I have nothing against those who want to create an account, on a dating app such as this one, it's an easier option to meet someone and fall in love with them. A lot of people meet the love of their lives on apps, it's the twenty first century. Which in the recent years has spiraled out of control. It's now a privilege to think of even wanting to find a person, your person, to call your husband or your wife.
But for me? Finding someone to fall in love with? I want it to come naturally. Nothing forced. Just pure love. A simple understanding that the each of us know and see. If there is a little guidance on finding it, for others, then that also is completely okay to. I have no place to dictate what happens. Finding a love so true is a sacred duty. To find an end game and a happy, healthy, relationship is a key to success.
Which meant that I knew Mack slater didn't have the exact understanding of love, noting how he is easy to dismiss each question I ask about how he felt on the subject to the topic of love himself. He seems to dodge those with quick precision.
" Ok, so let me get this straight." I say, enlarging a mini sized digital photo of our victim, showing it to the ambiguous CEO himself. " If you say you didn't... know her, then how did you fight with her? It's a little confusing how you say you don't know her but reports say otherwise. Care to clarify that for me?" I pressed the matter, pinching my nostrils.
" 'Cause I know her type. She was Nuts, just like the type we get from time to time. They want to be on TopMeet, they can't clear our high bar, and then they get pissed about it." Slater clarified, his self portraits canvased on the timber walls of the office hanging like a metaphor of a crown on his head, using his hand to make a gesture. " But the problem with her was she just wouldn't take a no for an answer. And then she hacked her way onto my app! Then our users complained, of course, cause nobody joins TopMeet to hook up with some random nobody. So we had to kick her off."
That's a bit harsh. To call her a random nobody. I bite my tongue from saying a snarky remark on his choice of words. " Is the reason why she, like, I don't know got angry is 'cause of that and made that phone call to you? To complain about being.. kicked out?" I clicked my phones power button, to get the picture of our Vic off my phone, and my first thought is I am starting to not like Mr slater more and more the longer we are sat in his office.
" No, it was more like she went psycho." Laughed Mack.
" I rather much prefer the likes and idea of you, Detective decker, having a show of face here. You are a far more better match for my company than she ever would be. Then again you're taken, and spoken for, by mister Morningstar here. So I deduce that sentiment."
Lucifer placed his hand right on the centre of my thigh, which is usually a move I wouldn't be able to feel like blushing at but now it felt somewhat of a natural reaction to, and my legs were crossed as Lucifer patted the part of my thigh he gripped. " My wife and I are here on professional basis's. Which, I can't believe I'm saying, usually I'd find all this rather mundane to the contrary of what I say about this line of work but today is the first of many I want to take things seriously. For her." Lucifer remarked with the half truth, we are on a work day hour time frame on the search for any evidence to bring her to justice, but it didn't keep me from playing along with the whole him being my husband and I am his wife.
" Where were you when you made the call? What did you do after you hung up on Miss jones? Was there anything you did? Or went to?"
" I stayed here and worked late." Slater answered. " We've been busy as hell these days."
" Not nearly, I can assure you." Lucifer recounted the statement with his own words a double edged sword of truth. " You'd be surprised how bustling hell can be with all those damned, lost, souls are trapped in their hell loop. Which reminds me I've been thinking, Ellie, darling. I might fly us down to hell one of these days. I've said in the past but I hate to be course with the obvious observation of how busy both of our lives have come to be.."
" Much as I want to believe you, Mr. Slater, I will need to have those who were here the day you'd taken the phone call with Miss jones." I explain, cutting lucifer off from his own little ramble after I had seen slater begin to stare puzzled at him, as I clasped Lucifer on his fingers. " Those can give a good, corroborated, alibi to say you were here. I will like a list of those who've made complaints to you about Kim." I am trying not to let the thought of Lucifer's touch derail my professional mindset.
" No can do. With so many celebrity clients, our entire business model is based off ironclad privacy protocols."
Which makes total sense. Not. It will take a couple of days, or the longest time to wait two weeks, for a warrant for those accounts. I pinched my fingers to my nose bridge. Perfect.
'Now what are we going to do?'

" That looks absolutely nothing like our Victim."
I mean Lucifer isn't wrong but catfishing isn't an illegal thing to do. Might be deceptive for others but who says to change your make up a little is an offence or an instagram filter being used. All of us have a beauty that is natural, it's nothing to be ashamed about or have, however much make up is used.
" Take note, Daniel, these filters could be the answer to your dating drought." Lucifer adds, suggesting my uncle didn't have an attractiveness like he does, and shook my head at how redundant he is for not lacking the quick marks he does make at my uncle. " What? Ellie, darling. You know i am telling the truth! I saw that shake of the head you did!"
" Or not. Kim only got one match." Ella pointed out a singular match Kim made on the entire app itself. " Out of all those million others accounts. She got one! One! That is better than me with all of this year combined." She added, shaking her head to get herself out of the self imposed dating scene crisis she just told us.
" Really? After all the effort our shoe went through to make herself look like a top hat, she only got the interest of one gentleman?"
" More like suspect." I muttered, walking up to Ella to ask for the tablet she is holding, and I feel Lucifer's eyes continue to stay on me the longer I focus on the tablet which displays a username on screen. " Username forever twenty nine. That is such an original name." I, with sarcasm, stated. I hear Ella snort from behind me, as she scrolled a finger on the smart screen on the tablet in hand.
" The app arranged a date for them, and based on their likes and locations, it suggested a sushi place on Melrose. Even made a reservation for them for the night of the murder."
" This forever guy, from what I see, is using this app as a hunting ground. For all we know he could be choosing his next target and somebody's going to be the next unfortunate victim." I muster out, thinking of what move to make next to catch the one behind the account, and look to uncle Dan. " We gotta get him before he possibly kills again."
" Yeah, but how? We can't even get an ID." Uncle Dan shrugs. " Best we can do is ask about another Warrant request to search deeper into TopMeet."
" But here's the thing, Tech team hasn't been able to crack TopMeet's security algo. Which means... Kim had some mad hacking skills!"
" So, is it possible we could use this forever two nine account picture and run it through AFIC?" Facial recognition could help us understand and identify if this is a known killer so we could have an easier opportunity to catch this guy. My arms crossed over another. " Ella? Is it possible to do that?" I give back the electronic to Ella, to make her job easier to search the data base we have, and she brings up a photo of blue eyes. Partial pictures aren't going to help us here.
" Ugh. Partial profile pics, such a tell tale sign of low self esteem."
" Or our guy is trying to keep his identity hidden. So he doesn't get recognised and he's our killer."
" Wait a minute." Ella intercepted Lucifer and i's banter with a pause of her own voice. " There is some good news, you guys. He used the app... to RSVP for a mixer at TopMeet, that is happening, tonight." She exclaimed, which could be a perfect opportunity to catch this Forever29 who possibly could be our killer. Single him out and get him.
" Alright. I'm not much of a party girl but for this I might make the exception as we have a killer to catch. We can use what we know about him and lure him out in the open."
" Okay, I'll go but only if you come with me, Ellie. Darling. We are the only interesting ones here plus I don't really feel up to being... there alone. I would like to at least keep up the facade of being your husband.." Lucifer examined the situation at hand, thinking it is appropriate to bring up the question of his own little lie he made which even I had outed as suspicious simply because he's the devil and he supposedly couldn't lie but he made up that lie on the spot himself, before he could be sure it is right to say in the room of my uncle. I'm right. Uncle dan choked on air swinging his head around at Lucifer. " Oh, don't look at me like that Daniel. I might be the devil, to whom cannot lie, but I did give your niece this.." he showed off my promise ring as he made a grab for my wrist.
" Technically I am being truthful. It's a Promise ring."
" So, you made up this No-lie that you're hitched to my daughter?!" Uncle Dan, exasperated, says. " What the hell, Lucifer?"
'Can this day just be over with already, please?'

It was decided I would go alone, undercover, as a means of getting our suspect. Much to the dismay of Lucifer's whining about going in with me I had no inhibitions, or concerns, about what'll happen as I know I could protect myself easily. With one lone punch I could knock the guy out and make it look like we got in an altercation. So now Lucifer is schooling me on how to be him. Or 'Elisabetta does Lucifer' in Ella's words not mine which got a cocky grin out of himself hearing it being worded.
I have a barbie doll, I'm pretending to be another girl with, in hand that I had lying about I used to play with. Lucifer had Ken. " Oh, The Paris shows were glorious. Yes, worth the jet lag alone. How was your weekend?" He, wellโ Lucifer-Ken, asks. I couldn't take this seriously, hiding my giggles. I put my chin on the inside of my palm moving the Rachelle doll I am using to indicate she is talking.
" My weekend was, uh, it was good. I didn't get to do much but it was still a great weekend. I, uh, I went to this really nice beach in Venice for a good swim as it was hot." It is the truth, I did get to go for a nice swim in Venice Beach for the evening as I was reminiscing times I had with my dadโ I actually did go to the beach, I forgot to mention, with him and we had a great time together. He is still very much a good reminder of how I've miss my mom. My birth mom. It's been so long since I could remember what my mother sounds like. " I went there, actually, with my dad. He..."
" Oh, really, that is interesting." Lucifer knocked the ken doll off its plastic legs. Pretending I had killed him and I rolled my eyes. " You see that? I think you killed him with how obscenely, sweet, and sickeningly cute but boring that was! Now I found it adorable you had your dear previously dead dad there to enjoy the beach but this will not fly with mister forever two-nine, Darling." Lucifer moved closer, scraping the new polished floor boarding to my kitchen that I paid good money to refurbish while getting the island chair right next to me, he huffs. " You are going to this TopMeet mixer to hunt a killer, not to talk about this dreadfully boring but sweet little daddy daughter dates, Sweetheart."
" I'm sorry I'm not use to the fancy lifestyle Ken has." I sighed. " I was an average, everyday, girl. That didn't get to experience the luxury of it all. A real plain Jane."
" You are far from average, Ellie." Lucifer retorts. " If anything I found you fascinating the first day we met." He admits, to which he caught his word in the second he did utter it, and made a clear of his throat. I bite back a smile at his words using a hand to swipe the hair of Rachelle back. " What I meant was don't lessen yourself just because of how differently we lived our lives before we met." He stood up, offering his hand which I take with no second of hesitation that I would have done if it was any other day, and he puffed his jacket out.
" We are going to do a little Role-play, Hmm. You be a Randy single man, and I'll... be you. Alright."
Lucifer flipped the hair off his imaginary head of long hair, which is meant to imitate mine, and I leaned my hair back with a raise of eyebrow at it. " Oh, so that is meant to be me? Huh? I don't flip my hair like that. At all." I unironically proved it by doing the exact thing he is copying and I dead pan. " Okay maybe I do that but what's that gotta do with this entire operation? We're there to get a killer and catch him. Not talk about hair, Luc."
" It's all about the hair, Ellie, dear. Meet Lucinda. Come on!" Are we seriously doing this right now or am I dreaming this happening?
'Well if he can be Lucinda. I can be Ethan' don't know if that is even close to my actual name but I really couldn't come up with another name for it. 'Time to channel my inner Lucifer.' Pushing back my leather jacket's flap, hand on my hip, and my other one in my pocket I copied the stupid smirk Lucifer does to attract the humans. I grinned as it seemed to puzzle Lucifer himself.
'This is going to be fun'.

I had gone all out for the TopMeet event. I copied Lucifer's style, to match with how we practiced to be him at the place it's held, and I had driven my car there myself cause if anything I would feel at lot more at ease knowing if this went south I had my car to go after the suspect if he decided to go on the run. Lucifer, who met me at the valet park meet, opened my drivers side of the car with the look of awe at my prestige pantsuit I picked up at the dry cleaner. I bought this last minute at the second hand store for a good price. My hair is on the right side of my shoulders, in nice waves.
" Woah, Ellie, darling. You look.."
" Like I am the female, but better, version of you? I know." I said, the cockiness rubbing off of me, I spun on the spot. " Got this off the rack for half of its original price. Scored it before anyone else! It is a shocker someone gave this up. I love it." My smile reached my eyes, patting my legs, and my legs do a little leap at how excited I am to finally be able to show off how my acting skills can be. " Cause if that is what you were going to say then I agree."
" Well, yes, you took the words right out of... well out of my mouth. And you will need to wear this." He passed me an in-ear communicator piece that I could lodge in my ear. I didn't need that as I'd hear everything. Super hearing if he didn't forget to recall. " Now I know what you are going to say, how you don't need it 'cause of our hearing, but I want you to do it. Give me and your old man, both of your old men, peace of mind. Just do it, I ask of you, please." I grumbled while still taking the easy to hide piece of equipment, shaking my head.
" Blue eyed sushi snob loves surfing and a lot of splooshing, I'd say you're a bit out of your comfort zone, Darling." The vote of confidence is real palpable. Note the sarcasm there.
" So, you are going to need to bring Lucinda's A game."
" You mean your A-game."
" Absolutely. Oh, while we're at it, do you need a reminder on splooshing? It's very simple.."
" Luc, Luc?" He paused, to let me speak, and my lips pursed. " I'm good. I don't need a reminder. I will be just fine. Okay? I'll be Lucinda." I take off my promise ring, and he looked as if I shot him in the heart myself removing the ring off my left hand but is quick to recover himself from, while I give him the ring. " If I am to appear like I'm, you know, single and ready to mingle then this ring'll make it difficult. So, I am taking it off and it will be safe kept with you while I'm inside." Brushing my hair out to give it more volume, i reached for the handkerchief lucifer had in his breast pocket tucking it in to mine, completing my outfit. " See. I am ready for whatever is going to happen."
" Yes you are."
The TopMeet meeting isn't exactly my scene but i had to tough it out for tonight. Edm blared out of the stereos inside the TopMeet building, selfies of the night being posted to the users social media, and thoughtless conversations were happening as i made myself appear more confident walking in amongst the socialites of Los Angeles. Heading to the bar, I keep my head held high, and leaned on the counter. A drink already in mind I knew I had to choose.
" Hi, there. I'll take a shot of Prosecco, if I may, please."
I manage to conjure the smile I practiced in the rear view mirror on the way here. It worked. The bartender is charmed and Lucifer is as well as his voice echoed with pride in my ear loudly.
" I see you've been doing your studies, darling. I don't know if flattery is the right answer but I'll be glad to admit I most certainly am. Prosecco's a good choice."
While I am waiting for my Prosecco, to be served, with both of my arms and elbows fully leaning on the counter I hear the sound of a new set of feet making their way up to where I am standing and i stared at the stereotypical long haired Californian man before me.
He fit the description of what the lifestyle of Los Angeles represents. Pretty boy but not pretentious. " Hey there. What's your name?" He asked, he had the accent of a surfer boy down.
" Just give him a fake name, Ellie." I hear Lucifer say, in ear, and I rolled my eyes mentally. " It is a possibility he could be our killer. Be careful."
" Lucinda. My name is Lucinda." I tell him, with a feigned British accent which I hope sounded at all convincing enough. It did and the surfer didn't even question it. " Are you from around here? It's a lovely city you have here. I'm from out of town, if you can't tell from my devilishly good accent." I am having way too much fun with playing these games of charade using Lucifer as my muse for it. " Is there any good.." I get closer to the surfer, as of means to get a good understanding of his own intentions I could interpret from my angel side I could put my trust in, and nothing is ringing off.
" Places to get a good round of sushi? I am lover for a good sushi platter. You know?"
" I'm Vegan." He, plainly, said offended by how I am bringing up sushi. " Have a nice night."
With it he picks up a beer, from the counter, and walks off. 'Well then. That went well. Oh, well.'
I rolled my eyes, Prosecco in my glass in hand, and began to wonder more into the crowd to search for our blue eyed mystery killer. Lucifer is arguing with my uncle Dan in the ear piece, which I had heard enough of and decided to take my ear piece out of my ear, going at this alone. I had it all covered by now. 'What do we have here. Is this mister blue eyes I've been looking for?'
He spotted me, before I could fully approach the bar, and I bring my drink up to my lips keeping both of my eyes on his. He's medium height, he's a good centimetre taller than myself which isn't an issue to achieve since I am short, and had dirtied blonde hair.
" You look like you surf with the tan you have. You do surf, right?" I questioned with a charmed expression of a smile mixed with a flirty voice.
" Well, I'd like to surf in your eyes." Oh, that is a new one I haven't heard before. " With eyes like yours I could get lost in them for hours."
'And you've lost me with this conversation'.
My instincts were telling me this isn't our killer, so I excused myself out of the conversation while I had made up an excuse on needing to use the rest room. Mingling in with the girls and the guys of LA's finest candidates, I was beginning to get a sense our killer is probably not here and all of the previous preparation for this sting is nothing but a time waster.
'I'm ready to go back home. Cause he clearly is going to show his face' just when the night seemed like it is over my shoulder is tapped lightly. I turned to face a curled raven haired man with a slim, symmetrical, lean build that doesn't usually scream TopMeet but each to their own it is I guess.
" Hi. I saw you around, not to long ago, and wanted to introduce myself. I'm Benji."
Guilty. I narrowed my eyes. So this is who I am looking for. I smiled, flatteringly, and showed my badge to him. " Hi, Benji. It's nice to meet you."
I see the life drain out of his eyes, his Pupils began to dilate at how much trouble he's in, and before he could run off I am quick to put his arms in an instant lock that looked like I was hugging him in an intimate way. He couldn't escape even if he did want or try to. He's no match to my strength.
" You, me, we're going to have our first date at this nice place called the LAPD precinct. Think you'll like it and the cells they have there are real nice I hear."
" Oh, Dearie me, Ellie. You gave detective douche and myself quite the scare when you went on that little rogue mission!"
Lucifer, as he came rushing over from being in the van that is parked outside the sting operation is happening, says baffled at how I could go off the deep end but I had faith in my ability to be able to catch him. And I did do it.
" Well it seems you caught our suspect! Good job on the arrest, Darling."
" I know I did, Luc. Now let's get him back to the station!"
JASMINE SPEAKS;
Another update done and published. Have to say, once this story is finished I don't think I will ever have the chance to recreate how special this book is to me. How special Ellie is. She is my first ever OC, my first baby, I've had for years before I had officially started her story previously in other fics I published then un-published in the past. But, it doesn't take away from the fact special she is.
Years ago I wasn't as half as confident or knew of what direction I wanted to take Ellie's story but I made it this far into her story cause I know now. I know what life she lives and her stories direction. If that makes sense to you. Thank you for all your love, and for giving Ellie the love she deserves.
Now for the questions.
What did you think of Ellie and Lucifer? In their little parts of the chapter? Her and Dan? Ella?
