Chapter Thirty Four
My dad's phone was ringing. He didn't pick it up at the first ring, so I had to call him a few times. He answered the phone by my fifth call.
"Natalie?"
"Dad," I replied.
"What is it? I'm busy."
"Dad, I need your help," I replied.
"With what?" He asked me.
"I need sound proof walls and a cage," I said.
"Why the hell do you need sound proof walls and a cage?" He asked me. It was going to be weird to explain it to him, but I figured, screw it.
"It's for Brad, my boyfriend," I replied.
"Oh, fuck no. There is no way in hell you're going to do stripping," he said.
"Dad, it's not that. It's just... wait a minute," I said as Mrs. Wolfram turned on the TV.
"Isn't that?"
"Yep," Brad said. I recognized the guy who was on the floor. It was Patrick. He was dead. The news were saying that he had committed suicide this morning by putting a bullet on his head, but I knew that it wasn't a suicide. I also knew that Brad was the hunter's next target.
"Dad, I seriously need this stuff, it's urgent," I said.
"Aren't you going to tell me why?"
"And silver. Lots of silver," I replied.
"Okay, I'll send it to you in a couple of days. I'm real busy."
"Dad it has to be today, this is an emergency," I urged him.
"Alright, alright. Can you come by the office at five? I'll get you everything, but I want some answers," he said.
"Okay," I replied.
"Okay sweetie, bye." I hung up the phone.
"I have to go and get everything at five," I told the Wolframs.
"I'll go with you," Brad said.
"No. I don't want you to go out Brad. Not for anything. He's out there looking for you. Look at what happened to Patrick," I said.
"She's right. I think you'll be safer here. We'll wait," his mom said. Brad grabbed my hand and pulled me into the kitchen where we could be alone. His mom was about to come in, but Franklin stopped her.
"Sarah, give him some privacy," I heard him say. Soon we were in the kitchen alone.
"Natalie. I don't know what I'd do without you," he said and kissed my hand. I blushed.
"Oh, you'd probably be in a lot of trouble by now," I replied.
"Yeah," he nodded and then he kissed me.
"Do you still love me? Even though I'm this... thing?" He asked me. I looked into his deep blue eyes and I wanted to drown in them. I kissed him profoundly and felt my entire body tingling.
"Brad... I still love you and we're going to make this work out," I replied. Brad nodded.
"Thank you," he said and we kissed again.
"You're very welcome," I replied.
Moments later I left the house and headed home. I was about to climb back up into my room, when my mother was in the backyard with her arms crossed and next to her was "Jake" the supposedly police officer.
"Don't bother," she said.
"Mom?" I asked her. She shook her head and I could tell that she was angry with me.
"I'm sorry I escaped from my room but-"
"And I'm sorry that you're into drugs again," She said showing me a bag of weed.
"Hey, that's not mine. I stopped using pot two months ago. I swear," I replied.
"This isn't funny anymore," she said.
"I'm so sorry Mrs. Connor. Addiction seems to have overtaken her," he told her.
"Liar. You planted that. I'm innocent mom. He's not even a cop, he's a werewolf hunter," I remarked.
"That's enough," My mom said.
"You're coming with me," Jake said.
"I'm not going anywhere with you," I said and ran away.
"Natalie!" My mom called out to me, but I ran the hell out of there. Jake was chasing after me and he wouldn't have caught up with me if I wouldn't had tripped on a log, but unfortunately I did. He grabbed me by the arm and smiled.
"Hey beautiful. Where's Brad?" He asked me.
"I don't know who you're talking about, sorry," I replied and tried to leave his grip, but he squeezed my arm tighter and pulled me into his chest.
"You know who I'm talking about, pretty boy. Where is he?"
"I'm never going to tell you," I spat back. He cleaned the spit with his hand.
"I don't want to hurt you, so don't make me do it," he said and cuffed me. Our nosy neighbor, Mrs. Hitchcock had her curtain open and I could see her looking out from her window. I was "arrested" and taken into the patrol car.
"Don't worry Mrs. Connor. All you have to do is pay bail at the station and she'll be out in no time," he reassured her.
"This is so embarrassing," my mom mumbled.
"Mom?"
"I have to go to an ATM machine Natalie. I'll be there as soon as I can. She won't be placed with other inmates or anything?" She asked Jake.
"Of course not," Jake replied. But I knew it was all crap. He wasn't taking me to the precinct. He was going to force me to talk about Brad.
Hours passed by and all we did was drive around. He went to the Sportstore and waited for Brad. He never showed.
"Your boyfriend has to die Natalie. Don't you understand? He's a werewolf," he said.
"He's different. He hasn't killed anyone. That was all Patrick. You already disposed of him, so I don't know why you're still looking for Brad," I said. I was at the back of the patrol car, as we spoke.
"You think that he's different because he hasn't killed anyone? Well, not yet, but he's going to and when he does, I'm going to be there," he said.
"But what if we can restrain him on full moons? Would you let him go?" I asked him.
"Restrain him?" He asked and then he laughed.
"What's so funny? It's not a bad idea. All we need to do is restrain him on full moon nights and he won't kill anybody. He's agreed to it. He wants to do it. He's not like Patrick," I said.
"Look, that's what he says now, but eventually he's going to want to eat human flesh. Fortunately, for us, I'm not going to let that happen," he said.
"Why are you so irrational?" I demanded.
"Irrational? I don't know, because maybe it's my job to protect you," he said.
"Me? What do you mean?" I asked him. He shook his head. It was obvious that he screwed up so he was trying to make amends.
"Not you, I mean you as in the human race," he said. But did he mean it?
"No you didn't. You said me? Why do you need to protect me?" I asked.
"Shut up," he said. I insisted and he took his gun out and aimed at me.
"I said shut up. I don't want to have to hurt you," he said again.
"All we have to do is wait until nighttime and your boyfriend is going to show up soon and kill somebody, but this time I'm going to be there," he said.
"He's not going to kill anyone," I replied and sat back. There was nothing else I could say. I looked out the window and there was nothing but boredom. My mom had to be freaking by now. I didn't know what time it was because I didn't have my cellphone with me, but it was ringing like crazy, so I assumed that it was five.
"It's already five o'clock. I need to answer that phone. It might be my dad," I said. Jake looked at the phone and nodded.
"Okay," he said and walked out of the patrol car. I was scared. I thought he was going to toss my phone away, but surprisingly he opened the door for me and gave me my phone. It was my dad.
"Hi, dad," I answered. My dad was angry and worried all at once.
"Um... I'm... I can't say," I replied. He was asking where I was.
"I'm fine. Um... a so called police officer named Jake," I replied. Then I frowned and looked at Jake oddly.
"What? Umm... okay," I said and gave my phone to Jake.
"He wants to talk to you," I said. Jake grabbed the phone and replied.
"I'm sorry Mr. Peterson, but your daughter was being irrational... her boyfriend's been turned into a werewolf and oh..." he said and then returned the phone to me and closed the door. He got into the driver's seat and turned on the ignition. I looked at my phone, but my dad had already hung up.
"Okay... I don't understand. You know my dad?" I asked him. He smirked.
"Yeah. He told me to take you home. We're going to restrain your boyfriend in the basement and he'll just pass the night in there. He just gave me another job," he said.
"What? Wait a minute, I'm confused," I remarked.
"Your dad's my employer. He hired me to keep you safe. I'm one of your dad's bodyguards," he said.
"Seriously?" I asked him. I couldn't believe it.
"Yeah. My name's Alvin, by the way," he said.
"Alvin? Like in Alvin and the chipmunks?" I asked.
"That's really not funny, but yeah, like Alvin," he said.
"We have to go to your dad's office. He said that all the stuff that you asked for was there," he said. So, we rode all the way to my dad's office which was in the city in a huge skyscraper. "Jake" who was apparently Alvin now, opened the door for me and escorted me into the building. There were a lot of adults in suits and they were all looking serious in their business attire. We went to the last floor, no questions were asked, not even in the lobby. Everybody just nodded to us and said hi to "Alvin". I shook my head in disbelief. We reached my dad's office. His secretary greeted us and let us in. She opened his door and there was dad, talking with somebody on the phone.
"Okay, eat my dust then," he said and hung up. I wondered who he was arguing with.
"Hey, sweetie. Thanks for taking care of her Alvin, but don't you ever pull that shit on me again," he said.
"I was just doing what I was told," Alvin said.
"Well, next time call me," he said and hugged me.
"Dad?" I asked confused.
"Honey, why didn't you tell me that Brad was a werewolf?" He asked me.
"What? You know about werewolves?" I asked him. He nodded and pushed his glasses up his nose.
"Why of course honey. That's why I told Alvin to take some hunter training. I didn't want my baby to be hurt. After your mom told me about your Halloween party, I knew I had to do something," he said.
"But how do you know about werewolves dad?"
"Honey, I'm in business with a lot of people, okay? I don't want you to worry about it," he said. I had so many questions, but I figured he could tell me later. I was really worried about Brad.
"What about Brad? I love him," I said desperately. I hoped my dad understood.
"Honey, we're going to look for a cure, but for now we'll just restrain him. That's going to be Alvin's job," he said.
"Really?" I asked him. My dad nodded.
"Of course sweetie. Alvin, everything is in the dispatch area. There's a truck there. Just take it all to her boyfriend's house and get him restrained," my dad said and Alvin nodded.
"I'm going with him," I said, but my dad stopped me.
"No honey, it's dangerous. I don't want you going there, but don't worry, Alvin is an expert. He'll make sure that everything works out," he said.
"But Brad thinks that he's a hunter. What if he-"
"Call him Natalie and tell him," he said and then he looked at his watch.
"Do you want lunch or something? Maybe I can get you some Sushi?" My dad asked me. I shook my head.
"No dad. I'm alright," I said with tears of joy in my eyes.
"Are you sure? Oh, sweetie, don't worry. Everything's going to be okay," he said and he kissed me in the cheek.
"Thank you dad... so much," I replied.
"Sure honey. I gotta go to a meeting right now, but if you need anything just let me know," he said. I shook my head.
"No dad. I don't need anything. Everything is perfect now," I replied. My dad kissed me on the forehead and left the office. I called Brad and told him everything. At first he was hesitant to believe me, but I convinced him and he decided to trust me.
"What's his address?" Alvin asked me. I wrote down in a piece of paper.
"I hope you forgive me for pulling the gun on you, but your dad told me to play the part," he said.
"And you played it very well. If all goes well I'll tell him to give you a raise," I told him. Alvin high fived me.
"That would be awesome. Do you want me to take you home?" He asked me and I shook my head.
"No. I'm good. I'll just call my friend. I'm taking my driver's license tomorrow," I told him.
"The best of luck," he said and I nodded. Alvin left the office and I called Tamara.
