My brain doesn't know me
Awsten was gay.
Chloe was straight.
Geoff wasn't sure.
He labelled himself as straight as he was worried that if he said differently his girlfriend would leave him. Geoff loved Chloe and he had only ever dated girls yet lately he had his eyes on someone else.
Awsten liked to mess with people and act like a slut but he really wasn't. He had a boyfriend and absolutely adored him, the feeling was, thankfully, mutual. However his catchphrase was: if you're questioning, let me blow you. Chances are, you're not.
Awsten's best friend kept begging him to change it or at least not say it in polite company but the blue boy refused. "Hell no, I like my catchphrase Otto and if you don't then that's your problem." Otto always rolled his eyes and changed the subject.
Awsten was sat with said friend at lunch when it happened. Patty told him he was leaving. "Where are you going?"
"England." Patty whispered. "But that's a different country! That's on the other side of the world!" Awsten yelled. "Babe please calm down."
"No Patty I will not calm down! How the Hell will we manage this?"
"We won't." The blonde told him. "What do you mean?" Awsten knew already but he wanted Patty to say it. If it was gonna happen then he wanted someone there to hold him while he cried.
"I'm saying a long distance relationship won't work with us. Not this amount of distance. We both have school and we're both super busy so, I think it's best if we broke up." Patty finished, his eyes glistening with unshed tears.
Awsten nodded, head bent down so Patty couldn't see the pain he was feeling. "I'm so sorry Aws, I love you so much." Patty pulled him into a hug and tried to hold back his tears. Awsten just hugged him back, too numb to process everything. "I love you." The blonde kissed Awsten one last time before leaving.
Luckily Otto was there and knew exactly what his best friend needed. In seconds he was by Awsten's side and wrapping his arms around the small boy as he cried, his little blue heart lying in pieces at the bottom of his ribcage, balance precariously on the bones.
At the other side of the school, Geoff had exited the building and was walking to the bleachers to sit with his usual group of friends. Were they his friends? Not really. They were Chloe's friends and only put up with him because she did.
But not for much longer.
The brunette took his usual seat next to Chloe. She stopped chatting and turned to him.
"Geoff, we need to talk." He gulped. He knew where this was going. "I just want you to know that it's not you, it's me but I think we should just be friends. I did love you, I really did but I'm just not feeling it anymore." She really was using all the clichés.
"She's cheating on ya'," one of her fake ass friends shouted, "we all knew she could do better than a gay retard like you." The table erupted with laughter. Geoff looked at Chloe but she'd turned away, refusing to say anything else. Suddenly Geoff felt cold. She's cheating on ya'.
She doesn't care about you.
Gay retard.
She doesn't love you.
She doesn't want you.
You're worthless.
Pathetic.
Shut up! Geoff stood up and ran back towards the school, ignoring the jeers behind him. Chloe was cheating on him.
After everything he had been through, she was there. She was there for every panic attack, every relapse, everytime he fell back into his depressive state. She was there when his Mom had died and then she was gone.
Crying was like a second nature to Geoff so he wasn't surprised when the tears started to fall as he entered the music room. The brunette was done. He was done with everything, life in particular. He couldn't do it anymore. His anchor had let go and he was left alone. Chloe was gone and no one could save him.
Gay retard.
He wasn't a retard. That's a horrible word and he fucking hated it. But he still wasn't sure about his sexuality. It had been bothering him for a while. He knew he would be accepted at home but as soon as he met Awsten Knight he'd started freaking out.
He would lock himself in his room every day, telling himself he was straight and that he wasn't gay. He would spend nights staring at models and call Chloe all the time. It never worked. Yes he liked girls but his mind kept wandering to other places.
Everytime he was with Chloe he would often wish it was someone else underneath him. He would often wish it wasn't a girl underneath him. He wanted to walk down the street but not be with his girlfriend. He didn't always want to kiss his girlfriend. He wanted a boyfriend. He wanted Awsten.
And that's what fucked him up. He couldn't get Awsten out his head but he didn't want Awsten in there in the first place.
Confused and stressed the first thing Geoff did was pick up a guitar. He needed to play one last time. One last time before he went to sleep. Geoff wasn't able to carry on with anything. He had it all planned out, he knew how to carry it out without someone finding him.
But Geoff wasn't alone. There was someone else there. They were also playing guitar and they were having very similar thoughts, not that either of them knew it.
"Awsten?"
"Hey Geoff." Awsten put down the guitar. Geoff took a seat opposite the smaller boy and looked at the person who had interrupted his thoughts.
"Are you Ok?" Geoff asked, noticing Awsten's red puffy eyes. "I could ask you the same thing."
"My girlfriend just broke up with me." The brunette told him. Awsten wasn't sure why, but he smiled at this. "Join the club." Geoff laughed which made Awsten smile even more.
The two had met in maths class and were both friends with Otto so they already had a mutual friend. Whenever Otto was bored and wanted to piss about he would call Awsten and Geoff. Naturally this led to a beautiful friendship between the three and for Geoff, a lot of confusion.
Awsten felt confused too. Here he was sitting heartbroken and alone but underneath all that he felt something towards the older boy in front of him.
Geoff smiled at him and tucked a lock of hair behind his ear. He looked sexy as Hell and Awsten's mind went to dark places.
Fuck it, what's the worst that could happen? Awsten thought. In a moment of panic the boy closed his eyes and pressed his lips to the brunette's but what surprised him the most was that, without hesitation, Geoff kissed back.
Maybe that one kiss was what they both needed. Maybe that one kiss was able to pick the pieces of their broken hearts up and together they were able to mend them. Together they could be fixed and together they could stay alive.
