Is This Where You Wanna Be?

"How do I tell Mark?" I frowned, running a hand through my neon green hair in exasperation. Maybe I could call again? I picked my phone up off the floor from where I had thrown it. Thankfully, nothing seemed broken on it except the case was scratched. "Hey, this is Mark-" "Damn it!" I chucked the phone at my bed. It landed with a thud a foot short of reaching it's destination. I huffed angrily as I retrieved it and gently dropped it on my pillow. A loud banging emanated from my door, echoing around the house. I paused, uncertain if I should open the door, thinking it was another fan coming here personally to wish me well. Reluctantly, I trudged to the door and adopted a nasally voice. "Hello." I wheezed as I pulled the door open slowly. "Hey Jack." I froze, no longer able to even breath. "Hey." I choked out. Guilt flooded over me like a wave. Unable to stop myself, I flung my arms around the person standing on my doorstep. "Hey Mark." I whispered.

"Hey." I answered in an equally quiet tone. I pulled Jack in close enough that his neon green hair was brushing against my forehead. "Um, come in!" Jack's face turned a scarlet red as he retracted from my embrace and held the door open for me. I nodded in appreciation and wheeled my suitcase in. "Nice place!" I commented. "Thanks." He mumbled. "So," he clapped his hands together and fell back onto the sofa in his living room. He motioned for me to sit beside him. I obediently did as he wanted. "I need to apologize for-" "No you don't." I interrupted him. "What?" He asked, looking slightly taken aback by my interruption. "You don't need to apologize." I repeated with a shrug. "But-" "No buts, I get it, it was just a prank call." The corner of my lips turned up in a small smirk. I was trying very hard to not laugh, but a snort still escaped. At that point we both burst out laughing, tears streaming down our faces. "I got you...so good!" Jack gasped, trying to regain my breath. "I guess you did." I agreed reluctantly, still chuckling slightly. "So, you said there was a new place around here that you thought I should see." "Oh yeah!" Jack jumped off the couch and ran into the kitchen. He came back out waving a pamphlet. "There's this pizza place called Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and they're actually hiring. It's just for a week, but I thought it'd be kind of fun." He handed me the packet. "We'd actually be the first workers." Jack bragged. "Help wanted for cashier, janitor, night guard, and day guard." I read aloud the jobs with a small frown. "No way am I being the janitor." I mumbled under my breath. "Work hours for night guard are from midnight to six and for the others it's six in the evening 'till midnight." Jack stated as he read over my shoulder. His warm, coffee scented breath tickled my ear. "Lets go." I abruptly stood up and strode towards the door. Jack seemed a little put-off, but followed behind me after grabbing the keys to his car off of the kitchen table.

"Welcome to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza!" I announced as we approached the red brick building. Freddy's was small and had only a neon sign in front of the door to advertise it. Nothing else was nearby the pizza place, just highway. "What job are you wanting?" Mark asked as we pulled into the barren parking lot. There was only one other car here. "Probably day guard." I shrugged. "I don't really know. You?" "Night guard sounds pretty cool." Mark opened the door and waved me inside. "Such a gentleman." I gave him a mock bow as I walked through the door. Inside was eight white tables with multi colored party hats placed on top. Behind the table was a large, wooden stage that was lined with red fabric and had big black curtains that were tied back with rope. Overhead hung a paper banner that read "The fun is plenty and the prices fair, only here at Freddy Fazbears". "Are you fine fellows here to find a job?" A guy with a short, brown hair and a brown, bushy beard approached us. He was wearing a light blue shirt and black pants. "Yeah." Mark stepped forward to shake his hand. "I'm Mark and this is my friend Sean." "It's a pleasure to meet the two of you." He smiled warmly as he shook Mark's hand. "My name is Scott Cawthon and I'm your boss." Scott shook my hand. "Now," he clapped his hands together. "What job did you two have in mind?" "I'll be the night guard." Mark blurted. Scott handed him a sheet of paper and pen. "What's this?" Mark scanned the paper warily. "Just a paper stating the rules." Scott assured him. Mark read through the entire paper. Hesitantly, Mark scribbled his name down on the bottom. "Congratulations Mike, you're our night guard!" He beamed and handed Mark a shiny, gold badge that had the face of Freddy on it and the motto underneath. "My name's Mark." Mark protested meekly as he handed him the pen back. "And you?" Scott turned to face me. "I don't really care." I shrugged. "Hmmm," Scott frowned as he studied me. His hazel eyes bore into mine. I shifted uncomfortably and glanced over at Mark. He also seemed a little creeped out. "You look like someone who likes people, is energetic, likes to shout, and is friendly....how 'bout cashier?" Scott produced another paper from the pocket of his black pants. "Alright." I took the paper and pen from him and signed it. "Perfect!" Scott snatched the paper and pen back and tucked them in his pockets. "Work starts tomorrow, but I'll show you around first, just a quick tour." He jogged off. "This place seems kinda weird." Mark whispered to me as we ran to catch up with our boss. "I know." I panted. We finally caught up with him at a cramped room with two metal doors, a desk, an old metal fan, a boxy, black computer, and an ancient looking phone. Scott was leaning back in a black office chair that was rolled up to the desk. His feet was propped up on top of the keyboard. "This is where you'll be working Mike." He gestured at the room. "It's Mark." Mark huffed with a hint of impatience. "I'll let you get used to your working space. Sean-" "Jack." I interrupted him. "Sorry, Jack, I'll take you to your work space." Scott guided me to the entrance. There was a short counter with an electronic cash register and there was merchandise hanging on the wall. "Your job is easy, just take peoples money and give them tokens and also take tickets. Got it?" I nodded. "Good." He shoved a piece of slightly crumpled paper in my hand. "This will tell you how much money it costs for tokens, how many tickets for toys, so on so forth. See you at six." Scott turned on his heel and exited the building. "Oh yeah," He held the door open with his foot and tossed a brass key over his shoulder. I reached up and caught it with one hand. "Don't forget to lock up when you leave." With that, Scott let the glass door close behind him with a bang.

"What's the phone for?" I frowned as I booted the computer up. I dialed in Jack's number, but the phone wouldn't work. "Why is this here?!?" I restrained myself from shoving it off the desk. I pushed the phone back further away from me. "Hello?" A male voice shouted from the phone. I nearly fell out of the office chair. "Hello hello?" He asked again. "Hey?" I answered uncertainly. "Oh hey, welcome to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Now, there's this whole speech I'm supposed to give about the place, ya know, regulations and stuff. Anyway," The man cleared his throat. At that point I left desk and tuned out the guy as I walked over to the doors. Both of them had two buttons, one labeled "light", and the other "door". Slowly, I hit the door button for the right door. It slammed shut, echoing a metallic clang throughout the confined space. I pressed the door button again and the door retracted back, revealing a long, dark hallway. When I hit the light button, the doorway was illuminated. I turned off the light and sat back down at the desk. "...and be careful to use the lights wisely, we kinda have a budget now. Anyway, good luck on your first night!" The message ended with a click. I rolled the office chair over to the door on the left. "I wonder what's down here." I got out of my chair and wandered down the black corridor. "Damn, should've brought a flashlight!" I cursed as I fumbled for my phone. I whipped it out of my jean pocket and activated the flashlight. A narrow beam of light shone down. The floor was black and white checkered tile and the walls were plain black. "Cheerful." I muttered sarcastically. I ended up finding two storage closets, both of which were empty, and a larger room that had a gray, concrete floor and wooden walls. "Wow." I breathed. Over in the center of the room, three figure were slumped against each other, holding each others hand. "Hello?" I gingerly nudged the first shadowy figure with my foot. My flashlight suddenly flickered, then went out. "Come on!" I slapped my phone and hit the power button. A red bar appeared on the screen. "I need to get out of here." I backed away towards the doorway. That was when a furry hand shot out of the darkness and wrapped around my leg.

"Hey Mark, we should-" I walked into the office and halted by the desk. "Mark?" I beckoned. "Mark?" I said a little louder. A scream rang out from the right doorway. "Stop pranking me." I laughed nervously. No response. Shaking slightly, I ran down the hall, occasionally tripping on my own feet. I finally stumbled into a cold, pitch black room. "Mark?" I whispered sharply. Something brushed against my arm. I whirled around, fists raised to fight off whoever or whatever it was. Mark was staring back at me, his face pale. "We need to go. Now." He hissed. I took Mark's hand and dragged him beside me as we took off at full speed back to the office. Behind us, three figures emerged from the darkness. There was an animatronic chocolate brown bear wearing a black top hat and black bow tie. In its hand, a microphone was gripped tightly in his paw. Parts of it was shredded in various places, revealing its exoskeleton. Flanking the bear was a lavender purple and was wearing a red bow tie. The fur looked like it was made out of felt. The bunnies ears were standing up straight and torn slightly. Last was a yellow duck thing wearing a white bib that read "lets eat!". Its beak was open and the bottom half was hanging to the side like it was broken. Inside was two sets of razor sharp teeth. "Faster!" I urged Mark as the animatronics picked up speed. A deep, low chuckle emanated from the bear, causing shivers to run down my spine. My forehead was slick with sweat from exhaustion and pure fear. We ran into the office and closed the metal door. When I looked out the window, they all stared back at me with their lifeless eyes. I tore my gaze away from them and looked at Mark. "Why did you scream?" I sank down on the floor close to where Mark was sitting in the office chair. He sighed and rubbed his face with his hands. His pale pink hair flopped in his eyes. With a smirk, I brushed the hair away. Mark smiled back weakly. "I screamed 'cause one of the animatronics reached out and grabbed my leg. I had my flashlight on my phone, but my phone died and, well, I freaked out...I didn't know they were active." "I didn't know either." I stood back up and looked out the window again. The animatronics were huddled around each other, whispering. I couldn't understand what they were saying at all, it just sounded like squawks and screeches with one garbled noise. "Wait, what time was it when you left and I stayed in here?" Mark glanced over at the time on his still activated computer. 5:59AM. To the side, there was a green power bar that read that there was 56% of power left. "I think it was midnight whenever I heard you...wow, we stayed here for six hours just touring the place." I breathed. "Maybe the animatronics automatically turn on whenever the place is supposed to be closed!" Mark rocketed out of the chair and began to pace in front of me, his feet kicking dust up in my face. "That means they have to leave at six when the place opens!" Mark darted back to the window. I coughed and followed close behind him, my curiosity getting the best of me. The animatronics gave us one last melancholy look as they walked back down the hallway to where they came from. Mark and I sighed in relief and opened the door. "C'mon, lets go back to your place." Mark motioned for me to follow him. We strode back to the entrance and pushed the door open. "That was creepy." I shuddered as I retrieved the brass key Scott gave me. "What's that for?" Mark eyed the key. "To lock the place up." I gently nudged Mark out of the pizza place. I locked the door behind me and pulled my car keys out of my hoodie pocket. "Can't wait for work tomorrow." I mumbled sarcastically as I started the car and drove onto the highway.
