☆Chapter 7: Chocolate bars and ghostbusters☆
With a tensed up body, both two of my shoes missing, my hardened glare and my fists tightly clenched at my sides, I walked - more like stomped - into my dorm room.
The aftermath of that whole situation held my mind captive in unwanted memory but I shook it off. Simply and easy. Then why did I feel my stupid heart hammering against my ribcage like a wild animal? Stupid heart. Stupid handsome freak.
I ignored Kelly's questioning gaze and eyes filled with curiosity as I decided to become my inner spirit animal and sloth my way to my bed. My patience was thin and already, I have met two world-class jerks on my first day here, too be completely fair, they also met a jerk, me.
Was I going to admit that out loud?
Never.
"What do you want to ask Kelly? Do it before I become sick of your nervous glances and beady eyes. You are lucky I don't have any shoes on my feet at this moment, they were used to slightly beat two assholes." I grumbled as I welcomed the bed I would be accompanying for the next four years with a grunt and open arms.
My eyes were closed but my hearing sense picked up Kelly bouncing off her bed and trotting heavily towards the door.
Whatever. I needed to sleep so I could prevent myself from going all King Kong on the next person who merely talks to me. These days, if it wasn't my small guitar lowering my anger and stress levels, it was sleep which proved to be an instant remedy, that's if I wasn't always this disturbed.
I leaped up and frustratingly glared at Kelly who walked back into the room and not so subtly banged the door behind her. About to give her a piece of my mind, the quiet girl softly smiled and dropped my shoe on the floor, beside my other one.
"I felt like you were going to become even angrier if you find out that some weird freshman ran away with your shoe."
"Mhmm." I pretended to think, "Now that I think about, I would hunt that freshman down and make her or him eat that shoe. So yeah, that was well ya know." I waved my hands in front of me, hoping that she got the idea. I found it hard to say those words.
"I don't actually," Kelly said and I could hear the underlying teasing tone in her soft voice. I rolled my eyes, making it clear that I was done talking for today.
I didn't know what I was expecting from my college life, all I had was a simple agenda.
I had a plan in my mind, a plan that I needed to strictly follow. I couldn't let my parents down especially after all they have done for me. Putting up with my stubborn and aggressive ass was one hell of a mission but they did so perfectly.
I hated people who stuck to the rules yet that was what I was going to do for the next four years of my life.
Schoolwork is going to be my only focus and so help me if anybody stands in my way.
●●●●●●●
The dedicated thoughts and plans about what the next four years of my life entailed slowly started traveling down my least favorite tunnel called giving up.
I had about four classes today and personally, it was strange. Firstly I went to class willingly without having suspension threats looming over my head. If my high school friends witnessed this, they would definitely think I've been experimented on.
Secondly, I've been given the time table of the whole year's syllabus and I think at those moments, I received a taste of the world ending. The amount of work that I had to endure for just this semester alone was awakening.
I didn't know how I was going to be taught with the number of pricks in my classes. Everyone either chatted with friends, secretly when on Instagram, or made fun of the lecturers.
A mind-blowing thought looked me straight in the face...Was this the way I acted during my high school career?
Meh, I didn't care.
What I did care about though were the number of people who thought they could say a few words to me and instantly expected us to be friends. I didn't want friends - Kelly being the only exception - mainly because the friends who I normally had were only good for one thing, a distraction. I didn't need distractions here.
So when these random people try and attempt to make conversation with me, I reacted much meaner than I actually am.
A cheery girl with bright red hair walked over to me while I waited for my chocolate bar that took extremely long to fall out of the vending machine. I rolled my eyes as she tapped on my shoulder then continued extra hard after I ignored her presence.
Bending down to grab my chocolate bar, I then stood up straighter and looked at the preppy girl straight in the face.
"I'm Kylie Stewert."
"I'm about to invent a new way to murder someone with a chocolate bar if you don't step out of my way." I tightly smiled and for extra effect, I ran the bar across my throat.
Kylie's eyes widened and then the oh so perfect exterior vanished and in its place, I was met with her true colors. Typical. Everyone's proven fake when you say something they don't like. Ignoring her rants, I began to open the bar.
"You are such a b*tch, Pierson, that's right I know who you are." She snapped and walked away, probably because my eyes narrowed in my infamous anger.
Deep down, I wondered how she knew me. It has to be Dominic, he might be some joker but his not about to make a joke from my life.
"Only b*tches recognize b*tches," I yelled back, not being able to restrain the snappy come back from escaping my mouth. I shrugged to one in particular and continued to munch on my bar.
So far my day has been filled with social interactions that I wish could just disappear. I just came back from my last class of today, agriculture and now I needed to eat a whale if I were to make it to tomorrow.
With food in mind, nothing could get in my way except for none other than Dominic of course. He walked up to me with a camera in his hands and a stupid smirk on his even more stupid face.
"Did my shoe or fist not hit you hard enough the first time? Woah, I was pretty sure it did since you ran away like some coward. Don't fret though Dominic, my kick is pretty sure to knock you straight back to your mommy's house."
Dominic smiled widely, "Funny. Anyway I f*cked your roomie." My face dropped as I was sure I resembled a dying fish. Before I could react, he lifted up his camera and the click that followed after brought me out of my stricken daze.
"Ha got ya." He winked and looked down at my picture. My fists were clenched by my sides tightly as he laughed and walked off.
I took a step forward, ready to beat him up but then I thought, which is better...Physical pain or mental pain?
With that mindset put into motion, I attempted to scoop out anything on him. What it got me only lead to more frustration and a few more enemies...
"Weird fetishes like you know I've heard of getting aroused due to sun rays and getting aroused when thinking of oneself in the opposite sex? No? Okay we getting somewhere, has he killed someone? Blink twice if he's threatening you to stay quiet. Not gonna answer? Okay but just remember snitches don't get stitches in this situation with me. Does he secretly watch Barney? Dude, anything! Is he secretly shagging a lecturer?" I paused and patted the nerdy guy on his shoulder in pity.
I sighed as the little dude ran off. "There's no way this guy can be so squeaky clean."
The grumbling of my stomach was a sign that I should give up for today and resume this impossible mission tomorrow. I've been doing this for about forty minutes now and I found out that Dominic is a great lacrosse player and I'm also a super scary human being.
By the number of times people have run away from me, it gave me a taste of how ghosts and demons feel in horror movies.
I headed for the exit, wanting to get food from a nearby cafe that was situated around campus. I should have looked where I was going but my eyes were transfixed with google maps, compelled to find that one pancake place that I searched for before coming here. I had to make sure the campus was in close proximity to junk food since I don't have a car.
Walking into someone was bound to happen and this time, the person was Mr. Camera guy, Daniel.
Due to the contact, the camera slipped out of his hands and I swear it was like a slow-motion movie. I'm sure Daniel yelled, 'No.' All I did was catch the stupid thing. Inspecting it with curious eyes, I couldn't help but notice that it looked similar to the one Dominic had.
"Oh nothing Red, it's this girl I've been telling you about. Well she just bumped into me and now is holding my baby." Daniel said, directing his words towards his phone but I knew by the tone of his voice, he was trying to make a point. He grabbed his so-called baby with his other hand.
"Yeah she's a psychopath, I was literally so close to having my ear cut off. It was good for something though, it gave me an idea of this new movie project. No dude, it's not going to be a cat-themed sci-fi. When are you getting here anyway? Car broke, th-." His voice trailed away the further I walked away from him.
Now finally I can focus on food.
"Hey B*tch!" My body went rigid as I grimaced in frustration. It was proven and settled, both the universe and food gods hated me. I turned around and my eyes met with a group of people lounging under a huge tree, some were sitting on a bench while others were laying across blankets put over the grass.
There were a few who were smoking as well, making me feel bad for the environment around them despite how I occasionally smoke myself.
"What hoe?!" I asked, shifting my weight onto one leg and lowered my gaze on the girl who called me out.
She had really clear chestnut skin with caramelized brown eyes that contrasted with her slightly curly oak-shaded hair. The girl had a cigarette held loosely between her lips and she wore a normal plain white shirt with skinny jeans.
The rest of the people around her portrayed the same feeling she gave me; chilled and layed back. Definitely one of the types I would hang around in high school but I wasn't high school.
She assessed my attire and scanned my skinny jeans, knotted tied up Levi shirt, and white sneakers. "I'm Megan." She started then blew smoke out through her nose. "Friends?" She asked while her head slightly tilted.
I meant what I said about no distractions and this whole group was the basic definition of the word. I didn't need this but did I want this? Hell yes, they looked fun but that was the exact thought I had in high school.
"I'm Pierson and nah. I had my fair share of fake people in my life." I said, walking up closer to the group.
Their facial expressions
transformed from layed back to surprised in a matter of seconds.
"I feel ya I had my fair share of direct and honest people." She uttered, referring to me. I nodded, understandingly. "What do you suggest then?" She continued as she blew out a puff of smoke, handing the bud to me.
I held my hand out, contradicting my earlier thoughts for the environment... I needed something to calm me down.
I accepted with a blank face while inhaling, "B*tches who tolerate each other?" I shrugged and handed the cigarette back. We both nodded then she began introducing me to some of the people here. Many of them who's names I'd most definitely forget by tomorrow.
Out of the group, Antonio Martinez also known as Toni caught my attention with his curly black hair tipped with rainbow-colored highlights and golden circular glasses. Tony was a cool guy, he apparently is pansexual, loves collecting old things, and doesn't speak much, or at least that was the description that Megan told me.
"There's this party at the Reich frat house this Saturday, you should come," Tony suggested then continued to read his book. Everyone else became consumed with surprise since he spoke to me while I thought about going to a party run by frat boys.
"Maybe."
"Before you go Pierson, my boy Joe said he wanted to give you this," Megan said as she handed me a piece of paper. It took me one second to read it.
Wanna meet up?
I instantly remembered who this Joe guy was, the one who rudely bumped into me. The one that's backside became acquainted with one of my shoes. Luckily, that whole ordeal only ended in an angered grunt on his part.
I tore the note in pieces and kept it in my pocket so I could throw it away later.
My parents taught me to never out of no circumstances litter. I have watched enough videos to know what one piece of litter could do to the Earth and it was not a pretty sight.
"Tell him when he has the balls to ask me himself then I can reply and reject him in person...Don't mention the last part though." I said, scrunching my nose.
Why would a guy purposely shove a girl then magically want to hang out? What happened to nice manners and a good personality attracting women? Everyone wanted a guy who didn't respect them nowadays.
Megan began clapping her hands with a grin possessing her glossed lips, "You are one hell of a sneaky b*tch."
"Now you know so don't get on my bad side." I smiled tightly and began walking away, needed to fill my stomach with carbs before I punch someone.
●●●●●●●
"Kelly Jones put off the damn light! I need at least 9 hours or I'll be moody and you do not want to see me moody." I threatened, digging my head in one of my two pillows while I used the other pillow to snuggle with.
Five seconds passed before Kelly switched her lamp off and now, I could finally let sleep envelop me. Hopefully, I would dream of one of my favorite male actors or food.
"Pierson, how are you so popular already? You just got here and everyone knows your name." Kelly stated with a quiet voice before yawning.
I shrugged in response but then realized she couldn't see me, "I really don't care Kelly. It's people's own problem if they decide to talk about me and make a huge deal about it. I hope you don't care about it as well. Popularity is an evil thing." I muttered back.
"Yeah I guess so." She paused then inhaled a deep breath, "I just...I don't know. There was this guy and well I tripped over my own feet on my way to class then he actually helped me and then started a conversation! Boys never do that because apparently I'm weird and nerdy. I got nervous and it was a given because he was so handsome..."
"Okay. Continue." I couldn't help but ask, my curiosity has been spiked.
Kelly sighed and her voice wavered, "The only reason he even helped me up was to ask me about you."
My eyes widened despite my sleep zombie state. Guilt began blossoming in my heart and I gulped, not knowing how I must deal with this. I began fiddling with my hands and I was lucky since the lights were off that she couldn't see how much of a nervous wreck I was at this moment.
What do I say? Think Pierson. I really felt like a pile of sh*t just because some guy she liked knew my name.
"You don't have to say something." She yawned, "I know you not good with these types of situations. It's just...ya know. He was cute."
"I'm sorry," I said quietly and it was just my luck that she heard my voice. She began to laugh and my face instantly transformed into a glare.
"You actually said it." She said, continuing to snicker.
"Yeah whatever, go sleep." And we did for only a few hours anyway until I felt a shaky hand caress my cheek. I was still in a sleepy state so this person was lucky that I didn't pin their arm to the ground and possibly break it. The feel of the hand was ... Nice as shaky and sweaty as it is, it still felt warm upon my cheek.
"You destroyed my Timothèe Chamalet dream. Expect to stay in this dorm hall as a ghost." I grumbled and the person fell back in surprise, judging by the sound of the harsh impact on the ground.
I groaned loudly and rubbed my eyes, hearing Kelly mutter from the other side of the room.
Opening my eyes, I sat up and tried multiple times to turn the lamp switch on, and once I did, I was shocked to find a cute guy sitting on the ground with a nervous toothy grin.
"I c-can be a friendly g-ghost like ... Casper!! Though ghosts like Casper freak me out. Rather can I be a hun-."
"Who the hell are you?!"
The guy stood up and smiled really awkwardly, "Ghostbuster?"
