||Chapter 28||
-Author's POV-
The married couple sleeps peacefully in the garden of bliss; the morning birds chirp their unique melodies into the tranquil ambiance.
Cheryl is first to wake up.
The sun doesn't blind her like she'd imagined, it was a peaceful awakening, spilling a serene feel to curse through her system. She lies in the arms of her wife, it's chilly, but with Kimberley holding her tightly it kept her warm and cozy all throughout the night.
Last nights nightmare turns her expression upside down. The memory of Madison's venomous words repeat in the back of her mind, she tries, and tries to fight them away, but it was no use. They've won, so they play on repeat.
You will be nothing to me. She forces herself not to cry.
My Madison.
Kimberley's eyes flutter open gracefully, her heart aches when she finds Cheryl lying in her arms, the once sparkling brown orbs stare aimlessly ahead.
"Good morning," she whispers, it saddens her knowing her wife was breaking.
"Morning." Cheryl forces a smile, with a kiss to Kimberley's lips and a shuffle in her arms, she sighs with happiness.
This time she smiles genuinely.
"It's nice out here, don't you think?" Kimberley starts a conversation, "We should do this more often."
Cheryl nods and cranes her neck up for another kiss. Kimberley smiles and obliges her request, giving her a long, lingering kiss filled with love and passion.
"How are you doing this morning?" The blonde asks, her words whispering against the lips she claimed seconds ago.
She gives her another kiss and readjusts herself, but never releasing Cheryl from her arms.
"Not too good," Cheryl replies truthfully "What time do you think we can go see her?" She asks.
"Don't we have to wait until the results show tonight?" Kimberley asks, frowning with confusion.
"I have to see her before babe," Cheryl sighs, she grows frustrated with herself. "How did I not see it? How could I be so blind? Did you see it?"
Kimberley nods with a frowning pout.
"I didn't really think she was your daughter or anything.." She averts her eyes for a moment, and retreats them back to the gloomy brown orbs. "I'd just thought you's had a lot of similarities like.." The blonde trails off, and offers the sulking Geordie a smile.
"I love her you know," Cheryl admits in a whisper, "She's a pain.. But I know she'll come around. She can't just.. Leave? Can she?" She asks, doubt lacing with her hushed words.
"She's not going anywhere love, I wont allow it." Kimberley furrows her eyebrows; she kisses the Geordie once more. She knew Cheryl needed to feel loved; the dark thoughts swarm her world with Madison's words.
She knew.
"When do you want to go?" The blonde asks.
"Now?" Kimberley laughs and shakes her head.
"Baby," She giggles again, "I'm sure it's six o'clock in the morning right now-"
"So? Please? Can we please go now?"
Kimberley shakes her head in reponse.
"First I'm going to make you breakfast-"
"But, I'm not hungry-"
"I don't care, I know what you get when you're upset," Kimberley scowls at her. "You're eating, I don't care if I have to force feed you."
Cheryl rolls her eyes with a groan.
"Fine!" She huffs childishly, "You're always making us do stuff-"
"I'm doing it for your health," Kimberley shakes her head with a chuckle. "You drive me crazy."
Cheryl giggles lightly, unable to resist much longer; she kissers her wife.
They lie wrapped up in each other for sometime, the early birds fluttering away as the sun rose; awakening London with summer sunshine. Their lips seal, with molded smiles pressed firmly together.
The tragedy was overwhelming, but they could outcome anything as long as they had each other.
"Everything will be alright I hope you know," Kimberley whispers sweetly, she kises her wife repeatedly. This gets a smile to curl up to the Geordie's lips.
"I don't know if it will.." Cheryl speaks her mind truthfully. She was being honest with herself, the image of Madison's eyes firing with rage never leave her memory.
Her smile fades.
"Baby," The blonde speaks gently, with tender hands; she takes Cheryl's trembling chin between her fingers. "Do you trust me?"
Cheryl nods with glossy eyes.
"Then trust me when I tell you," Kimberley smiles sadly, "Everything is going to be alright.. Okay?"
Cheryl nods once more and cuddles back into the blonde's warm embrace.
------
Madison wakes up with a frown, it wasn't a pleasant morning, and it wasn't a joyful with sunrays. Curtains were drawn shut last night, windows were closed, and her heart was shutdown.
She was empty.
The bedroom still settles with darkness, the rest of the contestants sleep soundlessly. With a sigh, she climbs out of bed and tiptoes her way into the bathroom they all shared, her feelings towards this home have turned to hate.
She strips down her nightwear, and shivers to the sudden coolness.
Cautiously, she steps under the running shower.
She sighs to the heat pouring down on her.
Every thought has casted away, a peaceful flow curses through her, and off she went. Her thoughts have taken her on a ride; imagination and memories of Chris bring a smile back to her lips.
~~~~~~
"Jump!" Chris shouts over the heavy rain, it echoes and roars.
She shouts back.
"It's not safe you moron!!"
"Stop being a wuss and jump!" He chuckles, the lake showers in the cries coming form the skies. He pedals around, keeping himself afloat.
She shakes her head.
"You're missing out!" He teases.
She looks up to the heavens, her face surpluses with rain, it trickles every inch of her features.
She smiles.
"JUMP!" He shouts again.
With a deep breath, she grasps the secured rope and swings herself into the deep waters.
~~~~~~~
She blinks the tears away.
A goodbye she wasn't ready to tell, a goodbye that wasn't returned with a hello. It's loud in her head, with words she should have said.
She drowns in her regret.
The waters wash away her memories, every hurt, and every trauma that occurred in her tragic past.
I know you're gone. She cries. But I need you back Chris.
I need you back.
She mentally repeats those words. The waters don't help, the hurt doesn't mend, and as hard as she tries, Chris will forever be gone.
I can't do this anymore.
Nobody understands.
She was closed off for many reasons, afraid of allowing someone in would only result to another loss. She was afraid of love, she was afraid to be loved.
She hated love.
Cheryl. She grits her teeth. She gave me away.
With a deep breath, she switches the water off. All cried out and drained, the day has just started for her, yet, she was ready to get back into bed and sleep into tomorrow.
She takes her time changing; her eyes fixate to the floor length mirror hung against the wall in the bathroom.
I hate myself.
She was so confident, and always believed in herself, but with one look at her biological mother; it all disappeared into nothingness.
Poof. Gone.
"Hurry up!" Ella's harsh tone startles her.
"Out in a minute!" She clears her throat and rushes herself to get dressed.
"Took you long enough," The older girl pushes herself through, shouldering Madison on her way in.
She wasn't in the mood to fight this morning; she was far too occupied with her own thoughts.
The results show was tonight, and even that didn't excite her or send an adrenaline rush through her.
She was empty.
Keeping quiet and distancing herself was one of her best mechanism of protection, she would avoid her problems by avoiding everyone in sight. She closes herself off, shielding a solid bubble around the fragile world she once created.
Kimberley and Cheryl had broken into her castle walls, and now they were rebuilding quickly.
She's on autopilot now. She eats her breakfast with blank stares and muting sounds.
Everyone on the table laughs and howls with happiness, Madison sits with her bowl of half eaten porridge and orange juice left to go warm.
She shifts her eyes once coming back to reality; she notices the space between everyone. Nobody was giving her much attention, and she was silently thankful for that.
With a silent sigh, she stands to her feet and retreats to the bedroom.
She calls her parents but gets no response.
They're busy, it's fine.
A nap was needed for her tired soul, without a blink or a thought; she falls back into her bed and sleeps the rest of the day through.
-------
"We can't just go in babe," Kimberley speaks as she drives Cheryl and herself to the contestant's home. "I don't want them whispering about her."
Kimberley's protective side for the teen only made her wife smile with a sparkle returning to her once gloomy eyes.
"So what do we do?" She asks, her fingers tracing invisible patterns to Kimberley's hand resting in her lap.
"I'll go in and have her come outside-"
"She wouldn't listen to you yesterday, what makes you think she'll listen to you today?" Cheryl questions with a frown. "She's stubborn."
She's just like us. Cheryl smiles at the thought.
"I'll try my best okay?" Kimberley gives her thigh a squeeze, "If she doesn't want to talk to you.. Then there's always tonight?" Cheryl nods, the frown returning to her expression.
"Okay.." She whispers, her gaze falls to the outside world as she unconsciously continues to caress her wife's hand.
Kimberley sighs and keeps quiet. She gives her wife the mental space she needed, the silence allows Cheryl to process her thoughts, and she knew what the Geordie could get like, so, she doesn't utter a single word and drives the rest of the way with muteness.
Cheryl's mind is in a whirlwind of churning and breaking gusts collapsing together. There was no sunshine occurring; her daughter, her Madison, is still still taunting her memory.
The drive seemed like centuries to her, but once they pulled up to the home, she instantly sighed with relief.
Her heartbeat was thumping wildly once again.
Anxiety rushes through her veins.
"You're going to stay in the car. Alright love?" Cheryl nods her head; reluctantly she releases her wife's hand and allows Kimberley to climb out of the car.
She watches the blonde all the way through, until she disappears behind the closed door.
Kimberley takes a deep breath, and plasters a smile to her expression.
"Kimberley?" Kaylee smiles once she notices the older woman's presence in the contestants' home.
"Hello." She forces herself to reply, "How are you Kaylee?" They embrace quickly.
"Alright yeah," Kaylee nods and pulls away, "What are you doing here?" She asks.
"I wanted to speak to Madison?" The teen's smile crumbles and replaces with displeasure.
Of course she came to see Madison. Kaylee mentally rolls her eyes.
"Have you seen her?" Kimberley asks, noticing the teens discomfort; she shifts her eyes in hopes to spot her little girl.
"Yeah," Kaylee replies. "She's in the bedroom." And with that, she walks away.
Kimberley releases an aggravated sigh and heads to the bedroom she had found Madison in last night.
She shakily knocks against the white wooden door.
No reply.
She knocks again, a little louder this time.
No reply.
"Madison?" She whispers, her voice sounds with sadness.
"Sweetheart?" She tries again, her hand hovers over the door handle. With impatience rising, she opens the door and lets herself in.
It's pitch dark.
The curtains allow minimal light through.
"Madison?" She whispers in a hush.
Her eyes open wide, they frantically search for the teen currently sound asleep.
Her hands blindly searches' for the light switch; with a few more seconds, and a few frustrated groans, she flicks the switch on.
The room comes to life, and there lied Madison.
Sleeping with a broken heart.
Kimberley smiles and timidly tiptoes her way over. She settles down to her knees, her eyes examine Madison, sleeping from exhaustion.
The teen releases a tiny snore, melting Kimberley's heart completely.
"Hey Maddy?" She whispers, her fingers fearfully rack through the long brown locks currently covering Madison's face.
The teen returns to reality with serenity with the feel of someone's nails scraping against her scalp, it was so delicate.. So different.
"Hmm" She smiles with her eyes closed.
"Sweetheart? It's me." The sound of Kimberley's tone gets Madison's eyes to snap open; she promptly pushes herself away from the blondes touch.
"Didn't I ask you to leave yesterday?" Madison's voice cracks to life, "Do you not understand I don't want you anywhere near me!?" She screech's, her hands unconsciously raise the duvet up to her chest.
Mentally she was protecting herself.
"I'm not going anywhere until you listen-"
"I've listened, and I don't give a fcuk what you're-"
"Watch your mouth," Kimberley scowls. "I don't care how upset you are with me and my wife, you don't talk to me like that."
Madison gulps to the sternness, but she never shows her discomfort.
"I want you to listen to what Cheryl has to say," Kimberley begins again. Madison releases a smug smirk, and ignores every word the blonde had just sternly hissed at her.
"Like I said Kimberley," She shuffles up in bed, the top bunk making it difficult to sit up fully. "I. Don't. Give. A. Fcuk. What. You. Or-"
"Madison," Kimberley grits her teeth, she abruptly stands to her feet and grasps the teen's hand along with her.
With a bit of a struggle, she manages to get Madison to her feet.
"Get dressed." She finishes her words.
Madison yanks her hand away with annoyance.
"Are you fcuking stupid!?" She snaps, her temper arising quickly. "What makes you think I'll talk to her? Let alone you?!" Madison intakes a deep breath, she's mentally hoping not to cry.
Don't cry you b*tch! Don't cry. She mentally scolds herself.
"What makes you think I wont force you to listen to her!?" Kimberley snaps back, both tempers meeting in a leveled up fcukness.
"Get out." Madison growls, she pushes past the blonde, only for a tight grasp stopping her in place.
"Let me go!"
"Stop your shouting!" Kimberley hisses, "Do you want people coming in here and asking questions!?"
Madison bites her tongue, her hand still twisting to be released.
"Are you going to listen?"
The teen shakes her head stubbornly.
"Go get dressed." Kimberley demands, her hand tightening to Madison's wrist.
"No." She pulls her hand free.
Their eyes meet in a raging fire.
"Swear to god you're just like your Mam-"
"She's not my fcuking Mam," Madison mimics her, "She'll never be my fcuking Mam! Now get out!"
Kimberley frowns sadly. "How could you be so heartless?" She whispers.
"You should ask your wife that.. Only someone who's heartless would give away their own fcuking flesh and blood. Now. Get out." She repeats herself.
Kimberley nods timidly, with a deep gulp; she walks out and returns to her hopeful wife.
Madison releases all the tears she was holding back, she'd been waiting forever to know who her biological parents were. Now that she knew who her mother was, she doesn't want to see it, she doesn't want to believe it.
She wished to never know who she was, because deep down, she loved that woman. The love had turned to hate, and now she was stuck in her own pathetic darkness of hell.
Kimberley shakes her head as Cheryl locks eyes with the upset blonde. She was dreading the explanation she'd give to her eager wife, the Geordie longed to explain her past, the explanation needed to be said.
"No?" Cheryl whispers.
Kimberley climbs in without a word, she drives them out of the home. Her words were stuck, because no matter what she says or does, it wouldn't make a difference.
Damn her. Kimberley mentally snaps.
"I get it.." Cheryl mumbles quietly, her gloomy brown orbs returning. "I wouldn't want to talk to us either." She laughs sadly.
"Tonight," Kimberley clears her throat; "There's always tonight love."
She reaches out and takes Cheryl's hand and places a few kisses to her cold knuckles.
"I don't know if I want to tell her anymore," The Geordie admits, "She's just going to reject us-"
"Tonight," Kimberley repeats determinedly. "Please no more negativity. I hate this.. I hate how she's acting and I don't like you sad baby," She stops at the red light and turns to look at her wife properly.
"Please, no more tears okay?" Cheryl nods, releasing a few more tears. "What do you want to do today? We've got about two hours before we have to head to the studios?"
"I just want to be with you." Cheryl sniffs cutely.
She's fcuking adorable.
"Do you want to go for a bit of ice cream?"
"I'm not a child Kimba," They giggle.
"Didn't realize you had to be a child to have some ice cream."
Kimberley reaches out and wipes the last of her wife's tears away, gently, she leans in a kisses her tenderly.
"Ice cream date," She speaks in between kisses, "Me, and you."
They kiss through the red light, and with obnoxious beeps returning them back to reality; they reluctantly pull apart.
"Okay," Cheryl whispers and settles back in her seat.
The blonde drives them to Cheryl's favorite ice cream parlor, because when her wife is sad, it was her job to bring the happiness back into their once bright and vibrant bubble.
----
The night had settled upon them, it was nerves and anxiety corroding through the contestant's veins.
Madison sits herself in the far corner; mentally preparing herself for the results.
Her entire lot was here, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and of course, Connor and Clara. They were all here to see her, they were proud of their grandchild, niece, and daughter.
Her smile was in place, but mentally, she was falling apart.
One, Two, Three.
She repeats her breathing excursive. The feeling of uncertainty was overwhelming her, the gut instinct settling deep into her core was a sign that tonight wasn't going to end well.
Something bad is going to happen.
It was another characteristic she'd inherited from Cheryl, the gut instinct of knowing what might occur in the next hour. She was sure something terribly wrong was going to happen, so, she shells herself up in the furthest corner she could possibly find.
"Cheryl will be in here shortly, please finish up with your final touches," The crewmember informs the girls and walks out of the dressing room.
One, Two, Three.
She forces herself to stay calm.
"Why are you sitting there like a weirdo?" Jessica rolls her eyes, "You're always wanting some sort of attneiton"
One, Two, Three. One, Two, Three.
"Are you not going to answer?"
The girls laugh simultaneously.
One, Two, Three.
Madison stands to her feet with a deep breath.
"Oh she walks," Kaylee sniggers, "Are you going to walk yourself over to us?"
They laugh again.
One, Two, Three. One, Two, Three.
"Weirdo."
One,
"You're an odd one."
Tw-
Madison grits her teeth and launches herself to Kaylee, sending her flying to the ground. Just as her fist was ready to collide with the teen's cheek, a firm hand stops any action from happening.
"Get up." Cheryl hisses, "Get up!" She pulls a raging teen up to her feet.
"Let me go!" Madison jerks her hand away, and takes a step back from the aggravated Geordie.
"You fcuking b-" Cheryl cuts off Kaylee
"I suggest you keep those words to yourself!" She snaps.
The room goes quiet. They've never seen Cheryl with eyes that screamed danger.
Madison walks away and returns to her corner, her breathing exercises resuming once again.
"Could you girls give me and Madison a minute?"
The contestants smirk, their minds manipulating them to believe that Cheryl was going to tell the teen off for her behavior.
They quickly scurry out.
"Mad-"
"Save it." Madison stands to her feet, "I don't want to hear your stupid excuses."
Their eyes meet, and Cheryl is unable to look anywhere else.
"You have to listen to us-"
"No I don't. I don't want to hear it.. Just.. Leave me alone." She goes to walk out, but as expected, Cheryl stops her.
"Please." Cheryl whispers, her hand gently hangs on to the teens.
"You sound pathetic," She pulls her hand away. "You are pathetic."
Cheryl's ready to reply, but it was time to head out to the arena.
"We're ready for your girls Cheryl." Comes the staff's voices, green eyes and browns never avert.
They've locked each other.
"Mrs. Tweedy-Walsh, we're read-"
"Thank you," She cuts him off and turns away from Madison. "We'll be out shortly-"
"No we need you out now-"
"Alright," She nods, and with that he leaves.
"We'll talk later-"
"Good joke," Madison rolls her eyes and walks past the Geordie. "I wont be talking to you."
Cheryl takes a deep breath and follows her out. The contestants wait for their mentor, the mentor that was currently breaking.
She attempts to grasp Madison's hand, but the teen moves far away from her reach. So, she takes Jessica and Kaylee's hand.
They walk out to the arena filled with friends, and family. It was bursting with love, but Madison doesn't feel a single bit of it, she'd gone cold and dark.
Nonetheless, her eyes still search out for her family.
Her world is fuzzy, and filled with murmured sounds. Contestant after contestant is safe, she doesn't realize the number of contestants walking off the stage with beaming smiles, and sighs of reliefs.
She doesn't notice she's the last of the girls, and she sure as hell doesn't feel the hand grasping hers.
"Sing off." She hears Dermot state.
Her world suddenly becomes clear, and there she stood, the last girl and one last boy from Mel's team.
"Sing off?" She frowns; her eyes look out to her family once again.
Disappointment. She sees it written on their faces.
"You're going to do amaz-" Before Cheryl can finish her little admiration speech, Madison walks off stage and leaves the Geordie standing alone.
Cheryl plasters a smile to her lips and returns to the judging panel.
The Judges wait for Mel's contestant to sing first.
"They're both so incredible," Mel whispers to Cheryl, "How could this happen?"
Cheryl tries not to get emotional; she simply shrugs and shakes her head. The sadness evident in her expression.
Mel's contestant sings his life away, taking it all in and owning the stage with his voice.
Cheryl looks back and meets Kimberley's sad blue-greys.
They shrug simultaneously, knowing exactly what they were both thinking.
I love you. Kimberley mouths, and conveys her best smile in hopes to project it to her distraught wife.
Cheryl blows her a kiss and returns the words of love.
"Cheryl?" Dermot gets her attention.
"Sorry?" She shakes her head and clears her throat, "Me litte Maddy is up, and this proves that nobody is safe! Nobody is voting at home! Everyone needs to understand, every vote counts!" She snaps, her anger bubbling up quickly.
"Madison Harris, show them who they should have been voting for!"
Madison takes a deep breath and steps onto the stage; the world disappears as she loses herself in the music.
Just as her confidence came back, she mistakenly opens her eyes and meets Cheryl's. She begins to stutter and her lyrics are suddenly forgotten.
The melody plays, but the lyrics aren't sounded.
"I'm sorry.." She apologizes for messing up. "Can I start o-over again?"
The arena goes silent, and the music is turned off.
Dermot steps onto the stage with a sympethatic look.
"Can I-I start over?" She asks once more.
Cheryl's tears build up.
I'm going home. Madison repeats to herself. I'm going home.
"I'm sorry," Dermot apologizes, "You get one shot."
She nods and accepts defeat.
"Michael," The presenter calls over the other contestant. "You guys know the rules. If the votes are evened then we go to deadlock, the public will have the last say of who will stay."
Madison gulps.
"Louis?"
Louis sighs sadly, "You are both stars.. But based on tonight's performances-"
"You can't just base it on tonight's performance Louis!" Cheryl cuts him off.
"Cheryl, please," Dermot speaks gently, "Wait your turn."
She bites her tongue and scowls in her seat angrily.
"I'm sorry Cheryl," Louis says, "But.. I'm sending Madison home tonight."
Madison nods with a smile.
It's okay. She mouths to Louis getting a smile from him in return.
"Mel?"
"Both of you's are amazing! But.. I have to vote for my boy!" Mel takes a deep breath, "Madison I'm sending you home."
One, Two, Three. One, Two, Three.
"Cheryl?" The cameras point to the upset Geordie.
"I don't understand why we even have to do this stupid voting!"
"Please Cheryl, we're running out of time." Dermot urges her to finish.
"Me girl worked damn hard-"
"Please Cheryl-"
"Well I'm obviously going to vote for me girl!" She snaps, her frustration taking over.
"Simon, you either send Madison home, or put them to deadlock," Cheryl turns with teary eyes to Simon.
"Please Simon.. Please." She whispers to him, "Please."
"I'm sorry," He apologizes to the distraught Geordie. "Madison, you've got a lot ahead of you.. Maybe you can come back next year with a bit more confidence and win it!"
"Please!" Cheryl says a little louder, her tears streaming down her cheeks now.
Kimberley stands, readying herself for the breakdown.
"Madison you're going home."
Madison keeps the fake smile on her expression, fighting the tears away.
"Madison," Cherly begins her cries. "You are going to m-make I-It f-far th-this isn't the en-" The teen walks off stage, leaving Cheryl to finish her speech in loud cries.
She runs.
The microphone drops from her hand as she pushes her way through the corridors.
Leaving Cheryl a mess, and everyone confused as to where she ran off.
I need to find a hill. She mentally cries. I need to find a fcuking hill!
