Chapter Twenty One
Oh my God. My jaw dropped and I wondered what his parents were doing here. I covered my mouth and walked towards them as fast as I could.
"Mr. Wolfram? What's going on?" I asked him.
"Hi Natalie. It took us a while to find your house. Do you mind if we ask you where's Brad," he told me. I was shocked.
"What?"
"We just want to know what happened," his mom said. She was thin, almost gauntly looking, pale and blond. I wondered if she was sick, but didn't ask.
"Brad dumped me and left me before the party even started," I said. It was so harsh for me to say that, that I shed a single tear. Then, I wiped it off.
"He would never do that. He's crazy about you. We just want to know the truth," Mrs. Wolfram said.
"I'm telling you the truth. He came here at six, picked me up in his bike and we left to Tamara's where we were going to meet up because we had planned a double date to go to the Halloween party. He was with us in the van, but halfway to school he complained that he had a stomach ache. He told Preston, who was the one driving Tamara's car to pull over. He did. He vomited and then took off. I told Preston to stop him, but Brad had already left. That's all I know," I said.
"We've been trying to call him and he hasn't answered his cell," his mom said.
"Wait a minute, are you telling me that he never went home?" I asked them. His mom shook his head.
"No," Mr. Wolfram replied. Holy shit. There was this strange creature running around and Brad was missing. Where was he?
"Did you call the police?" I asked them panicked.j
"Yes, but they told us that we have to wait twenty four hours before we report him as missing and since he was going to this Halloween party thing, but it's already two in the morning and his curfew is at one," Brad's mom said.
"Is there anything we can do?" I asked them.
"Well, if you see him can you tell him to please come home. We're worried," his dad said. No shit. So was I. This wasn't like him at all. He could be hurt somewhere.
"I think we should go search for him Mr. Wolfram. He could be out there hurt," I said, but my mom shook her head and waved at them.
"No, no, no. My daughter isn't searching for anyone at two o'clock in the morning. He may be at a friend's house playing video games for all we know," she said.
"Mom, but he was feeling sick," I said.
"You have to listen to your mom, Natalie. Just call us if he comes here," he said and I nodded.
"I will," I said.
"Mrs. Peterson-"
"Connor, my last name is Mrs. Connor," my mom corrected them. They nodded.
"Mrs. Connor, if you see anything, please let us know," they said and shook my mom's hand.
"Goodnight, to you and I'm sorry to have barged in like this, but we didn't have Natalie's number and we were very worried. We thought that maybe he was here," Mrs. Wolfram said.
"I understand and we'll keep our eyes open. Goodnight," my mom said and closed the door after they left.
"Was that true?" she asked me. I nodded.
"He said he didn't feel well and left," I told her.
"So, he stood you up," she said crossing her arms.
"Mom, he hasn't returned to their house. He could be hurt," I said.
"Let's hope not and let's hope that he's not with another girl. I would be really pissed to find out that he's fooling around with someone else," she said and then she hugged me and kissed me.
"I love you sweetie," she said.
"I love you too."
I tried to sleep, but I couldn't. I was tossing and turning all night. I wanted to call Tamara, but it was too late, so I didn't. Instead I dialed Brad's phone number even though it was super late. I thought that maybe he'd answer his phone, but he never did. I was burdened with worry and I could barely sleep. The next day I felt heavy, like a zombie. I couldn't open my eyes right and I yawned with each pace. I hardly did anything that day and I went back to bed at noon. My phone ring around three o'clock. It was an unknown number. I usually didn't reply to unknown phone numbers, but I thought that it could be Brad, so I picked up the phone.
"Hello?"
"Natalie? It's so good to hear your voice." It was Brad.
"Brad? Oh my God, where are you?" I asked.
"I need your help. Do you think you can go pick up some clothes for me?" He asked me. What?
"Why?"
"My clothes are all ripped," he said.
"Oh my God, what happened?" I asked him.
"I don't know. Could you please help me?" He said.
"Yeah, sure," I said and asked him his size and where he was.
"I'm at a baseball park. I don't know the name."
"You're in Valor Park?" I asked him.
"I don't know," he said and then his signal was bad and I couldn't hear him anymore.
"Hello? Hello?" I could only hear static.
I told my mom a little white lie before leaving the house. I said I was going to eat out.
"Okay Natalie," she said and I called Tamara.
"Hello?" She asked.
"Hi. I need a favor," I said.
"I have some seriously bad news for you. Brad's missing," Tamara said.
"No. Well... he was, but he called me and I need you to take me to a men's store. He just called me."
"What? His parents were here last night. His bike is still parked up front," Tamara said.
"Don't tell your parents, just try to take the car with you and pick me up, please," I said.
"Okay."
