Calm.
Seated on a brown leather, cat hair-covered sofa, Awsten sat with his eyes fixated on the window. Behind the glass, icy rain battered the two-storey house. Dimly lit streetlights formed a pathway to the stars where they flickered against the inky night sky.
Harsh winds battered the building and thunder rumbled somewhere in the distance. The clock adjacent to him ticked by slowly. Each second inched painstakingly closer to the hour.
One minute.
Apart from the raging storm and the crackle of the soft fire in the corner, there was minimal sound.
Awsten inhaled deeply and let his eyelids flicker shut. A few long moments passed before a rhythmic bang reverberated around the walls.
His head turned to face the living room door which he had left ajar. In the hallway, the front door opened then hastily closed to shut out the pelting rain. Awsten's eyes were still covered by his heavy lids and he was heavily relying on his ears to pick up every sound.
Footsteps sounded on the creaking floors, heading towards the living room. Awsten heard the door open and a soft voice call his name yet his eyes remained closed. The person coughed, throaty and sharp sounding.
He felt the sofa sink next to him and the glow from the fire darken a little as his guest sat down. "Awsten?" The purple haired boy turned his head back to face the window and let his eyes open gradually.
A hot, clammy hand slipped into his, clasping them together. Although it was a minor gesture, the smallest touch brought a smile to his face.
"Awsten?" The voice asked again. "Are you ok?"
Awsten nodded and looked down at their intertwining fingers. "Yeah, I'm ok. Are you? You sound ill."
"I'm ok, just a little cold."
More thunder erupted from outside and the younger mans eyes widened. The brunette next to him squeezed his hand and wrapped an arm around his waist. Geoff turned his head to the side to cough, trying to keep it from getting progressively worse.
The shit storm outside continued, making the house feel like a secluded bubble. They were safe inside.
"It's just a storm. All storms pass." Awsten looked at his lover and shook his head. "Not all storms."
Geoff frowned; he had never seen the younger man so sad. Geoff rested his head on his boyfriend's shoulder, his floppy hair tickling his neck.
They sat still, relishing in the moment and the time they spent together. After a while Geoff lifted his head up.
"Kiss me like you miss me." He whispered. Awsten raised an eyebrow. "Well come here then."
Geoff wasted no time and wrapped his arms and legs around his boyfriend, clinging to him as their lips locked. Awsten pushed Geoff down onto the couch without breaking the kiss.
Their tongues danced, spinning and sliding all over. Granted it looked quite messy but God did it feel good. It was different. Both men knew it was. It felt different. Electricity skimmed over their skin, sparks flying.
Awsten's fingers found the hem of Geoff's shirt, bringing it up and exposing the soft, pale flesh beneath. He brought the shirt off and up, cutting off the kiss.
Geoff looked into Awsten's dual toned eyes and knew for the first time with total confidence how he felt. Awsten leaned down to re-connect their lips but Geoff stopped him with a warm finger.
"There's something I need to tell you before another word is spoken." The brunette panted. "I've taken time to think and now I know. I had always thought I knew but now I'm sure."
Above him, Awsten waited. Geoff bit his lips before he blurted out his confession.
"I am so in love with you."
The clock on the wall stopped. The ice rain froze and the crimson flames flickered. Nothing else needed to be said. Nothing else mattered.
In this moment where time stood still there was just Awsten and Geoff. Because Awsten too had come to the realisation that the overwhelming emotion he had whenever the brunette was around, was something bigger than himself.
Love.
Their love became power. Power to banish the dark and bring forth the light. To turn the hands of time back and restart the clock. To extinguish the frail sparks and create an explosion.
Awsten took in Geoff's soft plump lips, the colour in his cheeks, the softness in his skin and the life in his eyes.
He wanted him and only him. No one else. Geoff was his. Forever.
Awsten dropped Geoff's shirt and slid his hands up to his lovers neck.
"I love you." Geoff whispered.
"I know." Awsten replied. He squeezed. All his past thoughts, all his previous emotions and all his pain flooded his brain and surged down his arms into his hands.
With each memory more pressure was applied. Geoff did not struggle, letting it happen as Awsten was far stronger than himself.
When him and Geoff first met. When he made Geoff laugh for the first time. Their first date, their first kiss, when they first made love. The first sleepless nights where internal battles could not be won. When Awsten had fought with his brain and his heart. Fought with what he had been taught was wrong but felt so right.
Laughed the blue eyes without a stain. No pain felt he, I am quite sure he felt no pain. Eventually the surge ebbed away and the wave became a ripple.
Awsten leaned down and pressed a chaste kiss to Geoff's puckered lips. Once more, he entwined their fingers and laid down his head on Geoff's exposed chest.
Love floated in the air, surrounded by the strong presence of Geoff's lingering spirit.
The rain continued to fall, the clock continued to tick and the flames continued to burn.
Inside their bubble nothing changed. They stayed close together, wrapped in each other's embrace. His darling one wish had been heard and God had not yet said a word.
"I'm surrounded by the ghost of you. To love is to be alive and I have nothing but love in my heart for you."
Geoff was his. Forever.
