Thirteen
Lucifer's mood changes were the definition of hot and cold. One minute he is sweet, he won't leave me alone. Then the next he's distant and I don't know if he's being truthful with me on how he feels. I know Uriel dying affected him, I was there to see him die in his brother's arms.
I just wanted him to open up more. He knows I will be there as moral, and emotional, support. For anything. It didn't help he had gone AWOL in the precinct, breaking off the interview room locks on their doors, to get answers from the victims ex-boyfriend. In the end he was left a babbling mess because Lucifer showed off his eyes, cowering away in a spot behind a chair.
I continue checking my message inbox on my cell phone, for a reply, sharing a little hope he would respond back. Nothing. There is nothing from him.
" What's wrong, mommy? You look sad."
Ana frowned coming up to where I sat on the sofa chair, scaling the cotton material that made the couch, sitting on my legs.
" whenever I am sad you always tell me to be honest. And no matter how sad, I am, to not bottle it up."
' That is good advice. I taught my children well it seems.' I'll take my own advice.
" Well, Anna banana. Today was rough, for me. Your.. dad he, well, he isn't being honest with mommy. I guess it's because she thought she was finally.. making progress helping him. but I don't think daddy is ready to fully open up."
I told Ana, truthfully, fiddling the hem of the barbie dolls dress she had her in grasp.
" that's something I can deal with alone. You don't need to worry about it." She didn't need adult problems thrust upon her, it wasn't fair on her. " Where did your grandpa Nate go? He's been awfully secretive ever since I got home." He went to retrieve something an hour ago. he hasn't been seen since and that is a little suspicious in my books.
" I swear he was out.."
soon enough I heard the indistinct sound belonging to a beeping horn from a car. Ana's eyes lighten up instantly; knowingly. " Come on, Mommy! There is a surprise for you here! Grandpa Nate made me promise to make sure you were distracted. I did my job!"
Anastasia, tugging on my wrist persistently to have me up on my feet, ran off to the back entrance terrace where the fenced-off private parking garage is.
' What is going on here.. oh. My. Gosh. No, he didn't. Is that a..' I am left shocked when i laid eyes upon the sight of an older, vintage-aged, nineteen sixties Cadillac. I have keys tossed in my direction, which I catch and dad smiled, triumphantly, at my reaction.
" Your granddad John wanted you to have his car, after you turned eighteen, but he never got a.. chance to gift you it. Cause well.. you know. It was left to you in his will." Dad explained to me and Ana jumped on her heels, excitedly. " I had the intention of giving it to you a few days before, however we were interrupted and then you got busy with the whole Uriel situation. So take this as your belated, congratulations on a big milestone, present from me and grandpa."
' Grandpa John.' I don't remember the exact times, or years, I met my granddad. There are recollections of him when I was much younger but I do know I did love him. For him to leave behind a piece of him, even a materialistic and easily replaceable one such as a car, meant so much to me. Amelia and Aidan had appeared at both of my sides, whilst I was remembering, Amy held my hand. Aidan put his arm around my shoulder.
" You know, Mom. I always did favour your car over dads. It's much cooler in my opinion. Rory preferred his corvette, tho."
Aidan confesses, as Ana is lifted off the ground placed in the Cadillacs passenger seat by Nate. " You even passed the car on to Amelia, and I, for our eighteenth birthday. It was the greatest day of our lives because we admired how much it meant to you and we made a promise to each other we'd care for it. forever." A little detail on Aidan and Amelia is they are twins. Which for me to have figured out meant I would have had endured double the pain in childbirth. ' Yay.'
" Happy birthday, Mom. Well late birthday."
' I couldn't ask for better kids and family.'

Not too far from my house is a food-vendor truck, who is the lead suspect of the corpse bride shooting. He set up shop in a busy corner of the beach, knowing this is where he'll get all of his business from tourists and locals hoping to get a taste of Dutch cuisine.
' Looks morose in comparison to the other set ups around here if I am being honest.'
Lucifer, having cleaned up his act a little, had followed me to the truck.
" Just wait here. I'll ask him some questions." I muttered to Lucifer, knowing he could hear me while stepping up to the open-window services bench. I showed my LAPD officer badge to the chef. " I'm officer decker. Are you the owner of this truck? I want to ask a few questions, if you have spare time."
Customers groaned out in an attempt to vent their vexation for being cut-off. I honestly felt guilt but this is more important.
" Alfred Loomis, but you can call me Freddy. I take you are a chocolate hagelslag type of girl, am I right? Let me tell you what, I will give you your answers and in return you accept this free meal on the house. Your choice, beautiful."
Freddy flirts, I would be flattered if he wasn't doing it to get out of being questioned. ' there is always someone trying to flirt with me on the job.' I played along.
" Much as I'm tempt to admit that sounds like a good deal, sir. Earlier today there was a man, you served, his hair is styled in a buzz cut who was carrying a guitar case. Does that ring a bell? For you?"
There are hundreds of customers he serves each day, so I was asking him to find a needle in a haystack.
" If I may, one order of Oliebollen, please."
The words came out of Lucifers mouth and I turn to stare quizzically at him. ' What? Is it a food item on the menu?' I shook my head gently. He pointed at a pinned menu.
" That's the name of the meal, darling. Literally means Oily balls. I know it sounds horrid but it tastes better than it does when you say it out loud." Lucifer explained, this being one of the set-ups he liked to visit or so he told me on the way here. He even suggested we grab a bite to eat from this place. It smells nice I will admit.
" No, Sorry, was it decker? Officer decker. It's a little hard to remember seeing anyone like that here. I wasn't here during the morning shift."
I had seen the girl, Freddy's associate and a fellow chef he worked with, open her mouth in concern of a detail to the case.
" Actually. Freddy, I forgot to tell you. A guy like that was here when I was opening up shop. He asked when you would be around."
That is a little suspicious. The voices started to stir in my ears, telling me to turn my head and to look at the rooftop across the street. I did. I saw the glimmer of a reflective light, belonging to a sniper-rifle aimed at the truck.
A shot is let off but is silenced by a suppressor. Freddy's hit which caused an effect of screams and panic in the public eye.
" Shots fired! Shots fired! Send a bus to our location. Suspect is on the roof! I'll go after him and you wait here, Lucifer."
There is no time I do waste, using Human speed for a second going past two officers that arrived and racing down the alley, out of sight from any eye witness, I clamoured up the side of the building fire-escape ladder.
Reaching an area, where it was fenced off, I kicked in both of the railings which sent them hurtling towards a roof-top exit door.
Lucifer broke off the door hinges, a fierce look ablaze. Following hot on my heels he scouted the roof top for any signs of the shooter being present.
' Crap. How did he get out of here so fast? The only way he could have gotten out of sight was if he went down the service stairwell. It would be impossible Not to see him.'
A pile of rubbish caught my eye, among them is a lone gold case from a rifle left over and I shuffled my way to a nearby conveniently placed napkin. I inspected the cartridge, for any residual damage it would take a forensic test to find, but I couldn't focus on the sights.
I got on the ledge, the lightest of breezes from the ocean gently blowing through my hair. Lucifer had secured his hand on my hip bone, anticipating the fact the railing could give out but honestly it wasn't a high chance it would.
" Not very polite of Mr. Shooter to leave with-out saying a goodbye." Lucifer joked, which it would've annoyed before. but it is a reassuring sign he hasn't completely lost his sense of self. " Why shoot food truck Freddy? Just cause you were there to question him? That is an unjust crime, don't you think, Ellie." This was likely a premeditated act. The shooter knew where to come and commit to his attack on Freddy.
" I have a feeling it was thought of before hand. Presumably, I think he knew that we would be lead to Freddy's truck, and he waited for us to leave before striking but got impatient with us. So he made the shot there and then."
I diluted details in a short summary, for the lack for any better explanation. Plain. Simple.
" He must've shot at the bride. Before planning his next move to end Freddy's life."
This is a hit list.
' I wonder who is going to be the next target?'

Back at the station I had given Ella the bullet, knowing she will work her magic to get a print off the casing, and she was more than welcome to the idea of solving another case with us. My sensitive hearing picked up disgruntled groans and leaning on the glass door window, I watch a grumbling Lucifer try to get a snack out of an old station vending machine. " The devil meets his match in a lowly snack machine. Who'd at all thought that?" I snickered, finding it funny how he was haranguing about how much it's a useless invention. " do you need help, there?".
" Yes it's very amusing seeing me being denied a snack, for a second time today. Thank you, for that, darling. You got change?" My eyebrow raises at his question.
' Change? Is it too much of a hassle for the devil to carry around spare change?'
I rolled my neck around massaging it. I am in need of a break, not physically but the least mental. " You need a massage there, El?"
" No. it's fine, I just.. me being new, still, to the whole Being an Angel prospect and my newer physical skills it's proving a little more difficult than I originally imagined. You, and amen, are much older. Experienced. It's like my body has not registered I'm not a weakly human being."
It's like my body is still going through a Angel puberty. Testing the controls.
Amenadiel has a theory I still have human attributes that aren't as primitive and seen as before but it's as if the Angel blood is fighting my human DNA. Which really makes me feel outcasted than anything.
" I gave Ella the bullet casing. She'll give it to a few guys in ballistics, to see if there is a detail we've missed. I have set up a board of our key suspects. If you know.. you want to figure out. With me. Or not."
I jabbed a thumb behind me to a white-board of photographs, notes written in a red ink that are jotted across the investigative page of paper stuck on there. " Totally up to you."
" Let me just get these snacks out and I will be right with you, Darling. Go on, I won't be a sec longer."
I giggled, under my breath, at the 'Darling.'
' Why am I acting like such a school girl? Jeez. He always calls me Darling. What's different?'

With two victims, and two devastated spouses, all in the span of twenty four hours and mostly no other leads expect for a photo of Peggy with her meant-to-be husband Edgar Romero. And a list litigated by the wife of Freddy. He had no shame in flirting when he knew he is married.
I'm anticipating the evening leading to when I would go out trick or treating, going alongside Ana and Trixie.
Some would say I am too grown up, it's a childish choice as a twenty year old to make. Who's stuck in the body of a teenager. Forever.
On to matters that are more relevant, I flatten the crinkled material of my white blouse and I readjust my Pink lady lettermen jacket.
I chose to be Rizzo, out of the movie grease.
Amelia is Patty Simcox, Aidans choice is Danny Zuko. Going on theme for the night.
i helped Ana choose her Halloween costume. It was between Cinderella or Belle. She chose the first given her blonde hair colour suited it best.
" Okay, Maze. This is a Kid friendly outing. Alright? There won't be no parties of the sorts. We are doing this then we are coming back home before night time. I don't want to keep the kids out late."
Maze rolled her eyes, teasingly.
" Yes, ma'am. I understand. C'mon Lizzie. Stop being a Mom, for one minute, and remember that tonight is meant to be enjoyed. Let loose."
She argued, in a way that left no room to go against her word.
" Halloween is the one human tradition, that I actually care for, 'cause there are other people out there tonight tormenting unfortunate souls and I like the idea of seeing them all scared."
' Okay, I will listen to her. I do want to know why she isn't in costume herself. Oh well, she's coming out with us. That is more important.'
" Let's go get Trixie. She will he waiting on us."
JASMINE SPEAKS
Another short chapter I apologise. It's been too hot to focus, living in Australia can be brutally hard because of the heat and such.
It is the hot and dry days that really get me. It affects how I write.
Anyway, How did we like Ellie and Lucifer in this chapter? Her little giggle when he called her Darling.
Something is changing there.
Also I have a question.
How do you feel about.. me making some Alterations to season three? Like I don't know introducing Amelia and Aid.
Have Ellie be pregnant? Them sharing a little moment? Because this is an AU. After all. So?
