Ch. 98 - Wow, Didn't See That Coming
< Chapter 98: Wow, Didn’t See That Coming >
♥ Justin’s POV: ♥
I always knew that the saying time flies when you’re having fun was created for a reason—because it’s true. The baby shower turned out to be fun and amazing, despite the little situation we had with Selena. Thank god for Megans in the world. But the rest was fun, so I guess it’s okay, for now. We chatted with people and played lots of fun games and time really did fly away without any of us noticing.
As the party began to end, Jamie told me she was really tired and I was very understanding, knowing she was almost close to her due date so she might be tired a bit more frequently. So when people started leaving, Jamie said her goodbyes to everyone while they wished the two of us luck with Lil J, and just like that she kissed me right on the mouth and went to bed.
“You sure you don’t want any help with that?” I heard a voice ask from behind me as I dragged a trash bag across, cleaning up each table by throwing left overs into the bag. I turned around to see Ryan standing by the doorframe that led from the house to the backyard, Allison close behind him.
I lowered my gaze and stared at the grass, shaking my head slowly. “Nah, I’m good. Thanks anyway, but you should probably go get some rest,” I shrugged it off.
“You get some rest too, alright? You could always finish cleaning up tomorrow and by then, you could give me a call and I’ll help,” he offered.
“Thanks, I’ll think about it,” I smiled at him, and he gave me a thumbs up before taking Allison’s hand in his and leading her towards the living room and out of the house. I resumed my job at picking up trash and managed to clean out all of the tables. After deciding to clear up the backyard from all the tables, chairs, equipments and extra decoration later tomorrow, I began to walk back inside the house when I noticed someone else standing at the doorframe.
“Just wanted to say goodbye again,” Megan giggled, crossing her arms teasingly.
“You better come back, do you hear me, missy?” I laughed, pointing an accusing finger at her.
“I will sometime,” she nodded, “I was planning to move back into town. I miss this place.”
“Yeah, this town has always given me the feeling where I know I’m home and that this is where I belong,” I agreed. “I go off to perform for my fans around the world but nothing feels better than to come back here, the place I grew up in.”
“Oh I definitely know the feeling,” she sighed, running a hand through her hair. It was silent for a moment as we took in the cool, night breeze.
“Hey,” I whispered, causing her to look up at me. “I’ve said it a billion times, but thank you.”
“For the Selena thing?”
“Yeah..” I bit my lip. “I honestly don’t even know why I dated her in the first place. I thought I knew her well but she’s such a bitch.”
Megan laughed, shaking her head. “Definitely a bitch. And don’t you worry, if she ever threatens you or even comes near you guys again, I am more than happy to put her in her place again.”
“That makes me feel so much better, thanks,” I smirked, embracing her into a hug and feeling her arms wrap around me to hug me back.
“You’re welcome,” she slightly pulled away and gave me a warm smile, our noses hovering as I felt my body tense at how close we really were to each other. I cleared my throat, awkwardly pulling away and scratching the back of my head.
“Good night,” I whispered, catching her blush even at how dark it was outside.
“‘Night,” she murmured, though not moving an inch. The air danced around us, embracing our bodies as silence took over once again, making me feel uncomfortable. Megan’s eyes were locked on mine and, in the swift of a moment, the unexpected happened. Megan cupped both my cheeks and crashed her lips into mine, giving me a sloppy kiss. My eyes widened and I grabbed her by the waist, gently pushing her off of me. I wiped vigorously at my lips and looked back at her, flabbergasted.
Wow… Didn’t see that one coming.
“Oh my god,” Megan shrieked in shock, staring at me in horror, her eyes wide in regret. “Justin… I’m so, so sorry. I didn’t mean to—”
“Justin?” a new voice interrupted and Megan turned around to face the person, giving me perfect view of him/her as she moved out of the way.
“Jade?” I coughed, locking eyes with Jamie’s mother. My heart dropped as a million thoughts ran through my head. Did she just see us kiss?
“Are you okay?” concern flashed in her eyes. “You look shaken up.”
I guess I’ll take that as a no.
“I’m just tired,” I gulped, glancing at Megan quickly.
“Oh, well I was just about to tell you that Danny and I are going to sleep so we’ll see you in the morning.”
“Okay, I should get some sleep too,” I said, rather quietly.
“You should,” she gave me one last smile before looking at Megan. “Goodnight, Meg. It was nice seeing you again.”
“Sleep tight, Mrs. Hughes,” Megan forced a smile back before Jade disappeared into the house. I ran a hand through my hair and began walking forwards as if to follow behind her. I stopped by where Megan stood and looked her straight in the eyes.
“You should go,” I whispered. Hurt flashed in her eyes as she nodded slowly.
“Okay,” she said softly, and I led her inside, past the living room and to the front door, opening it wide enough for her to walk through. Before exiting, Megan looked back at me hesitantly. “Justin—”
“Please,” my voice was shaking, “Just go.”
She closed her mouth and sighed, leaving the house before I shut the door behind her. I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding in and fled upstairs, sneaking into Jamie’s room before stripping out of my clothes until I was only in my boxers.
Gently climbing onto the bed, I laid down beside Jamie, who was fast asleep by now, and slipped under the covers, wrapping my arms around her from behind. I cuddled her to my chest and kissed the top of her head before resting my chin on it.
But I couldn’t stop thinking about Megan. Why did she kiss me? Did I do something to make her think I was interested? How, if the entire time I was making it clear that Jamie is the love of my life? She seemed fine throughout the entire party right up until just a few minutes ago.
This is going to be a long night.
----
When I opened my eyes, I felt someone’s hand caressing my hair to the side lovingly. Even though my vision was slightly blurry at the moment, I knew exactly who it was.
“Babe,” I chuckled, blinking repeatedly until my vision settled perfectly on her beautiful face.
“Babe,” she mimicked me, her hand lowering to the side of my neck before she leaned forward and gave my nose a kiss. “Good morning, doofus.”
“Good morning,” I smiled, gently caressing her pregnant belly, which should pop out a baby soon. I pressed my lips against hers and a sudden guilt rushed through my stomach, causing me to pull away quickly. Jamie pouted as she tilted her head in confusion.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, her voice laced in concern as she blinked innocently at me. My heart skipped a beat and I looked away. I know it was Megan who kissed me, not the other way around, but I still feel so guilty, as if I’m cheating on her.
“Nothing,” I whispered.
She scooted closer to me, wrapping her hands around my neck. “You’re a terrible liar,” she murmured against my ear and I let out a soft laugh.
“It’s nothing, I just… I had another bad dream and spaced out for a second but… I’m better now,” I lied, inwardly beating myself up with a giant stick for making things worse. Not only am I lying to her, I’m also keeping a huge thing from her—something she’d want to know, at least. But how am I to tell her that Megan kissed me? I know I pulled away quickly but… Shit.
“I’m never leaving you, alright? Don’t let any stupid nightmare tell you otherwise,” she said strictly, cupping my cheek with her right hand.
“I know, baby,” I sighed, forcing myself to kiss her before pulling away and rolling out of bed. “You hungry?” I asked, putting on a pair of sweatpants.
“That’s not even a valid question anymore, Justin,” she giggled. I rolled my eyes goofily before smacking my forehead.
“I should’ve known,” I teased, winking at her before grabbing my phone and leaving the room rather rapidly. I walked past the hallway and all the way downstairs until I reached the living room, tapping a number I haven’t used on my phone for a while now.
To: Megan
Message:
We need to talk.
I gulped, staring at the message for what felt like an eternity before finally pressing ‘send.’
“Oh good, you’re awake! Jamie too, right?” I looked up to see Jade rushing to the dining room with plates on her hand.
“Yeah, she’s awake,” I said, “You need help with that?” She placed the two plates on the table and turned to me.
“That would be lovely,” she said, in the most terrible British accent in the history of what the actual fuck was that. I scrunched up my nose in disgust and slowly shook my head.
“Please… Don’t ever do that again,” I begged, looking straight into her eyes before she burst out laughing.
“You could at least pretend it was good!” she pouted.
“Ha, sorry but you’d have to be better than the best actor on Earth in order to make that happen,” I shook my head.
“Gee, thanks Justin,” she rolled her eyes, smacking my arms playfully.
“Oh, and did I forget to mention that I love you?” I laughed, tailing behind her to help bring plates out.
“Don’t you even speak, Bieber,” she pretended to be angry at me and I bit my lip, stifling the laugh that threatened to escape my lips. Just as I set the plates down, my phone vibrated in my pocket and I grabbed it quickly, pulling it out and reading the message.
From: Megan
Message:
Ok, are we going to meet somewhere or should I come to Jamie’s?
I curled my toes as my heartbeat picked up, biting my lip harder, though this time it wasn’t at all because I wanted to laugh.

♥ Megan’s POV: ♥
I sat at my friend Mabel’s house, sprawled out across the couch as I stared at the text Justin had sent me this morning.
We need to talk.
He left me four words and a punctuation mark, working together to form one simple, four syllabled sentence that got straight to the point, getting his intentions across. I obviously knew why he wanted to talk, so I just decided to agree and replied asking if I should meet him at Jamie’s or not, in case he was planning on meeting somewhere else.
Like I said before, he sent me this text just this morning and now it’s about four o’clock in the afternoon and still no reply. Now he’s either a terrible texter—the kind that takes a million years to text you back—or he doesn’t know how to handle this.
God, I feel terrible. I had no right to kiss him like that and I’m glad he just pulled me away and told me to leave, no matter how much the words hurt. I have to explain myself to him, I just can’t walk around knowing that he hates me. Trust me, that’s the last thing I need. It’s not like I like him that way. I mean, he’s hot but more than 40 million girls in the world think so too. But I wouldn’t go for him like that. I don’t have feelings for him, I always thought of him as a close friend I lost contact with. That is, until yesterday.
Maybe I just missed him. But GOD it didn’t mean I had to KISS him.
I began murmuring a billion curse words under my breath and the sound of beeping made me stop in my tracks. Diving for my phone, I quickly looked at the new message I had just received, replying to it quickly and we broke out into a short conversation.
Justin: Can you make it to Jamie’s pretty quickly?
Me: Yeah, I guess. I’m about 15 minutes away.
Justin: Are you doing anything?
Me: Not really, no.
Justin: Come over?
Me: Alright, be there in 15.
Justin: Ok.
I grabbed my purse, turning off the T.V before rushing over towards the bathroom, where the door was closed, the sound of the shower running filling my ears.
“Mabel?” I called out, knocking the door a few times.
“Yeah?” she shouted over the sound of the water pouring down.
“I’m going out for a bit but I’ll be back and bring you dinner, okay?”
“Are you taking long?”
“I don’t know, but I’m serious about bringing food,” I laughed.
“Deal!” she yelled and I shook my head, continuing to laugh to myself before rushing out of the house and to my car.
I drove fast, though careful enough not to cause an accident. I got there a little quicker than I thought and felt the butterflies rush through my stomach before I stepped back, waiting for someone to answer it.
Soon enough, the door opened up to reveal Justin, who stared at me blankly, his expression unreadable. My breath hitched and I felt my lips tremble slightly before forcing words out of my mouth. “May I come in?” I asked shyly.
“Yeah,” his voice was hoarse and shaky, making my heart tumble down to my stomach. I reluctantly stepped inside the house, noticing the fact that there seemed to be no one else here but us.
“Isn’t Jamie here?” I questioned curiously as he closed the door.
“In the shower,” he muttered. Wow, just like Mabel.
“And her parents?”
“Upstairs.”
“Oh.” Silence engulfed us as Justin sat down on the couch, eyeing me as if to tell me to do the same. I obeyed quietly, plopping down on the love seat across from him. Justin rolled his sleeves up and leaned forward, propping his elbows on his thighs and crossing his hands in front of him.
“Megan,” he began in a hushed voice. I kept my gaze on his. “Why did you kiss me?”
I bit my lip. “I’m sorry,” I sighed.
“Megan,” he repeated, “I know you’re sorry. But I want to know why you did it.”
Once he said those words, I knew he wanted to go straight to the point. And at first, I didn’t really know how to answer that. But as I continued to look into his eyes, I realized I really do know the answer to his question and I can’t believe I hadn’t realized it before.
“Honestly?” I asked, not giving him a chance to say something before I continued. “Five days before Phoebe called me, inviting me to the baby shower, my boyfriend broke up with me,” I confessed, shifting uncomfortably in my seat. Justin’s lips remained in a thin line, though his eyes told me to go on. “I was devastated, and when I got invited to the baby shower, I told myself to forget all about him and just focus on the fact that I’ll be seeing old friends, so I should be happy, you know?” I paused, giving myself time to just think before coming out with it. “I guess I missed you a lot, and I also missed my ex-boyfriend and I was just a stupid little bitch and kissed you. That’s basically what happened.”
Justin ran a hand through his hair, leaning back on the couch before looking back at me. “You’re not a stupid bitch,” he said softly. “And I don’t want you to think I’m mad at you because I’m actually, really not.”
I watched him in interest. “You’re not?”
“No,” he shook his head. “You’re a great friend and you still kicked some ass yesterday so that’s kinda impossible.”
We both laughed at his comment before I asked what I wanted to know since I got here, hope tinting in my eyes. “So you forgive me?”
He nodded slightly, forming a small smile at the corner of his lips. “I forgive you.”
“Thank you,” I let out a smile bigger than his before frowning again. “Wait, have you told Jamie?”
He froze, sadness glistening in his eyes. “No…” he whispered. “I’ve been lying to her all day,” his voice cracked.
“I’m so sorry,” the guilt was eating me alive. “I can tell her.”
“No, you don’t have to,” he countered. “Not if you don’t want to.”
“You can’t keep lying to her,” I murmured.
“But—”
“–Megan?” Jamie’s voice rang in both Justin and I’s ears as she entered the living room, her face surprised to see me. “Hi, oh my god I didn’t know you were coming!”
“Hey Jamie,” I forced a smile, standing to hug her. She hugged me back before pulling away and looking into my eyes.
“What brings you here?” she smiled, “You should’ve called me, I would’ve gotten us snacks or something.”
“Nah, that’s ok. Justin and I just needed to talk about something,” I shrugged casually. Jamie’s face twisted in curiosity as she stared at me.
“Talk? About what?” she asked.
“Megan…” Justin began, his eyes piercing into mine.
“No, I have to tell her,” I flickered my gaze over to him, my voice strict, showing him I wasn’t backing down.
“I’m getting scared here,” Jamie’s voice caused me to look back at her, feeling more nervous than ever.
“Jamie, I have something I need to tell you,” I bit my lip, fumbling with my fingers.
“Just tell me,” she said, suspicion covering her voice.
“Don’t be mad at Justin because it wasn’t his fault. He didn’t have anything to do with it,” I warned, “But… I kissed him. I kissed Justin.”

Didn’t see that coming, did ya?
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
So if you follow me on Twitter or have checked my tweets lately, I recently announced that IGHP is coming to an end soon. Unfortunately, it’s true. And I know it breaks your hearts but, believe it or not, it breaks mine too. As weird as it sounds, this book is my baby and I remember posting the prologue, unaware of how big it would become one day. I honestly NEVER thought this book would make it as far as it has but never say never right?
I don’t know if I’m doing a sequel, and I’ve said I didn’t plan on making one for this book, but like I said on Twitter, I’m announcing whether or not that’ll happen next month. August 9, 2012 was when I first posted IGHP so it’ll be the one year anniversary soon (wow! that was fast.)
I might say more any time so make sure to check up on my Twitter: @UndercoverGirly
Alright I’ll stop ranting about this and ask one question: Did you really see that coming?
Lol and how do you think Jamie would react? O.o
Hmm what’d you think of Megan now?
I LOVE YOU GUYS! Thanks for a great year of IGHP and the book isn’t over yet, I’m just doing a heads up :)
