasn't played before!"
"What? As gentle as I am with you?" Six laughed. Seven Force threw him and took a paddle for herself. She bounced the ball gently to me. I whacked it back with so much power it ricocheted off the wall and hit Seven in the back of the head. Six shrieked with laughter. Somehow he managed to get a bag of popcorn in that time.
Seven didn't give up. She kept trying to teach me. Eventually we managed to get a small volley going but it ended when I overshot the ball and it missed the table. "You're a quick learner, Rachquet," said Seven. "I don't know what's wrong with the Empire. You're useful."
"The Empire only cares about how much success any trooper, officer or agent has, not their skills," I said bluntly. I put the paddle down and go outside. Joe is...watering a garden. It's so strange to see the inquisitors like this when I was used to them acting like supreme beings.
Joe looked up at me. "Hello, Rachquet! Such a nice day to be outside isn't it?"
"Yes... it is..." It was actually the perfect day. The sky was crystal blue with a little white blotch of cloud now and then. A lazy breeze played with the grass and the flowers Joe was watering. The sun was perfectly warm as it dipped past the midway point and headed for the west.
I looked back at Joe. He was on his hands and knees pulling some weeds. "How did you and Tesla come up with your names?"
He sat back on his feet and thought for a moment. "Well Tesla came from an inventor on the planet of Earth. Tesla, the inquisitor, was always fascinated with that planet. As for me, well Tesla kind of helped me with my name. He said I could call myself Grand Inquisitor Joe - G.I. Joe for short. It really fits."
"It must be great to be able to choose your own name." I wondered what I would call myself if I was in that situation. Joe continued working in his garden and I left him alone.
Tesla made dinner (don't ask me how because I don't know) out of leftovers from take out foods. I looked into the Inquisitor's fridge and found only takeout leftovers. "Why do you have so many leftover takeout foods?"
"No one knows how to cook and no one cares!" Said Tesla. "We let someone else make the food and then we just reheat it."
"So no one knows how to cook?"
"You should clean your ears. I said yes. Do you know how to cook? You could make us a fine meal!"
"How are you paying for all this take out food?"
"Onesie and Seven and I have a bunch of money from our time in the Empire," Tesla explained. "Eight and Six both saved up extra money. And Onesie has a side job to continue supporting us. What about you? Do you have any credits?"
I froze. I reached into my pocket and pulled out ten credits. Great. How could I have been so stupid to carry around ten credits? Usually I have fifty. Unless...
My memory flashed through the past few hours. I remember feeling something odd on my right side and turned to see a cadet had brushed against me. He apologized and ran off. But then I realized that wasn't any cadet. That was Ezra Bridger!! I probably deserved to be fired for that.
We had a nice dinner. Joe did most of the talking to his siblings. He also kept Six and Eight from fighting each other. Tesla sat next to me on my left and Seven was on my right. Both were trying to get my attention on them. I didn't really hear either of them.
The truth is, it's only been about nine hours since I left the Empire and I'm still terrified by the fact that they might find me. I had disabled every tracker I know about on me and destroyed them. I couldn't let the Empire find the Inquisitor's little homestead. Was this really the best idea for me to stay here?
After dinner I helped clean up with Joe. "You seemed quiet tonight," said Joe. "The last time I was with you, you had quite a bit to say if you were asked to say anything."
"I've just been thinking a lot," I responded as I washed the dishes.
"Care to share?"
"I'm just afraid that the Empire will somehow track me down and destroy your place then take me away and recondition me or kill me."
Joe paused for a moment. "You know, since you're here, you're basically family to us. And one rule of thumb for us inquisitors is that family stands up for each other. Even if we fight a lot."
"I'm family?" I couldn't believe what I just heard. Did the inquisitors really think of me as family?
Joe smiled. "Yeah. But only if your promise something in return. You have to look out for us."
"I promise!" I said almost too quickly.
A large smile appeared on Joe's face. "Welcome to the family, Rachquet Kallus."
