Forty Six
Flashback to Amanda's College Life..
"Nakakayamot na naman 'tong grades ko sa AbPsych!" Amanda groaned to her bestfriend, Chloe Stanford, as they eat their food at the cafeteria of Edelweiss University.
"Tell me about it!" Chloe agreed and sipped her drink.
The cafeteria, as always, was filled with loud murmurs of students who are having their breaktime. Or easier to say, who attempted to skip their classes and professors.
"Ako nga, 75 lang, masaya na eh!" their classmate, Rudolph Jacobs, butted in from another table.
Amanda frowned and twirled her fork on the spaghetti. She put it on her mouth and immediately savored the tastiness of the food.
"Ang sarap talaga ng pagkakaluto nila ng spag dito!" Amanda moaned with gusto.
"Naks, friend! Paano nga ungol mo?" Chloe teased her while laughing hard watching her eat her favorite food.
Amanda blushed and continued eating. She drank the water in front of her once she was done.
Amanda stared at the single-stemmed rose peeking out of her Psychology book.
Someone placed it there when she excused herself in class. Chloe didn't even bother to tell her whom it came from.
Aside from that, she kept receiving gifts from someone she doesn't know whether in her house or in their university.
Honestly, it creeps her out but somehow, she finds it sweet. The gifts have been going on for more than two years already. And she still has no idea where they come from. There was even no return address. Luckily, she was never harmed in any other way.
The sender slash admirer tends to leave sweet simple quotes from random authors in every gift he sent to her.
"Huy! Buhay ka pa ba, ghorl?" Chloe shooed her face and Amanda blinked. "Sana all may secret admirer. Sana all may pa-flower."
Amanda laughed and shook her head. She was about to open her mouth to say something but the bell rang signaling for the next class.
Amanda and Chloe hurriedly went to their classroom which was on the second floor of the building.
"Marathon na naman tayo besh! Nawala kinain ko dun!" Chloe complained when she took her seat in their classroom.
"Buti naka-flats tayo, noh?" Amanda chimed in and took out her notebook and pen.
Students were slowly filling in the classroom within five minutes. And not long enough, their Advance Trigonometry class started.
Amanda knew that she ought to be listening to their Professor but her thoughts went hayward when she caught a glimpse of a tall, muscular guy who passed by their classroom.
She shook her head and time flew fast and it was time to go home.
There was nothing she can do but wait for the rain to stop. It was raining hard when the class ended for everybody.
Amanda chose to wait inside the campus library and sat by the window.
The library was located on the second floor and she decided to charge her phone before anything else.
She hates dark silent places. So, she always equips herself with a powerbank just in case.
Thunder roared and all Amanda could do was cover her ears and shut her eyes close whenever a sharp lightning strikes.
She tried to calm her beating heart and her eyes happened to gaze at the street across their campus.
She saw a man with a black hood staring back at her.
Amanda shivered as she made eye contact with a man. She saw the man smirked before breaking their contact.
Amanda's gaze followed the man as he pulled out his hand and she started to get nervous when the man bumped into a student her age.
Amanda swore she saw something glistened in the light and prayed that it wasn't what she thought it was.
The man bent down as if to apologize to the student who walked past him. He made one last eye contact with Amanda and the next thing she knew when a car crashed into a post.
Amanda gasped in shock seeing the ill-fated car ruined in front of her.
The students inside the library with her also went to the window to look and loud noises instantly fill the air.
Amanda couldn't believe her eyes. She witnessed an accident and she almost suspected that a murder was the modus operandi. Her hunch tells her so.
People outside the campus and passersby as well as police stormed the area despite the heavy rains.
Amanda felt torn if she should speak up when she was able to get home thru taxi.
Her conscience and fear all bottled up inside her. Especially now that a two-year old infant died in the accident.
The next morning, thankfully, a weekend, Amanda decided to call the police station to tell what she knows.
But she received a mysterious note from someone which made her fear for her life as well as her family.
Speak or your parents will die.
