Ch. 64 - Worried

< Chapter 64: Worried >

♥ Ryan’s POV: ♥

“Here,” I said, handing Justin a bowl of cereal. I told him I was going to make us breakfast except me and cooking doesn’t exactly mix so I decided to stick with something simple. Besides, we were still the only ones awake and I wanted to take his mind off of all the crying he had done.

Earlier on, I asked myself why the news about some stranger to us affected Justin so much, but it was a dumb question I already knew the answer to. I know I already knew this, but I think it deeply impacted him just because he’s in the position where his girlfriend— and best friend, may I add— is pregnant and, well… just yesterday he had to go to the hospital because she fainted, so that must’ve been the main reason it affected him the way it did. Even though he’s just overly worried, I still feel bad for him. I honestly think that if I was in his position, I’d be feeling the same way.

“Smells delicious,” he said sarcastically, seeing as it was just plain cereal.

“Would you rather eat that or let me burn the kitchen down?” I pointed out, sitting across from him.

“In that case, it looks really good. Thanks,” he chuckled, wiping his eyes and sniffing.

Oh great, he’s still a little down. What can I do to cheer him up?

“Are you okay?” I whispered, gathering a spoonful of cereal and feeling a disinterest with food when my best friend looks so sad.

“Yeah, of course. Why?” he forced a smile, and I narrowed my eyes at him. “Really, I’m fine now. I guess I just got a little emotional back there,” he added.

“Are you sure?” I asked. I believe him if he says he’s better now after crying earlier, but I know there’s something else bothering him. Not the news report or anything miscarriage related. No. It was something else. I just don’t know what.

“Yes!” he snapped.

“Alright,” I murmured, eating quietly without another word. I watched him carefully as he ate slowly, probably deep in thought about something. The silence was starting to make me feel uncomfortable so I began thinking of other things to talk about, but before I could open my mouth, a new voice entered the kitchen.

“Good morning guys,” Jamie greeted us, just woken up from her sleep and rubbing her eyes.

Justin’s head shot up as soon as he heard her voice and his face brightened, causing a real smile to form on his face for the first time today.

“Hey babe. Did you sleep well?” he said, his voice sounding ten times more happier.

“Of course I did! How did you two sleep?” she smiled, skipping over to the kitchen cupboard.

“I slept pretty well, just happened to wake up a little early,” I replied.

Justin didn’t answer.

“That’s nice,” she commented, joining us on the table with her own bowl of cereal. Before she began eating, she reached over towards Justin and kissed him softly.

“Ugh, save that for later,” I joked, winking at them.

“Oh shut up, Butsy,” Jamie rolled her eyes.

“Will you guys stop calling me Butsy?” I complained.

“Nope,” they both answered in unison.

♥ Justin’s POV: ♥

After breakfast, Jamie claimed she was going to take a quick shower and Ryan disappeared somewhere around the house. I sat by myself in one of the living room couches and felt my phone vibrating in my pocket.

1 new message.

I gulped and opened up the text, already knowing who it’s from.

From: Selena

Message:

Hey Justin! You remember what we talked about, right? I just wanted to make sure you make a wise decision. One that protects Jamie. One that’s good for her and good for you too. Think of the fans, but most importantly… Think of her safety.

I stared at the screen for what felt like hours. This is the very reason I actually barely got any sleep last night. I was too busy having a billion thoughts about what Selena had told me back at the cafe. She had some good points there, but I just didn’t know what to do. It would kill me to leave Jamie. But if that’s what protects her— while keeping my fans happy— then I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make that happiness happen. Whether we’re together or not… I don’t know. But these many thoughts kept haunting me. I still feel tired from the lack of sleep last night.

But reading the text she just sent me now… I can’t stop thinking about those four words. To make a decision… “One that protects Jamie.”

One that protects Jamie. One that protects Jamie. Think of her safety. Think of her safety.

Think of her safety? I do that everyday, but I never realized how much I really had to think about that. This baby is going to be a lot for my fans to take in, and it’ll stir up some trouble too. Beliebers are going to go nuts and, who knows, maybe they’ll accidentally harm someone in the process? My fans are pretty crazy like that, but I still love them.

Or like Selena said, some of them would leave me. My biggest fear is for them to leave me. I never, ever want that to happen. They’re like my second family, they can’t just give up on me, can they? They love me, and I love them back. We have a special bond… Will this baby throw all that away? Maybe they’d feel like I’m paying way too much attention to Jamie and the baby and they’ll just leave me. Just like that. Just leave.

Would they do that?

Maybe I already am paying too much attention to Jamie and the baby. Have I? I’m still doing concerts and meet and greets later on. I haven’t forgotten about them. But how do they feel?

I’m so stuck. This is all so confusing. It’s bugging the fuck out of me, and is probably even the cause of the headache I can feel coming.

“Hey doofus,” I heard an angelic voice interrupt my thoughts. I looked over to my right and saw Jamie smiling at me, dressed all casually.

“Hi, you look like you’re going somewhere?” I said, coming out more as a question.

“Oh. Well, Phoebe’s at Noah’s house right now and they’re going to go visit her grandma today so she asked me to go help her make some cookies and brownies and stuff like that and I thought ‘why not’?” she explained, grabbing her keys.

“You’re going out by yourself?” I asked, standing up.

“It’s not like it’s late at night when it’s dangerous outside. It’s just basically morning right now and, besides, I’m taking the car,” she said, sliding her purse to rest on her shoulder.

“T-The car?” I stuttered.

“Yeah… What’s wrong with that?” she shrugged. Suddenly, in that very moment, I remembered the news report from earlier.

A woman was driving to visit her sister with her husband when a drunk driver crashed cars with them.

A drunk driver crashed cars with them.

The damage was so great that it caused her a miscarriage.

A drunk driver crashed cars with them.

“I don’t approve,” I stated firmly after a while.

“W-What?”

“I don’t want you going outside,” I clarified, staring deep into her eyes.

“You don’t want me going outside? Why not?” she asked, crossing her arms.

“Just stay here,” I said.

“Justin, I can’t just stay. I promised Phoebe I’d help her. Are you being overprotective right now? ‘Cause if that’s the case, you can drive me if you want to.”

“I don’t want to drive you. I don’t want you in a car.”

“So you just expect me to walk all the way to Noah’s house? He doesn’t live in this neighborhood, you know!”

“I don’t expect you to walk, you can just stay here,” I suggested.

“Or I can just go. You’re wasting my time,” she said impatiently.

“I said no, Jamie,” I reminded her.

“Oh and just because you said no, I shouldn’t go? You’re not the fucking boss of me,” she said angrily.

“Jamie, I’m not saying I’m the boss of you, I just don’t approve of you leaving alone like that.”

“Well you’re not my father and you don’t control my life. And anyway, I’ve gone out by myself plenty of times, thank you very much,” she raised her voice.

“But you’re pregnant now…” I pointed out.

She looked taken aback for a second. “And that suddenly makes me disabled? I can’t go anywhere or do things by myself anymore because I’m pregnant?”

“No, I ju-“

“-And just because you’re the baby daddy, it means you can control what I do every second of the day?” she growled.

“Jamie-“

“-Just stop, Justin. Stop,” she interrupted, raising her hand up at me to prevent me from talking. “I’m going over to Noah’s whether you like it or not. I don’t need your useless approval.”

Useless?

“I’m going over there and I’m coming back whenever I want. I don’t need you telling me what time I should come home either,” she added.

Useless? Did she say useless? Maybe Selena was right.

We need a break.

♥ Ryan’s POV: ♥

“Okay bye, I’ll call you later,” I smiled, holding my phone close to my ear.

“Bye Ryan,” I heard Allison’s soft voice speak before she hung up. My smile widened as I slid my phone back into my pocket and opened the door of the guest room to head back downstairs. I was planning to tell Justin and Jamie about me finally being in a relationship with Allison today and I was excited to see their reactions.

I made my way into the living room and walked in just in time to see Justin grab a cup and throw it violently towards the wall.

“Fuck,” he muttered, as the cup bounced off all over the place, causing an incredibly loud noise to circulate the entire house. Good thing the cup wasn’t a glass one.

And maybe it’s not such a good idea to tell him my news just yet…

“Justin?” I called out. He immediately turned around to look at me and I instantly noticed how red his face was. He was probably crying again. “Whathappened?” I asked with concern clear in my voice.

“I screwed up… Again…” he murmured.

“What? How’d you screw up? Where’s Jamie?” I questioned.

“Gone,” he simply answered.

“Where?”

“Out.”

“Did you guys have another argument?”

“Yes.”

“What? Why? You two love each other way too much to be having these many arguments in a week! Need I remind you that you two are going to raise a baby soon?!” I pointed out.

“I don’t know. I guess my fucked up mind and her pregnancy hormones are clashing with each other and making us have arguments,” he explained.

“What do you mean your fucked up mind?” I asked in confusion.

He didn’t answer me.

“What did you guys argue about?” I changed my question into one he might answer.

“She was going out to visit Phoebe at Noah’s house and she was planning to drive there so… I guess I was just thinking of the woman in the news earlier, how she got into a car accident and… and had a miscarriage,” his voice cracked, “I didn’t want that to happen to her.”

“If you were so worried, bro, why didn’t you just drive her yourself?”

“The woman on the news got into the accident while she was in the car with her husband… Me being there wouldn’t make a difference.”

“But you’re just being paranoid. Only because Jamie happens to be pregnant, it doesn’t mean she should stay away from cars. She’s not automatically going to be in a car accident.”

“I don’t know, I couldn’t think straight. I was just worried, ok?” he sighed, throwing himself onto the couch.

“Well guess what? You got into a fight with her because you didn’t want her driving and what is she doing right now?” I asked him.

“She’s… Driving…” he said, almost as if he was just realizing that, then added one last word.

“Fuck.”

****************************************

Hmm… Did you see that coming?

Btw, I wanted to clarify something. In Chapter 62 (where Justin goes to meet up with Selena) at one point she says “You’re 18, Justin” and just in case you guys didn’t catch on or something, she says that because it’s technically still 2012 in the story. Haha, sorry if that wasn’t made clear.

Anyways, hope you enjoyed the chapter! I posted it a bit earlier than I thought but that’s okay!

What do you think of the argument?

Do you think Jamie will be in an accident? O.o
