Chapter 8~Sonic Wait!
"Dr. Eggman, I have news," Principle Eggman spoke to Dr. Eggman on the computer screen.
These two were working together?!
"First, how is Tails?" The doctor asked. Why was he curious about me?
"He's... He tends to stay alone, often locking himself in his room if he's not in class or the cafeteria. He does leave occasionally to be with one of the students, but that's it. I am still working on finding out what he does in his room."
That would make sense on why Dr. Eggman would want to know what I was doing here. I am, technically, an experiment that he sent here, and an enemy.
Dr. Eggman nodded. "I see." Then he growled under his breath. "I wish I had sent that blasted hedgehog over there instead!"
"It's better that we have Tails here, instead of Sonic," the principle said.
"Oh, so your world doesn't have your own version Tails there?"
The principle shook his head. "Not that I know of."
"Hmm... Prehaps he is in another city. Anyways, it's for the best. We cannot reveal the existence of my planet by having doppelgängers. So, what was the news you wanted to share?"
I was unable to see the principle's face, but I knew a wicked grin had spread out. "You were right. The Chaos Emeralds are here."
A smile appeared on the screen. "Excellent. How many have you found?"
"Just one so far. Unfortunately, creating something to track the Chaos Emeralds has proved to be more... Difficult than I thought."
Dr. Eggman nodded. "I feared you would have trouble making that. Don't worry, I'll send you something to help you."
"Good."
"Now, let's see the—" Suddenly, there was a crash from this side of the screen. "What on earth was that?!"
The principle stood up. "I'll be right back." He quickly left to see the cause of the noise. I wished that I would be able to leave now, but I can't do that without Dr. Eggman seeing me. If he does, he'll tell the principle. I'm in enough trouble as it is.
The principle returned after a few moments. "I wasn't able to find anything here, but I'm certain that whoever that was isn't far behind. We'll talk tomorrow night."
With that he turned off the screen. The principle looked around the room, for anything out of place, before walking out and turning off the lights.
Once I heard the door close, I let out a huge sigh of relief. I was scared that one of the two Eggman's would've have discovered me.
I slowly opened the closet door and stepped out, clutching the Miles Electric and the Chaos Emerald close to me, hoping that I won't come across any more problems.
Fortunately, I managed to sneak to my room without incident.
I paced in front of my bed, the Miles Electric and Chaos Emeralds on my bed.
"What am I going to do?!" I exclaimed, before quieting myself. I can't let the principle be aware of what I do, now that I know he's my enemy!
I stopped pacing for a moment. Maybe Sonic knows what to do!
I hope so...
I sat down and pressed my watch, waiting-hoping-that Sonic will answer.
"...Tails...?" A groggy voice asked.
"Sonic," I said. "I-I need your help."
"What is it?" he asked, all tiredness drained out of him.
"I just discovered that the Eggman here is working with Dr. Eggman."
"What?!"
After reminding him that he needs to stay quiet, I quickly told him about my finding the Chaos Emerald and then seeing the conversation between the two Eggman's.
"I knew not to trust him!" he barked angrily.
"Calm down," I said. "It won't do any good to yell."
In a much calmer voice, Sonic said, "I'm going to go talk to Egghead. Talk to you later."
"Sonic, wait—" but he hung up before I had the chance to stop him. Sonic might reveal that I know about the alliance between the the two Eggman's!
I don't how the principle here will react with knowing that I'm aware of him being an enemy. After all, we're both looking for the Chaos Emeralds!
I closed my eyes and steadied my breathing. Panicking won't get me anywhere. What I need to focus on is finding a way to safe-proof my room. I can't let the principle know what I'm doing in here, or that I have three Chaos Emeralds.
Not having much of a choice, I used the pieces from Eggman's machines and created something to prevent anyone from entering my room without my knowledge, should they get into my room. It looked like a tiny paper airplane with a little clamp to hang onto the top of the door. It'll sense when the door it open and alert me by sending it to the Miles Electric.
I attached it to my door, it was small and not very noticeable. You would only see it if you were looking for it, and knew what you were looking for.
I also created a small machine to wrap around the Chaos Emeralds, to hide the energy from anything trying to pick it up. I placed the cloth-looking machine and the Chaos Emeralds into my backpack. I can't risk separating from them now.
It wasn't much, but this was all I could do in the situation.
I glanced at my watch. I still had a few hours before before breakfast, so I might as well try to sleep.
I yawned as I climbed into bed. I need to leave this building, I couldn't help thinking. I don't want to know what Dr. Eggman plans on sending here to help the principle find the emeralds.
Then my mind wandered off to Cosmo, causing me to blush and frown. I'm her only friend here.
Plus, I lost her against the Meterax. I didn't think I'd be able to see her again, and I don't know how prepared I am to leave her again.
Tears prickled my eyes. I-I can't let myself get attached. It'll only make it harder for me to leave.
With Cosmo on my mind, I finally drifted off to sleep.
