13: Convincing
"They're a part of you now. I'm actually intrigued that you're so much more human-like than Persephone was." Hades mentioned.
"Persephone? Who is that?" You asked defensively.
"Ah well..." He had to cover his tracks; he did not want you to know that this was intentional. "As the only demon who looked as though they had plants on them. They were... Well they were something similar to my wife."
This jarred you.
"You were married?" You asked, astounded. "Do demons fall in love?"
"Demons? No, no they likely do not feel love. But they were my... companion. My favorite, so to say. I am not surprised that their jealousy drove them to this." A good save by Hades.
"I'm... I'm sorry." You apologized for no reason. "Is there a way to get her out of me?"
You scanned his face for any type of hope, but there was none.
"No... She's dead. You killed her, unknowingly." He sighed and looked at the ground, trying his best to look sad. But that wasn't a feeling he knew well so he looked more... awkward.
To you, however, this was one big pitiful scene and your human heart was having a difficult time walking away from it.
"I think..." He began again, "Perhaps if you practiced transforming, something I can do, you might be able to change back. I could... I could teach you? You wouldn't have to be my wife; although I will be lonely without my companion. I would most generously accept you as only a student, with whom I would be able to mentor."
You eyed him suspiciously, knowing that this was the god of the underworld. He saw this hesitancy in your eyes, but also the look that you did want to go. You just needed a reason.
"I am not evil as they say. I merely stood up for what I believed in and now I must care for the creatures who have no one else. I believe that I am good." He was getting a little bit tired of trying to convince you to come with him; soon he would just grab you regardless of your answer.
"You said that you needed help with your orchard there as well, right?" You asked carefully. "And can you promise me that I should not have to do something or agree to something that I do not want?" Looking downward, you fidgeted with your fingers. You really couldn't go back to your home looking like this; they would kill you more than likely.
His eyes widened just slightly. If he could only just get you to come to the Underworld, then he wouldn't have to worry about you returning back. Time ran so differently that even coming for just a minute would mean that your life in the human realm would end. There was no way that you could come back to your family if you were gone for years. Things would change. Your future husband would have moved on, your family would have accepted you as dead or runaway.
And lucky enough for Hades, you didn't remember that.
