Chapter Fifteen

All night while Sheena slept peacefully beside me, I started to make calls to start arranging the wedding for the following day. Although I knew we couldn’t have the big white wedding that we had already planned for, I was going to make sure that it was as close to it as I could get. After calling Lee and a few of our other friends, the wedding was on the way. Even a few of the doctors and nurses had heard the news and had popped in to ask if they could help.

After one of the doctors had persuaded the hospital management to let us use their private gardens for the ceremony excitement started to bubble up inside me. The off duty nurses that had offered to help, they had agreed to get the garden ready, they had asked me what Sheena’s favourite flowers and colours where, that brought me back to the night we had discussed our future wedding. After snapping out of my happy thoughts, I told them everything they needed to know. I also gave them Cherelle’s phone number so they could get hold of her to get more advice if they needed it.

All the plans for our wedding where going well so far and all that seemed to be left now were Sheena’s and Destiny’s dress. Cherelle had already offered to get Sheena her dress and something nice for Destiny to wear too, so I shoved that aside and try to think of anything else that needed to be arranged. After making, a few more calls everything was now in place, the courts where closed for me to sort out the marriage license but luckily for me I knew a judge, which with so much excitement he gladly accepted to have it ready for us. It was now four am and my eyes starting to get heavy from so many sleepless nights. Lying back and snuggling closer into Sheena’s warm body I tried to get some sleep, but not before taking one more quick glance at Destiny. Staring at Destiny asleep in her crib melted my heart, there is just know words to explain my love for her.

Closing my eyes I tried to get some sleep, however, I started thinking about all the good officers we had lost and especially the sergeant. Flashes of the so-called war and everything that has been happening to both Sheena and me kept going through my brain making it impossible for me to sleep. Visions from Sheena giving birth to us under attack along with everything else that had happened sent cold shivers through me. It was as if I was reliving it all over again. The one and only thing that keeps me going through all of this is my true love for Sheena. 

My phone rang startling me from my inner thoughts. Quickly answering it so that it wouldn’t wake Sheena or Destiny up relief flooded through me as I heard his voice. It was my sergeant, hearing his voice eased me, as the last I heard he ‘had been shot down but was not critical. I owed our lives to that man and right then I made a promise to myself that I will always be in dept for all he had done for us. As he was the only person on the force that had believed me and helped me, track Sheena’s family down. Without his help, I don’t think we would be lying here right now as more than likely we would be dead with our bodies dumped somewhere that no one would ever find them. “Well that’s nice I get shot save my friend and his families lives and he doesn’t even speak to me.” He teased into the phone. “Hey Sarg,” I replied laughing, “How are you doing?” I asked all laughing pushed aside and replaced with worry. “I’m fine but how come I haven’t had an invite yet, hey?” this man always seemed to amaze me. He had just been shot and more than likely not just once either. Here he is joking and messing with me like nothing has happened. I could not help but laugh at him, “because I kept the best till last” I replied laughing. The line went completely silent for a while, “Sergeant” I called into the phone with worry. “Sorry Damon what did you say?” he asked sounding chocked up for some reason. “Well I said I’ve saved the best till last, as I want you to be the one to give Sheena away as I know that is what she will want more than anything.” I said truthfully. The line went dead again but this time I didn’t worry as I could hear him faintly in the background. “Wow, well I wasn’t expecting that,” he said. I could tell from his voice alone he was so overwhelmed. Hearing how shocked and excited he was, put the biggest smile on my face. “Well what do you say?” I asked again. “YES... I mean I would be honoured to be the man who gives her away, although I would like to keep her to myself….hmm” he replied laughing. Feeling happy he was back to his joking and teasing self, I laughed along with him. Once sobering up “Well I will text you in the morning to let you know the times and what’s what ok?” , “yeah sounds good to me, now get some sleep we cant have the groom falling asleep at his own wedding now can we.”  He laughed loudly into the phone. “David, Thank you, without your help I would not be planning a wedding right now, you would probably be out looking for our bodies” feeling all chocked up as a tear slid down my face I took a deep breath “I owe you my life and I will never forget what you have done for me and my family.” I told him in all honestly. “No Damon you have always been my best officer and you have always been there for me no matter what and for that I am happy that I could finally repay you for all of your hard work.” As I was about to say bye and hang up he cut me off.  “Damon, it was nice hearing you for once calling me by my first name.” he stated. “Well D a v I d, I will talk to you more tomorrow, night” I replied while making sure I dragged his name out.

Awaking to the blinding sunlight that was shinning into the room, I pulled the blankets over my head, as I needed more sleep. “WAKEY wakey rise and shine” a chorus of much too awake chirpy people sang. “Go away I need more sleep.” I shouted while covering my ears with my hands so I could block their voices out. Then all of a sudden, I was lying in bed with no sheets, as someone had ripped them off me. Lifting my self so I was now sitting up in my bed, I was just about to give whoever it was, that was taking me away from my much-needed sleep a right going over. Well that was until I seen Tony Fergal, Lee and David all dressed in there tuckcidos standing at the end of my bed. Rubbing my eyes, I remembered that today is the day I have been waiting for, for so long. Looking down at my watch “DAMN” I shouted as I leaped out of the bed, while totally forgetting where I was as well as remembering they where still in my room. My face felt as if it was on fire as I blushed, quickly reaching out for the sheet I grabbed it and wrapped it around my very naked body. “Oh my god, this lot is never going to let me live this down,” I thought to myself as I sat back on the bed. I had never felt so embarrassed in my entire life, as all of my friends and co-workers have now seen me in my birthday suit. Covering my bright red face up with my hands, I could hear them all laughing there heads off. “It’s not funny, get out” I screamed out however, not with anger though but through pure embarrassment. I watched them all leave the room through my parted fingers until I saw the door closing behind them. I repeatedly cursed to myself as I got dressed.

A little while later after I had my embarrassment under control I stepped out of the room, only to be confronted by a laughing group of friends. I couldn’t help thinking that if this was one of them I would be laughing. Well being honest, I probably would be giving him a really hard time right about now, I bust out laughing joining in with them all.

Lee came up to me, then slapping on the back  “come on man its your wedding day, I don’t think Sheena would be that impressed with you if she knew that where wasting time showing off your body to your friends instead of getting dressed.” I couldn’t help but laugh as he stood there wiggling his eyebrows.” Come on I’m ready but less of the jokes in front of Sheena ok, as I know she will only tease me more than all of you put together” soon as the words left my mouth all of them where on the floor in hysterics. Damon shut your mouth I told myself as I watched them roll around the floor laughing.

Walking out of the hospitals bathroom they looked as if they where going to wet them selves, the way they where bouncing from one foot the other. “Hey guys” I greeted them. “Come on everyone is waiting for us” Fergal shouted while grabbing hold of my arm and started dragging me along the corridor. “Guys it’s like you lot are getting married, will you all calm down, your acting like a bunch of women.” I stated as they where stressing out to the max. Well this is going to be fun I said to myself as we walked out of the staff’s entrance.

Stopping, I looked up at my closest friends who where stood in front of me. I started to thank them for everything they had done for Sheena; and I, while also letting them know how much they truly meant to me, well to us. The guys managed to let me finish my little speech before they started joking around again. Between their mock crying, and their hands placed over there hearts, I couldn’t help but laugh at them.

While we started to make our way around the back of the hospital where the private gardens were, I started to feel the nervousness creep up on me. God please don’t let me get sick or even worse faint, I silently prayed.
