Chapter 2

Gb pov

I flipped my hair back dramatically, letting water fling behind me. I flashed Fionna a smile and motioned a thumb to our chairs.

"I think I'm gonna get out now ladies, at least try and get some sun, ya' know?" I chuckled and they both nodded, following me out of the pool.

I sat back on my towel, and looked up at the two as they stood in front of me.
Fionna smiled and pointed to the tall water slides all the way on the other side of the park.
"We're gonna be over there gumgum! Don't wait up." Fionna and Cake ran off. I sighed and ran my fingers through my now wet hair.
I wonder if they even put sun screen on this morning! They are so gonna regret that tonight.
I stood up and went over to the tiki bar on the other side of the pool to get something to drink.

I paid for my strawberry smoothie and turned back to the chairs, only to catch a tall figure running off with my umbrella. The heck?

Who just steals a globbing umbrella!?

I broke out into a sprint after the figure, forgetting my smoothie somewhere on the ground. I watched as they made a sharp turn into the men's bathroom.
I slowed down to catch my breath before I walked in behind them.

The guy stood leaning against a sink, staring at the tile floor. My umbrella was in between his legs.

"U-um excuse me. You swiped my umbrella." I tried to grab his attention, stepping forward. When they didn't respond, I reached my hand out to grab it back.
His hand shot out and gripped my wrist in a death grip.

He  looked down at me, his brown, almost red, eyes burning into mine. He had sickly pale green skin, and a messy mop of black hair peaking out from under his large sun hat.
He frowned down at me. A chill went down my spine. Fucking creepy.. I think I've seen him at school before though.

"T-that's mine dude." My voice shook under his glare. What the fuck was wrong with him? Stealing my stuff and junk.
I could've sworn I've seen him in school before.

He sneered at me and finally spoke,
"Obviously. I don't own pink." He popped the p in pink, making it sound like saying it was a sin. I flinched.
           "You'll live without it."

He still didn't move to hand it over, so I shook my hands out of his grip and tried for it again.
This time, he side stepped me, heading back out the door.
Who does this ass think he is!? Just as he was halfway out the entrance, I ran up behind him and pulled my umbrella down, and he hissed out in pain and fell back to the floor. I watched as he curled up into a ball and covered his face with his hands.

I panicked and threw the umbrella to the side, putting my hands under his arms I pulled him back inside the bathroom and closed the door. Obviously he didn't like the sun.
I crouched down beside him and watched as he uncovered his face.
His pale skin was now blistered with burns out of no where. Where did those even come from?!

"Oh my! Are you okay man?" I jumped up and ran to get a wet towel from the sink.
When I came back over, the blisters were faded away. I scrunched up my nose and slowly backed away. What the hell was this? Some sort of joke?
He didn't seem that bothered though. He actually seemed to be ignoring me.

I sat away from him with my back against a stall, in silence. We both stayed like this for a long while.
I knew for a fact that this wasn't a good place to be, alone with some stranger I mean. Especially one that acts this strange.
After a while, he removed his hat from his head and threw it on the the floor. It slid across the tile.

"U-uh, do you need anything man?" I asked him, my voice stuttering a bit.
He makes a low noise, somewhat like a growl, and gets up on his hands and knees. He starts crawling towards me.
I coward back, bringing my knees up to my chest.
He looked like a menace.

He gets so close that I can feel his breath against my face.
"Yeah, actually. You wouldn't happen to have a car would you?" He asked me in a low raspy voice. I bit my lip and pushed my back farther against the stall door.
His breath smells of cheap cigarettes and sour apples.

Why would I want to give a stranger a ride though? What if he tried to rob me again? And I can't just get up and leave my friends!
"Yes, why exactly are you asking?" I turn my head away from him.

He sits back from me on to his heals and sighs in annoyance, as if my question pissed him off.
"I need to get out of here man. I can't take this kinda heat." He flips his hair a bit getting it out of his face.

I sat and thought to myself what would be the pros and cons of helping this robber out.
He seemed really hurt earlier, he might be horribly dehydrated! Maybe that's why he stole my umbrella, the sun can suck the life outta ya'!

I am one to give second chances, so I don't see why I can't take this risk of taking a stranger home to keep him from passing out in public.

"Fine. I'll take you home, alright? I just need my umbrella back." I laugh dryly and slowly stand up, offering him a hand.
He looks up at me with his red eyes and takes my hand with his gloved one. Which is very strange, for being at a water park.

He reopened my umbrella and we walk out of the water park to my car, me leading the way.
I had to make this really quick, or else Fi and Cake would possibly kill me.
I unlock my car and I watch as he slips in, looking down. His hat covered his face.

I start up the car uncomfortably and pull out of the lot.
"So....tell me what's going on then? What's your deal." I look over at him, he sat in a sort of ball, using all sorts of shade as possible from that huge sun hat.

He snorts and peaks over at me.
"Well to start off, my name is Marshall lee. And my friends dragged me here as a surprise for my birthday today. But I...don't like being in the sun. It hurts." Marshall mumbled the last part and fumbled a bit with this messy mop of hair. It looks like he just woke up with hair like that. But it suits him very well.

"Bad way to meet you Marshall lee. Happy Birthday." He just grunted and tilted his hat down further. I tried to hold a smile for him, he seemed so bummed.
I grabbed my water bottle from the cup holder in my door.
"Do you want some water? I have this one, I took a sip of it already but it's something." He peaked back up at me and swiped the bottle from my hand. Guess he was dehydrated! I giggled and stopped at a light.

I don't even know where I'm going.
"Mind telling me where ya' live then?" He made a 'oh' noise. Marshall shifted a bit to talk to me better.

"I live in a studio apartment downtown. Close to the plaza." I nodded at him. I've always wondered if people could actually live in those. I would be so cramped if I were him.

We sit my car in silence. I pull over to the side of the rode in front of the plaza, up ahead cop cars were surrounding a building.

I look over at Marshall and wait for him to say something. He never looked up, and twiddled his thumbs.

"I don't know if I should go over there. Something is going on over by my building." Marshall mumbled.
I kinda feel bad for the guy, he looks so sick and desperately needs to get out of the sun and he can't! Because of a crime scene up ahead.
I place my hand on his shoulder and he flinched.

"Well uh...I could let you stay at my place for the time being. I don't mind." Truthfully, I did mind. I barely knew this guy, and not even 30 minutes ago he was stealing my things. Why don't I think things through before I blurt stuff out!? Ugh.

He looked up at me with hope in his eyes, which made my heart flutter. This could be my good deed of the day.

My parents were out on a business trip in Paris for god knows what, and I'm sure Pepper wouldn't mind all that much.
I pulled out from the side of the road and headed for my neighborhood.
