Part 5

I know it's odd, but I'm gonna switch to the 3rd POV for the remainder of the story. It's just easier for me to write, and I wanna keep going with this book. Sorry if the transition is awkward.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pyrrha awoke to a very loud purring, and opened one eye just enough to see a little pink nose sniffing at her cheek. She smiled and placed her finger on Omelette's nose, causing the cat to recoil as he was booped back.
Pyrrha heard a soft groan, and looked down, discovering Y/N's head in her lap, dangerously close to...
Pyrrha's face turned redder than her hair, and she tried to move just enough to prevent Y/N from opening his eyes and seeing her undergarments. When she felt she had succeeded, Pyrrha relaxed.
Y/N groaned softly, then rolled away from Pyrrha. Pyrrha felt strangely disappointed by this, and pulled the boy back. Before she knew it, she was singing softly to herself while her fingers roamed through his hair.
Pyrrha placed her hand on Y/N's face and gently stroked his cheek, before realizing that it was cold. Slightly concerned, Pyrrha grabbed another blanket and draped it over Y/N.
After ensuring that he should be warming up, Pyrrha combed her fingers through Y/N's hair, feeling strangely addicted to the gesture. The girl placed her hand on Y/N's cheek again, only to find that, if anything, he had gotten colder. Y/N made no sounds, and Pyrrha swore that he wasn't breathing.
Pyrrha moved her hand over Y/N's mouth, and found that the boy was not, in fact, breathing. He had no pulse either.
Pyrrha immediately stood up, attempting to start the boy's heart once more. Right as she placed her hands on his chest, however, Y/N's eyes snapped open, his irises glowing with a harsh green light before they returned to their normal E/C.
Pyrrha sighed in relief, placing her forehead on Y/N's chest, hearing his heartbeat...and promptly realized his heart wasn't beating, despite the boy moving around.
"Morning, honey..." Y/N mumbled, rubbing his eyes. When he looked at Pyrrha, his pale cheeks turned bright pink, and he buried his face in his hands.
Pyrrha laughed at him, even though her cheeks were dusted with pink as well.
Suddenly, Y/N began coughing violently. Pyrrha moved to help the boy, but found herself abruptly removed from the dorm room by a large man who was covered in a dark cloak.
The door was slammed shut, and Pyrrha could hear Y/N's wet coughing echo through the otherwise silent room. Pyrrha tried to force the door open, but it wouldn't budge. She resorted to beating on the door, screaming for Y/N to let her in. Y/N's coughing only increased in intensity, turning into a wet hacking, like the boy was vomiting and coughing something up.
Suddenly, Y/N did vomit, and the scent of blood assaulted Pyrrha's nose. She renewed her efforts to break into the room, only managing to dislocate her shoulder. She was only stopped by Yang's hand on her shoulder.
"Pyrrha, stop! You'll wake everyone up!" Yang yawned. Her eyes widened when Y/N threw up again, and his wet coughs reached her ears. Yang moved Pyrrha out of the way, and punched the door open.
Both girls rushed into the room, and found Y/N on the floor, curled up next to a puddle of vomit, blood, and some kind of black sludge. He wasn't moving.
Pyrrha lifted the boy up, bridal style, ignoring the pain in her shoulder. Y/N was very light.
Pyrrha put her hand on Y/N's neck, checking for a pulse. His skin had an incredibly unhealthy pallor to it, and he wasn't breathing. No pulse, no breathing, no movement. Yang and Pyrrha raced to the infirmary, carrying the dying boy.
"He's not dead!!!!! He will be OK. He has to be.." Pyrrha shouted at a nurse. Y/N groaned.
"S-stop yelling....you're too loud, Pyrrha...." Y/N groaned, turning over in his cot. Whispers filled his head, but Y/N didn't really care. He was just so tired...
He was awakened once more by Pyrrha practically jumping on him and trying to kill him with a hug.
"Y/N!!!! Oh, God, I was so worried!!!" Pyrrha exclaimed. Pyrrha pulled away from Y/N, and for a moment, everything was alright. Pyrrha and Y/N locked eyes, and it felt like the whole world was just the two of them. Pyrrha and Y/N's faces drew closer ever so slightly, and then-
"Y/N!!!!!!!" Audrey shouted, breaking the spell. The boy gave his teammate a thumbs up, and looked at the girl who still had her hands on his chest.
Pyrrha sent a gentle smile to Y/N, and the boy smiled back, his cheeks reddening. Pyrrha and Y/N then realized how close they were, and the girl moved herself off of the boy, leaving the boy with the feeling of Pyrrha's receding warmth, while Pyrrha was left with a feeling of frustration that they had been interrupted.
As the young woman moved to excuse herself, a tiny undead creature tugged at her sock, pointing to Y/N. The little creature grabbed Pyrrha's shoelace and attempted to lead her back to the boy, who sent a little grin her way.
Pyrrha approached Y/N, who grabbed her hand and pressed it to his cheek. He sighed in relief when her warmth spread from the spot, slowly heating his cold skin.
"Mmmmm...soft and warm..." Y/N mumbled, a sleepy grin dancing on his lips as sleep overtook the boy.
And Pyrrha sat by his side all night, her warmth keeping the nightmares away. For the first time in almost seven years, Y/N slept peacefully through the night.
....
When Pyrrha woke up, she felt cool fingers combing through her hair. Y/N brokenly hummed a lullaby to himself, his fingers beginning to shake.
"Dad used to tell me this was what it felt like whenever he was with mom, back in the day..." The boy mumbled to himself. He was silent for a long time, and then Pyrrha felt something wet drop onto her face. And then another. Then, quiet little whimpers as Y/N cried.
Pyrrha reached up and placed her hand on Y/N's cheek to comfort the crying boy, only for him to flinch away from her touch like it was a hot iron.
"I need you to go away, Pyrrha;" Y/N whispered. "But I don't want to be alone. Will you stay with me until I go away?"
Pyrrha shot upright, her gaze locking onto Y/N's tired, worn-out expression. His skin and flesh had begun to crumble where Pyrrha had touched the boy's cheek, his own body betraying his wishes to die with a complete body.
When her mind finally realized what was happening, Pyrrha began screaming for the nurse. A nurse arrived shortly afterward, followed by multiple students, teams RWBY and JN-R among them.
Y/N hid his face as a nurse lead him from the room, leaving a hysterical Pyrrha sitting on his bed, screaming.
"Bring him back!" the Spartan cried as Jaune and Nora held her back. Eventually, the girl collapsed onto the ground, sobbing into her palms. She made no move to escape as her teammates and friends gently took her back to Y/N's dorm room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The next day, Y/N's funeral was held. His casket was kept open, per his mother's request.

Pyrrha was among the last to come up to pay their respects. All day she had vehemently denied the truth about Y/N's death, but Pyrrha knew that she'd need to accept it eventually. She put her hand on Y/N's chest for one final time, and placed a gentle kiss on his cold lips.

"I never got to say this, but I...I love you, Y/N L/N. And I'll love you even after death." Pyrrha whispered. She maintained her composure just long enough to get back to her seat, where she promptly broke down weeping.

Normally, today would be a normal day. The weather was beautiful, the birds were singing, and students should have been roaming the grounds. Normally, everyone would have gone about their lives. CRDL would be bullying some poor Faunus in the library, other teams would be sparring, while others slept in.

Today, however, even Team CRDL was silent and solemn. Ghostly whispers filled the area as hundreds of spirits came to pay their own respects to Y/N, the one person who had spoken to them after death.

Finally, a large spirit that bore a striking resemblance to the boy before everyone stepped before them.

"Here lies my son, Y/N L/N. He cared more for the lowliest spirit than the highest of the living. Except for two people. One was his mother. The other was Pyrrha Nikos, the only girl he'd ever loved. The one person he refused to leave. Thank you, Miss Nikos, for trying to give my son a future. I give you a spirits blessing in all things. May you succeed in all things, Spartan. We will watch over you."

And with that, the ghost vanished. Pyrrha raced back to Y/N's room and collapsed on his bed, crying for the boy to come back. She cried and cried for a boy who would never come back.

"Pyrrha...?"
