Eternally Yours
Across the shiny white square, two thick, blood red lines ran in an 'x' formation. Another day, another year.
It had been five years. Five years since they met, five years since that mark burned itself into their skin.
A blue haired man sat up, the covers falling around his naked body.
"Happy five years." Awsten whispered to his husband who sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the calender as it marked off another day.
"Happy five years." Geoff murmered. He turned around and crawled over to his blue lover. Geoff captured Awsten's lips in a soft loving kiss.
Geoff's hands went around Awsten's waist, pulling him closer. There was no lust in the kiss, no sexual passion or hints of anything more. Just love, pure and everlasting love.
The brunette broke the kiss and rested his forehead against Awsten's, hugging him tightly. "I love you Awsie."
"Love you too."
They stayed in a loving embrace, silence covered them like a blanket.
Awsten's leg started to fall asleep and he hated to ruin the moment but it was either that or one of his limbs would have to be amputated.
Carefully and with precision Awsten wriggled out of Geoff's grip and stood up with a wince. Geoff watched as Awsten hobbled around the room in an attempt to get the blood flowing again.
"What do you want to do today?" Geoff asked from the middle of the bed.
"I was...ow...thinking we could...ow...go back to where we had our...ow...first date."
"That sounds like a great idea sweetheart. How are you feeling?"
"Tired, sore and my leg hurts." Awsten pouted, hobbling back over to the bed. Geoff grinned. "Well at least we know the leg isn't my fault." He winked.
Awsten glared at his husband but it softened quickly. How could he be mad at an angel? Especially when his bare body has been presented to him. Awsten climbed onto Geoff's lap and kissed him deeply.
"As much as I'm enjoying this, if we keep going we won't have as long out." Geoff said, biting back a moan as Awsten's lips moved to his neck.
"Who needs to go outside when we can just stay in and invent our own kind of fun?"
"Well first of all we didn't invent sex," Geoff pointed out much to Awsten's dismay, "and you were the one that suggested we went out anyway."
Awsten groaned and flopped down next to Geoff. "Goddamn! I hate when I say smart things."
"You're an idiot." Geoff laughed. He got some boxers out of a drawer and chose a pair of simple black skinny jeans to cover them.
"Why are you covering your pretty ass?" Awsten pouted.
"Because I don't think people would appreciate me waking around naked." Geoff told him. "Fuck them, I wanna see it."
"Maybe later."
"I can't wait until later!"
"Shut up and get dressed."
-
Bright rays shone through showers of diamond droplets, casting rainbows on the stone wall encasing the feature. Passers by flicked coins into the shallow depths of the stone statues, wishing for impossible things. Children ran around it, screaming like mad men and stealing the coins, stealing the wishes in an attempt to have them as their own.
Hand in hand, Awsten and Geoff meandered through the park until they reached the fountain. In unison they sat on the wall. They both looked down into the water only to see their reflection staring back.
"You know, we should do this more often." The brunette mused, still looking down.
"What, look into water?" Awsten said incredulously.
"No, go outside you fucknugget."
"I'm not a fucknugget!"
"You are the biggest fucknugget I know."
"Haha Geoff you married a fucknugget."
"I know. I wouldn't have it any other way." Geoff said, looking away from Awsten's reflection to the real Awsten. He leant in for a kiss but two loud bangs echoed around the area.
Nearby a woman screamed as the man next to her dropped like a stone, blood flowing out of a deep hole in his brain.
Geoff leapt into action, throwing himself down and pulling Awsten with him. He tried his hardest to shield his lover whilst also looking for an escape route or at least see who was shooting at them.
Four more shots rang out followed by another six. Screams filled the air mingling with the cries of despair and sorrow. "Awsten? We have to try and crawl over to the tree. I think the shooter is across from us now but if we stay low we might be able to escape. I want to help people but we can't do that if we can't save ourselves. We're no use to anyone if we're dead."
The brunette started to shuffle forward but turned to check Awsten was following him.
He wasn't.
Instead he was flat on the ground with his hands pressed against his stomach. Crimson blossomed through his fingers, spreading across his hands and torso. It dripped onto the ground, creating a puddle around him.
"Awsten!" Geoff yelled not caring if anyone heard him. People were shouting and screaming all over the place, his one yell didn't matter.
In a flash Geoff was by his side pressing his hands over the wound to try and stop the blood flow. Awsten lifted a weak and sticky hand to Geoff's face.
"You're still so beautiful," he murmered, "your eyes are so blue, your smile is still so dazzling. You're so amazing Gee. I'm glad I got to spend the rest of my life with you. It's been good."
"Don't say that. You're going to be ok, were gonna get you out of here and go home. I promise." Tears threatened to spill.
Awsten smiled sadly and swallowed. "Don't make promises you can't keep." His dual toned eyes darkened and a lone tear spilled down his cheek. Geoff leant down and their lips fused together. This kiss was full of love and last wishes. It conveyed a message. One last time.
"I love you Geoff."
"I love y-" Awsten's eyes fluttered shut; his heart beat one final time before Geoff could finish.
"You too." He said sadly. With his husband limp in his arms Geoff rested his forehead against Awsten's and let the tears flow. He didn't care if they ended up on his face, Awsten was dead. He wouldn't be able to feel it.
Hell, Geoff couldn't feel anything. He was numb except for the one dull ache in his chest. The hole where his heart should've been.
Unable to support Awsten's weight any longer, Geoff set him down on the ground away from the puddle of blood. He was one more body, one more face among many that had been sacrificed in that terrible incident. An incident that left many broken and lost.
The dark mark on Geoff's wrist burned and glowed sending a searing pain through his arm before fading into a pale white scar.
His soulmate, his life line, his one true love was gone. There would never be another like him, there could never be another. No one could ever replace Awsten.
One last time Geoff looked down at the water but only his reflection looked back. There was no bright eyed, blue haired boy next to him. Just him. Geoff slipped the titanium ring off Awsten's finger and tossed it into the pool. He closed his eyes and wished. He wished for the impossible.
Across the crystal pool, two thick, blood red lines ran through it in an 'x' formation.
One last day, one last year.
It had been five years. Five years since they first met, five years since that mark burned itself into their wrist.
It had been five minutes since a beautiful bond had been severed. Five minutes since beautiful hearts had been broken, five minutes since beautiful lives had been lost.
