|| Chapter 143 ||

Author's POV

Madison groans as her Mum goes to stand up, she cuddles in further. "You can't undo this cuddle," She huffs, clinging.

Kimberley chuckles, "You know me cuddling you any longer will probably result to me getting into even more trouble with your Mam."

"She'll get over it." Madison hums, shuffling herself further onto her Mum, focusing back her attention to the television.

"Don't you think we've watched too much of this crap—"

"The Kardashians are very entertaining." Madison hums, she really did love being held this way.

"You're extra sticky tonight."

"Take it in, it doesn't happen often."

Kimberley smirks, rolling her eyes. "I have a question actually."

"Yeah?" Madison looks up, her smile hasn't left.

"You told me that you went for breakfast but it didn't last long, right?"

"Yeah, why?"

"So where were you for, what, I don't know, eleven hours?"

Madison's smile falls, her body turns stiff and attempts to sit up.

"No, no, no – you said cuddle time, right?"

"Mum, let go." Madison grumps, sitting up.

"What are you not telling me?" Kimberley questions, an unimpressed expression painted to her face.

"Nothing, Mum." Madison huffs, climbing off the sofa. "You never believe me."

"Oh, stop with the violins, c'mere." She forces her daughter to remain standing. "Tell me where you were."

Madison huffs, stomping her foot.

"Go on."

The Teen stands silent for a few seconds before mumbling her words.

"I don't understand?"

She whispers, "I went to see my Mum."

"Oh." Kimberley's heart shatters.

"See," Madison points at her Mum, "This is why I didn't want to tell you."

"I just, I," Kimberley shifts. "I didn't think you'd, I don't know, I thought maybe – are we not doing a good job at parenting?"

"Of course," Madison protests. "I just had a breaking point today, with everything that happened—"

"She saw you with the fcuking bruise!?"

"I told her I fell!"

"She's an idiot if she believed you." Kimberley stands to her feet.

"You're the one that told me last time that you wouldn't mind taking me to see her!" Madison raises her voice.

"Lower you god damn voice." Kimberley hisses.

"Just when I thought we were getting along—"

"Yeah, me too. Just when I thought we were getting along I come to discover my daughter was spending eleven hours with a woman who doesn't give a flying fcuk about her!" The Mum snaps.

"She's different now, I swear."

"Yeah whatever." Kimberley walks out, leaving her daughter stood in the middle of the large living space. She couldn't believe it, after everything her and Cheryl had done for their daughter, she'd gone back to the woman who was careless with her heart. It took Madison only one breaking point to run back, not bothered how much it would break their hearts.

She sighs, finding herself walking to the library in their home, located in the east wing of the mansion. She needed some space from her girls, everything was getting too much. The tears were building up and no matter how many times she blinked them away, they still managed to make their way down her cheeks.

"Fcuking idiot." Kimberley sniffs, wiping her tears away. She beats herself down for this mess, it all could have been handled gentler, but with three wild personalities in this house, it was hard not to let it lose control. She spends the remaining of her night sat in the arm chair, unbothered to move.

Madison finally builds up the courage and looks for her Mum, until finally finding her in the Library. She clears her throat, quietly sitting across from her, unsure how to break the tension.

"What're you reading?" The Teen asks, shifting in her seat.

Kimberley ignores her.

Madison taps her fingers against the arms of her chair. "You know," She clears her throat. "Sometimes I wonder what Princess Diana would be doing right now if she were still alive." She thinks aloud, "Like, would she be happy? Or would she be spending it with her grandchildren. I think about stuff, random stuff, stuff like that."

Kimberley suppresses her smirk.

"Mam's upset with you, I can hear her sulking from here." The Teen continues her ramble, "Did you know that only 2% of the world's population has green eyes—"

"Is there a point to your ramble?" Kimberley cuts her off.

"You're not even reading that book! It's bloody upside down for Christ sake, if you're going to pretend to ignore me at least make it realistic." Madison huffs, standing up and sitting closer to her Mum. "I didn't mean to upset you."

"Yeah well you did a fine job of not trying." Kimberley rolls her eyes, tossing the book to the table. "How could you be so insensitive?" She asks, watching her daughters' face fall.

"I'm not insensitive."

"Are we not enough for you? You're being very selfish—"

"You told me you would take me—"

"I didn't fcuking mean it!"

Madison frowns, "Well," She stands up. "I, I'm glad I went, if I'm being honest."

"Why is that?"

"Because I needed that apology from her." Madison's eyes well up, "Imagine being treated like you were invisible for the longest time and finally," she sighs, "Finally getting an apology and an explanation."

"I—"

"I'm not insensitive," She continues. "I'm hurt, I'm still hurt by the past and all I wanted was to put everything to bed. I needed that talk with her, I feel like a new me."

"C'mere." Kimberley beckons her over, instantly getting a response from the Teen. "I didn't think of it in the way you have." She holds the teen in her lap, "Do you feel better?"

"Loads." Madison nods, getting comfortable in her Mother's arms.

Kimberley smiles, kissing the top of her daughter's head. "I think about Princess Diana too at times."

They share a giggle.

"You should probably go and talk to Mam."

Kimberley groans, "It's only going to lead to her sulking even more."

"She's going to think you don't care about her feelings."

"Fine." Kimberley huffs, patting the Teen's backside and standing to her feet. "If it goes to sh*t I'm blaming you." She points at her daughter.

Madison sticks her tongue out, soon smiling once her Mother was out of sight. She sighs, settling back into the sofa, and picking up the book her Mum was pretending to read.

"Babe?" Kimberley whispers, opening their bedroom door and finding Cheryl sat in bed with the television on.

She wasn't surprised when her wife ignored her, so she climbs into bed beside her.

Cheryl shifts away, keeping her eyes on the t.v.

"Oh, come on babe."

Cheryl stays silent.

"You're mad at me for making a new friend, really? I can't tell if you're joking or not."

Cheryl frowns, head snapping and looking at her wife for the first time since Kimberley had come in. "I'm fine with you making new friends," She begins. "But the fact you two have been hanging out during your work hours is really alarming." She continues, "You're all about work, what's changed?"

Kimberley sighs, turning to her side and resting her weight on her elbow as she speaks to her wife. "I'm going to be honest with you, because I believe honesty will help us here."

Cheryl nods.

"I like having a friend I could talk to – wait. Don't cut me off, let me just tell you how I'm feeling and then you can tell me how you're feeling, okay?"

Cheryl nods.

"I don't like stressing you with my stress, I've always seemed to do that, with Stephanie I feel like I can just let my load of stress out and come to you refreshed and happy. We're trying for a baby, Cheryl. Right now isn't a good time for me to be stressing you out, you're my mirror and whatever I'm feeling, you feel. And right now, I don't want my wife to be stressed and worried about me, the only thing you should be worried about is our future."

Cheryl smiles, "Can I talk?"

It was Kimberley's turn to nod.

"I like when you vent to us," Cheryl whispers, she too turning on her side. "It makes us feel like I was a part of your day."

Kimberley smiles, "My days are lame, I promise. I want to have energy for you when I come home, I don't want to feel like I'm exhausted when I come home to you."

Cheryl tuts.

"Cheryl, baby, listen." Kimberley says softly with a smile. "I'm not going to cheat on you, if that's what you're worried about. I know I was a big c*nt before, a huge one, I did some awful things in the past, but have I ever showed you now that I would do anything of that sort?"

"No."

"So just trust and believe me when I tell you that she's just my friend, nothing more, nothing less – okay?"

"I still don't like her." Cheryl mumbles, Kimberley smirks, taking her wife in for a cuddle.

"I don't think you ever will." This gets a light giggle to erupt from Cheryl's lips, her body slightly shaking from the giggle, bringing a smile to Kimberley's face. "How are you feeling by the way?" She asks, pulling the Geordie away and looking into her brown eyes.

"I'm due for me period next week, so, I'll let you know then."

Kimberley smiles, "Whatever happens, it'll be okay."

"I think I've got a pretty good ovulation system, well, sorta, I mean, I got pregnant with Maddy at such a young age and so easy... so, who knows." She shrugs cutely.

Kimberley smiles, sharing a soft kiss with her wife, she loved her – god did she love her

Just before the kiss began to grow heatedly, Madison busts through the bedroom door. "Alright kids," She jumps on the bed, tearing their kiss apart. "Glad the kissing and making up is in action." She wedges herself between them. "Can we all be normal now?"

Cheryl smiles, grabbing a hold of her daughter and squeezing her tightly, placing gentle kisses to the Teen's bruised cheek. "I love youuuuu." She groans.

"You done?"

"No." Cheryl squeezes her further, wanting to hold her like this all night, finally releasing the hold. "Do you want to go with us to work tomorrow?"

"No." Madison says straightaway, grabbing a hold of the remote and changing the channel.

"What? Why?" Cheryl frowns, not knowing her and Lauren's confrontation from earlier.

"Because I just don't." The Teen shrugs.

"Alright, what's going on?" Cheryl sits up.

"Uh, Lauren's a c*nt." Madison raises an eyebrow.

"What's she done?"

"Nothing. I just don't want to talk to her anymore, she's a nosy b*tch."

Cheryl frowns. "Why babe? What happened?"

"She went crazy over my bruise."

"Is that who you went to breakfast with?"

"Yeah." Madison gulps, hoping her Mam wouldn't ask any more questions.

"Okay, sweets. You don't have to come with us tomorrow, even though I'd really like for you to join." Cheryl smiles, pulling her daughter down for a cuddle.

"We'll see." Madison grumbles, soon smiling as she feels her Mum cuddle into them as well.

"Let's just get some sleep."

"Mmm." Madison replies.

The lights go out along with the television, curtains opened with the moonlight kissing them all to sleep.
