"I have no friends." Geoff rolled his eyes and punched his best friends shoulder lightly. "Yes you do! You have me, you have Patty, you have Jawn, Travis and Grace. That's enough right?"

"I don't really have Grace anymore. Ever since Otto...we haven't really spoken." A sudden overwhelming urge to throw himself off a bridge washed over Awsten.

He tried to before but he was stopped. By Geoff. Geoff had just been walking past and saw the small broken boy crying and leaning over the side of a bridge. If he'd let go he would've been splattered onto the freeway. Using words and encouragement he managed to coax Awsten over and away from the edge and took him home. Their friendship blossomed from there.

"I have fucking English lit homework still. When's it due in for?" Awsten asked. Geoff looked at his wrist and tilted his head to the side.

"Um fifth."

"What! That's in an hour are you fucking kidding me? Have you done it?"

Geoff shook his head and laughed. "You know I never do it." The brunette jumped down off the table and grabbed his bag. "Come on, we'll do it in the library like we always do."

Everytime the blue boy looked at Geoff he was reminded of when they first met. It wasn't his fault, he thought it was the only way he could deal with the heart breaking pain.

If Otto could do it then why couldn't he?

"Awsten honey can I talk to you?" The boy looked up when his Mom entered the room. "Yeah, sure. What's up?"

"I've just had a call from Otto's Mom. I don't know how to say this but...sweetie I'm so sorry." She walked over to his bed and hugged him tightly. "He's gone." She whispered.

Awsten's world ended.

Everything he loved was gone. Otto was gone. The one person that kept him alive, made him smile everyday just by being there. Otto made Awsten feel loved and without him the blue boy was nothing. The blue boy was a gloom boy.

"I can't do this anymore." Shaking hands gripped the metal. Below, cars and vans sped along the wide stretch of tarmac. Tears fell, dropping onto passing cars. Drivers passed it off as a few raindrops which was a bit unusual for a clear summers day. The world works in mysterious ways.

"Just do it. Stop being a pussy and just do it." He whispered to himself.

Inhale.

The boy swung one leg over.

Exhale.

Inhale.

And the other.

Exhale.

Inhale.

He let go. A hand grabbed his. One hand flew back to the railing and the other gripped the strangers. The brunette pulled the boy with unusual eyes over the edge, letting the younger pull himself over most of the way.

Geoff held Awsten as he cried and screamed and shook. He held him as he sobbed and shouted and shivered. All this time he held him until there was no tears left to cry, no voice left to scream and Awsten was warm, so warm.

"It's ok, you're ok. I've got you."

"Today was a fucking nightmare." Awsten flung his bag across the room and flopped backwards onto his bed. "Yeah but you got through it though which is an achievement." Luckily for Awsten, Geoff was nice and cared so he brought up their glasses and plates. Awsten sat up and grabbed his juice, chugging it quickly while Geoff neatly placed his bag next to Awsten's discared and frankly abused bag.

"God I needed that." Awsten sighed happily. "Be careful Aws, you don't wanna offend any people who may be religious."

"Ok first of all, we're the only two people in here and second of all if there's a God then baby she don't mind. Anyway, yes I got through today but I got a fucking detention."

"That's your fault for not doing the homework." Geoff pointed out eating a couple of raspberries. "True but you didn't fucking help me because you're useless." Awsten replied.

"Rude."

The two sat and ate in a comfortable silence for a few minutes until Geoff started laughing. "What's so funny?"

"You look like a blueberry with your blue hair." His laughter grew louder and he clutched his stomach. "Oh my God you're a blue boy. You're a blueberry. That's the funniest shit I've thought of all day." Awsten watched his best friend with genuine concern.

"How are you feeling?" Geoff randomly asked once he'd stopped laughing. "I'm feeling fine how are you feeling? Look up."

"I'm good but what I meant was, how are you feel-"

"Look up." Geoff looked up and saw a raspberry millimetres from his face. He opened his mouth and Awsten dropped it. "How are you feeling about Otto? How are you doing?"

Awsten put down the empty plate and crossed his legs. "I'm...I'm sad but I'm doing better now you're here. God what would've happened if you weren't there? I..I can't even think about it."

It made him shiver at the very thought. Geoff caught his hand. He saved him. He made a friend, someone that really cared. That's what he needed.

Awsten went to place his hand on Geoff's but his hand went straight through. "What the fuck?" He looked up to see a faint smile on Geoff's face, key word being faint. "Geoff what's happening?"

"I'm fading Aws."

"What do you mean?"

"You made me, you needed me to help you through the pain you were feeling and I was here. Now you're ok, you've pulled through." Geoff reached up and tried to caress Awsten's cheek but his hand didn't exist. His hand wasn't there.

"But you saved me, you grabbed my hand and pulled me back and...what?"

"No Aws, you grabbed the railing. You still had one hand on it and got scared. You pulled yourself over and you saved yourself. You've gotten through it on your own and now you don't need me."

"No!" Awsten cried. "No you're wrong, Gee. I do need you. I need you so much. I love you!" Tears streamed down his face as he watched Geoff's arms, then legs disappear. "I love you too."

Then his stomach and torso was gone. "I look like I'm wearing an invisibility cloak. I look like Harry Potter. I'm just a floating head." Geoff laughed and smiled. He smiled with lips. Very real looking lips. They looked soft and sweet and so very inviting.

Awsten closed his eyes and leaned in. But there was nothing there.

Carefully he reopened them and looked at an empty room. There was only one empty glass, only one empty plate and only one school bag.

There was no sign of Geoff but Awsten knew he wasn't alone. He never had been.
