Niall's P.O.V
I saw a taxi get closer and closer at a fast speed passing by. I wondered if it was Ruby. She was late. It was 8:05 and she still wasn't here. I know it's just 5 minutes, but 5 minutes without her is like a day. I'm being overdramatic but I want her here, now. I really do. I looked down at my palm to see her necklace with the picture of her family. Her smile, it send shockwaves through my body making my heart pump more blood to my head. As my heartbeat quickened at the just the sight of her, I couldn't help but wonder if this friendship and relationship between us would make us happy. I will ask her out today and I hope she says yes. As my thoughts were fixed around this picture a loud noise alarmed me. Then I heard it, a heard a crash. It rang through my ears, vibrating in my eardrum. My ears picked The noise up like a sonar. It just did as when it did, my curiosity struck me. The crash just amplified as noise when it reached my ear. In my heart, the feeling of helping arose, motivating me to get out of my dear and go check it out. I stuffed the necklace in my pocket and saw another car hit the taxi. For a second, a spot in the window was darker, as if a shadow had hit it and then dissappeared. I knew immediately getting up to help was the right thing to do. I ran towards the car as fast as I could since it was 2 blocks down the street. Seconds matter in an accident, especially if someone is hurt. The closer I got, the more I started thinking about where Ruby was. . . She wouldn't be late, she wouldn't do that. She isn't that kind of person. The closer I got to the car, the more I thought, "Could it be Ruby inside that taxi?"
I caught my breath as I saw the door open partially, a shadowed wounded body falling to asphalt and cemented street. It took me a moment to realize that wasn't any person. My eyes widened as I knew who that was. It was. . .Ruby. I was right, my panick, my fear, my worry, was right. No wonder she was late. I ran faster and made my way to her. It was her and I wouldn't stop until I was with her. She was weak, she seemed lost, ill.
"Ruby! Ruby!" I shouted, but it seemed that she didn't hear me since she moved her head to every other direction but mine.
She was lost, distraught. I wondered if she was losing it or if she was too weak to even respond? Her eyes had lost their sparkle and were now hazy, opaque. The whites of her eyes weren't the same, they were dull and not the same as their usual. They looked sick, she's hurt. Those eyes don't lie. I didn't make it in time, she was knocked out cold, as she laid there lifelessly on the street. People began bustling around the accident. My identity was no longer in mind to me, she was my priority right now. Once I made it to her, I rolled her weak and cold body over. Her head laid in my chest, the cotton sucking the blood on her forehead like a sponge sucking the water away. Her lips were purple and her skin had lost its color. Her arm had pieces and shards of glass in them. They were puncturing it. Words could not explain the shards on her leg and foot. She must be in pain, agony. I was careful not to touch it and not to cause her more pain, even if she was in a deep sleep. Please not be dead. Please not be dead, I thought. Her leg was also bloody as it stained her clothes, my shirt, and the pavement. People began getting closer and her breathing slowed down even more. I felt her pulse, now faint. I need an ambulance. I heard people talking behind me. I heard snickers, chatters, and voices.
A woman behind me said, "Do you know her?"
I only looked at her in horror, "Call an ambulance!!! She's dying!!! Call an ambulance, please!!!"
I pleaded as the lady nodded calling the ambulance. My hands trembled as she felt colder and colder. I had her in my arms, trying to keep her warm. My breathing quickened, as the lady put her arm on my shoulder. She somehow felt that I needed reassurance and she was right, I did. My soon to be girlfriend and crush was dying and I'm here doing nothing. Come on Niall, think. The closest hospital is a few miles away. I can't walk her there or carry her without her getting even more hurt. I couldn't risk it.
"She is going to be ok. The ambulance is on their way." she said as I turned to her.
"Thank you." I said with gratitude.
I was frozen. When I saw her there, laying lifelessly without any motion whatsoever, I couldn't do anything but freeze and watch in terror as this was now etched in my mind, my conscience. I stroked her cold cheek as I waited for the ambulance, never once leaving her side. I wouldn't and couldn't. I looked at her locket again, she was frozen in time. Her smile brightening up anyone's mood, but when you see her on the ground injured, the silence is paralyzing. I cleared the piece of hair out of her face, revealing more blood on her forehead. The woman that called the ambulance kneeled beside me and put her hand on my shoulder. My eyes focused on her. She had brown messy hair that fell in her face down to her cheek without her trying. Her eyes were green and she looked like she was in her mid twenties. I focused on what she had to say since she opened her mouth.
"I'm sorry. I could tell she was close to you. She was special to you. I hope she feels better." she said as I turned to her.
"Thank you. I appreciate it. " I barely said anything. . .
She furrowed her brows and looked at me, "Haven't I seen you before. Don't I know you?"
I gulped, "No. No you don't."
Then a loud noise echoed down the street like a a voice deep inside a cave or cavern. An ambulance got closer and closer, the beeping alarm and siren whaling. It a matter of seconds before the abulance was in front of us and there in action. I didn't want to let her go as the men stepped out pulling a stretcher out with it. The man ran towards us as I looked at them.
"Look son, you might have to step back. " he said as I obeyed only because it was her.
The man checked her pulse as his frown made me feel even worse. A twisted, churned feeling in my stomach was far stronger than anything I had ever felt. I think I was gonna be sick.
"Bring the Automated External Defibrillator, Non-rebreather mask, and and Bag-Valve-Mask Resuscitator." the man said, more like ordered.
A three man crew came back with the equipment. One held her wrist and checked her pulse while looking at his silver grey watch, watching the seconds pass. He measured her pulse while the other man said, "Clear."
The rubbed the electronic pads together as the the electrons made a spark and charge and at his word they pressed it on her chest. She jumped up as I turned to the man measuring her pulse. I swallowed hard.
"I've got something! Its faint, but it's there." the man announced, giving somewhat a little more comfort.
The third red haired man put a breathing mask on her as it began giving her oxygen. She seemed to be breathing, but I wasn't sure since the men clouded and blocked my view. They carefully lifted her on a stretcher and lifted her into the ambulance. I wanted to follow before I felt someone pull on my hood. I felt the breeze sweep through my hair. Uh oh. I didn't look back as I hustled into the ambulance. Now they know that Niall Horan was there to help a civilian in a crash. She wasn't just a civilian. She was soo much more than that. I sat there as I watched them do their work.
A woman say beside me and said, "That's all we can do here. At least she's breathing. We stopped the bleeding a little, but she needs medical attention. Serious medical attention. Aren't you Niall Horan?"
Yes, I am and I just want to know if she will be ok.
I replied, "Yes. Will she be alright? Will she live?"
She sighed heavily, this wasn't good. "Well, we don't know. Her pulse isn't strong but if she's strong enough, she can make it through. It depends on her. Do you know her?"
I lied, "I was there at the right time."
She gave me a smirk, "From the looks of it, you seem to care more than being there at just the right time. You actually care, don't you. You two have a special bond, don't you?"
I gulped, "Uh. . ."
She chuckled, "Don't worry none of us will say anything. We promise. We vow to keep your secret. How long have you known her?"
I replied, "Have you ever had that feeling burning inside you that a certain person is the one and you just know it? You can feel it, deep inside your bones. That feeling is what lead me towards her. It sounds crazy but I feel that strongly about her and we haven't known each other for long. . ."
I kept it short and sweet since I didn't want anyone else to know about me and her. I didn't want to risk the press knowing. It would be a field day for them, not so much for me. As I saw the hospital emergency room coming up, the more I felt the nerves get to me. I was worried. I bloody worried about what would happen to her, what would be her fate. Our fate. I couldn't but get a sick feeling in my stomach. It churned. I quickly took my phone out and began making some phone calls. . .
Harry's P.O.V.
Taylor was just about to walk through the door when I got a call. Taylor made me cheery and happy. I loved her hair and her eyes. Those eyes gave me goosebumps and made my skin tingle. As I greeted Taylor I excused myself for a minute. Earlier I had gone to get my clothes since I had them dry cleaned. I decided to look sharp. Better to look sharp than bad I say. I wore a nice blue vest and some talored pants with a white undershirt. I let my curls be. You can never force your hair to do everything, especially curls.
When I saw Niall's face appear on my screen, I decided to give myself a moment and pick it up since maybe he needed advice on how to handle things. Especially with woman. I answered with a casual hello.
"Hello Niall. What-" I was cut off by Niall who seemed panicked and scared as hell.
"Harry. . .i-it's. . .I. .its-" Niall uttered and shuttered. Something is wrong. Something is definetly up.
"Niall? Are you ok? Is everything alright?" I asked, burrowing my brows as if he was here.
Niall said everything too fast that I didn't catch everything, "Rubywaslateandshesinthehospitalsinceshehadacaraccident."
I didn't get a word, "Huh? Niall slow down, breath. What's going on? Where are you guys?"
Niall replied worried, "In the hospital. Ruby's had a car accident and she's unconscious. We just got here. They won't let me in to see. Bloody hell Harry!!! Why didn't you tell me to pick me her up?"
I couldn't believe what he said, "Ruby is where?"
Niall sighed, "A drunk driver caused the crash and she is unconsious. She is in critical at the moment. Harry. . .she. . .she stopped. . ."
I exclaimed, "She stopped what!?!?!?"
I was worried, did she die!!! No she couldn't have died, she is in critical. Calm down Harry, stay calm. That's what Niall needs right now, stay calm.
"She stopped breathing. Her pulse was faint. Harry her lips were the most pailest shade of purple you have ever seen. Hell, she looked dead. Harry I'm at the Westgate Hospital emergency center. " Niall managed to say.
I nodded, "Yeah, I'll be there. Taylor's with me so she will tag along. Do you want me to call Liam and Zayn?"
Niall quickly responded, "Yeah, I'm horrified. The silence is paralyzing. Harry I'm going to have a panic attack. If she isn't ok. . ."
I quickly reassured him, "Hey, she will be ok. You will she. She will be fine and you'll be right beside her. Ok. Stay calm and I'll be there in 15 minutes and I will call Liam and Zayn, ok?"
Niall replied a little startled, " Yeah ok. I'll call Louis."
I hung up and looked at myself. Now I was deep thought. I grab my coat and called Liam and Zayn who were both startled by the news. Paul already had the keys and once I explained the situation to Taylor, she understood beating me to the car. I showed Taylor the pictures they had taken of just her and Niall and we both agreed they were a cute couple.
Taylor said, "Poor Niall, he's probably scared and nervous. Harry, are the boys going to meet you and Niall at the hospital?"
Harry nodded, "We were supposed to meet later and all of us would have our dates. It would've been 5 dates together since Niall would ask Ruby out later on this afternoon. That was the plan but now she's in the hospital all because of a bloody drunk driver. Niall has the bad case of nerves right now. So we are going to be there to help and support him through this."
Taylor nodded, "Yeah, I'm with you. I hope Niall is holding up ok at the hospital. How long till we get there?"
Harry replied, "15 Minutes. I'm soo sorry Taylor. I'm so sorry we had to cancel our date, but this was an emergency. "
Taylor nodded, "I hope she is ok."
I replied, "Me too."
I hope Niall is holding up ok. I bit my lip as Paul drove us to the hospital, hopefully she would be ok. I know Zayn and Perrie were on their way since Zayn sent me a text saying that they were 15 minutes away. Liam sent me a selfie with Danielle with hashtag helping Niall and hashtag Stay strong Ruby. They seem to be on their way too. Let's just hope she's Ok and is in stable condition when we get there. When all of us get there I should say. Please be ok. I had this bad feeling in my stomach, though. It was unexplanable but it was there. I hope I'm not right.
Uh oh, what's gonna happens?!?! Gotta read on and wait to find out. . .
