It Was Anything But This.
Palutena combed her fingers through her long green hair, looking out into the night sky where she could see the strong moonlight cast onto the top of the oak trees outside, along with the numerous lights seen through the windows of other buildings.
The cool air ran over her skin as Palutena closed her eyes to take all of this in.
She was happy.
From behind her, she could hear faint footsteps make their way over to her. Palutena smiled automatically, knowing exactly who it was.
"You should close the window, love. You're gonna catch a cold if you leave it open all night."
"I just like taking it all in."
Palutena felt Lucina's arms wrap around her waist from behind. She put her hand over Lucina's as she looked back at her. Lucina's slim figure laid across the rest of the bed, her head rested under Palutena's arm.
"How come I didn't get to see you in the morning?" Palutena asked. She didn't mean for the question to come out a little dimly, but those small negative feelings made it that way.
"Work stuff... my dad really made me think he was dying—"
"You know you don't have to lie to me."
Pure silence filled the air. Knowing Lucina, it was Palutena that had to start.
"I know you're not feeling the best right now but I can help you. You know I can."
Lucina leaned her head against Palutena's figure, squeezing her eyes shut to prevent them swelling up.
"I just sit... under the trees... thinking about all the other possibilities..."
Palutena moved so that she lay next to the blue haired girl. She let her hands caress her face.
"It's that... it's... what if this... what if it's my fault—"
"Don't talk like that." Palutena looked her dead in the eye. "None of this is your fault. I'm gonna prove to you that it isn't. Do you understand?"
Lucina stayed silent before slowly opening her eyes, tears immediately falling down her cheek, in which Palutena quickly brushed them away.
They looked at each other, one through blurry red eyes.
"I love you."
Palutena felt a bliss in her heart hearing it. It always felt like the very first time they met, or confessed their love. It was just the magic of those three words coming out of her mouth.
Palutena leaned her head forward, kissing the girl in front of her softly. Her fingers tapped soothingly at Lucina's arms.
As always, her kiss always felt like their first.
Palutena moved her head to plant gentle kisses all over Lucina's neck, meanwhile letting her hands intertwine with the other's.
It was moments like these that Palutena was always grateful for. Knowing that through all other things, this happened. These shared feelings, this love that never died or got old. This love that reassured both that they weren't alone, and in fact always had someone to lift them up to see the sun.
But it was always anything but this.
Because then Palutena woke up.
