Tomorrow is my first day with MBCR.
I feel kind of anxious.

I tell Natalie I'm going for a walk on the beach and leave the apartment.
It's surprisingly quiet outside. The moon is full, shining a silver path on the sea.

I almost want to walk on it.

After about half an hour, I realize how far I am from my apartment and start to turn back.

But then I see a boy lying half in the water and half on the sand a little further down the beach.

He isn't moving, and the tide is slowly creeping in.

I run towards him. When I get to there, I stop short in horror.

Blood drifts around him in the water. His skin is covered in bloody cuts, two of which are on the sides of his neck.

What happened to him?!

I drop to my knees, and feel for a pulse. The boy's toned chest heaves at my touch. I startle and he opens his eyes.

They're impossibly blue.

"Where...am I...?" He whispers through bleeding lips, "Am I...dead?"

"No," I quickly answer. I notice that below his abdomen, a scaly surface merges with the skin, almost as if... it is his skin!

Instead of legs, the boy has a tail.

"You're a mermaid!" I exclaim, recoiling backwards.

The Merboy

She backs away, scuttling like a sand crab. I'm a monster to her.

That's normal, of course. She's human, and I'm a strange creature of the deep.
But a sharp pain peirces my heart anyway.

Weird. It's probably the myriad wounds I possess.

She looks conflicted as she comes back.

What are you doing, little human?

"What do I do?" she murmurs, then says aloud, "I should call 9-1-1." She pulls out a small square of metal and glass and taps it, but seems to think better of it. She tucks it back inside her satchel, shaking her head. "No, they'd probably take him away and do experiments on him."

As glad as I am that she doesn't want me to have 'experiments' done on me, I can feel reality slipping away again.

I grab her arm. She jolts, but doesn't shake me off. "Oh, right, sorry." She smacks her forehead, "I'm going to have to take you to my home." She sighs. "And Natalie's going to have to understand."

Before I can ask what she's talking about, she stands up, grabs under my arms, and pulls me all the way out of the water.

At first, unbearable pain roars through my body. But then I don't feel anything, and  everything is white.

Did she just kill me?

The white fades away. In it's place is the night sky, full of stars twinkling like scattered silver.

I look around, and see the girl looking down at my face worriedly.

Alright, so I'm not dead. I feel the midnight breeze on my skin. There's something covering my tail, so I take it off.

What in Poseidon's blue ocean?!

"I have legs?!" I shout, and sit upright, staring down at my new limbs.

Oh, that hurts. I'm still covered in slashes and bruises.

"And apparently no sense of common decency!" The girl shrieks, covering her face. She feels around with one hand over her eyes, trying to find something. When her fingers poke my bare thigh, I pull back,

"Hey!" I gasp.

"Put my jacket back over your... self." She huffs.

I realize how awkward the situation is. I'm completely naked, and I just threw away my only covering, this poor girl's coat.

I wrap the material around my waist.
"It's safe now."

She uncovers her eyes, "Whew." She says quietly, "Okay, let's get you to safety."

A/N: I'm sorry it's been a while,  I just got my first job and I'm working on a bunch of other stuff and I'm super tired lol
