-Author's POV-
It was almost as if time had froze and interchanged into slow motion, from the sound of Madison's skull colliding, to the last breath escaping Kimberley's mouth. She pushes Rita back; quickly scrabbling her way to her little girl, blood slowly trickling out of her head.
"Call the—"
"You shut the fcuk up! Get me some fcuking clothes to put on her!" Kimberly grits, cradling her little girls head.
Rita grabs the first item she could seize, trying to help, but of course the anger in Kimberley's eyes could kill.
The loving mother gingerly slips the oversized t-shirt on followed by Madison's underwear.
She swiftly scoops her daughter up in her arms; speeding out of the building, Rita is quick to follow.
"Stay with me baby." Kimberley whimpers, holding her tears back. She notices Rita for the first time. "If you're going to come then fcuking drive us there." Rita doesn't argue, climbing in the drivers seat with Kimberley sat in the back, putting pressure to the back of her daughter's head.
She shakily pulls out her phone and dials Cheryl's number, taking deep breaths with each ring.
"Did you find the little shite?"
"Cheryl," Kimberley cries.
"Baby? What's the matter?!" Cheryl's heart instantly drops to the sound of her wife's tone.
"Meet me at the hospital—"
"What—"
"Just meet me there." Kimberley ends the call, attending back to her unconscious daughter; her blood begins to boil as she remembers Rita.
"You are fcuking disgusting." She growls, "I'm going to kill you."
"I'm sorry." Was all Rita could say, trying to keep her focus on the road, shaky hands gripping the steering wheel, flying through the streets of London.
It was minutes until they arrived to the A&E but it felt like years for Kimberley. She felt helpless, carrying her unconscious daughter, nurses and doctors instantly aiding to her side, taking a bloody Madison out of her arms.
She was lifeless herself, flopping down into a chair with her daughter's blood remaining to her hands, tears trickling down her cheeks, unaware she had been crying.
"Everything will be fine." Rita daringly speaks, snapping Kimberley back to reality; she springs off her seat, hands flying straight to Rita's neck ready to kill.
"You are fcuking dead." Kimberley grits, hands growing tighter.
"KIMBERLEY!" Cheryl rushes over pulling her wife away from Rita, completely oblivious to what her wife had witnessed. "What the fcuk is.. is.. Kimberley, why are your hands – where's Madison!?" She panics, breathing unevenly.
Kimberley couldn't hold her sob in any longer, slipping down to the ground and crying desperately. She gasps, grabbing a hold of her wife's calves, needing to hold on to the last hope buried inside.
"Baby? What's going on? Where-Where's Madison?" Cheryl herself was suppressing her own tears, not wanting to panic until her questions were answered.
Rita remains silent, stood still, kneading her neck that now stains with Madison's blood and Kimberley's fingerprints.
"Kimberley? Baby, please." She pleads, helping her wife back up to her feet. "Tell us what's going on."
"A-Ask-Ask her." Kimberley sobs, burying her neck into the Geordie's neck, desperately clinging to her.
"Rita?" Cheryl asks, taking a look at the pop-stars attire for the first time.
Oversized t-shirt and barefooted.
"Did something happen to Madison while she was at Jamie's? Where is he?" The naïve Geordie asks, brown eyes searching for the grey-haired father.
"N-No." Rita stutters, rubbing the side of her arm as she slowly takes a few steps back, ashamed.
"Okay I've had enough." Cheryl grits, pushing her wife back. "Tell us what the fcuk is going on!" Kimberley knew her wife was frustrated at this point; her strong Geordie accent only ever came out when she was ready to boil over.
"I-I pushed h-her." She sobs, "B-But only because of her!" Kimberley points the finger, Rita's tears quickly forming.
"It's not like that." Rita shakes her head, chin quivering.
"Tell us now." Cheryl's fists ball, teeth clench as she takes a step closer to the younger woman.
"I-I love her." Rita whispers, voice cracking.
"What?" Cheryl shakes her head, unsure if she'd heard Rita correctly.
"I-I I-I—"
"She's—"
"Miss?" A nurse interrupts their hissing, "I need the teens parents to fill out some paperwork—"
"How is she doing?" Kimberley asks in desperation, "is she okay?"
"We still haven't received any updates on her, we'll need to get some information about the patient. The doctor is also requesting her blood type—"
"Why? What's going on! Someone fcuking tell us!"
The nurse is startled by Cheryl's tone, she replies instantly. "She cracked the back of her head, she might need blood as she's lost a lot."
Cheryl's mouth goes sore, unable to speak. Hands shake; her world spinning and suddenly she needed to take a seat.
Kimberley couldn't say it, how could she tell her wife that she'd found her daughter in bed with Jamie's girlfriend – or was it ex? It was a messy web. She knew it would break her wife's heart, breaking it further more.
"Baby." Kimberley crouches in front of Cheryl, Rita giving them their space as she takes the seat furthest away.
"Tell us what's goin on." Cheryl breathes, voice weak. Kimberley takes her wife's hands into her own, placing a few kisses to her knuckles.
"I...I had a feeling remember?" Her blue-greys tear at the remembrance, "I... I knew it." She sniffs, resting her head atop of Cheryl's lap.
"You..You mean.."
"Mhm."
It went silent before Cheryl's anger shot through, pushing her wife away and bolting straight to Rita.
"Get up!" Cheryl grits, grabbing Rita by the collar and forcing her up to her feet. "If you don't get the fcuk out of this hospital you'll be a fcuking inpatient." Her hands grip tighter to the white t-shirt Rita had on.
"Please." The younger woman cries, "Please you don't understand." Her tears streak endlessly down her cheeks.
Cheryl gives her a rough shove back, "You stay the fcuk away from me fcuking family before I knock your fcuking teeth out." She walks away, leaving Rita in hysterics.
"Tell us what happened."
Kimberley sighs, not wanting to rile up her anger once more.
"Now." Cheryl grits.
And of course, Kimberley tells her every detail that happened, from finding her daughter in bed with Rita to the incident that brought them here.
Cheryl wipes her tears away, staying silent and filling out the rest of the paperwork. She had no words. Absolutely none.
All they had to do was wait, and waiting was the devils friend. It felt like hell on earth, like grains slipping through an hourglass.
Day had turned into night and still there was no word from the doctors and Cheryl couldn't sit still any longer.
"I want an update." She demands to the nurse, "I want an update now."
"They have her in the OR, we can't get an update until it's given to us. All we know is that there were complications—"
"What complications!?" Cheryl's heart picks up.
"She lost a lot of blood Mrs. Tweedy-Walsh.. She, she had to be rushed into an emergency surgery. Her brain was swelling up."
A sob escapes from Cheryl's lips, "She-She has to be alright." She cries in plead. "Please tell us she'll be alright." She cries, the feeling of her wife's arms around her only send her into frenzy. "This is all your fault!" She pushes Kimberley back, "Stay away from us—"
"Cheryl—"
"If she doesn't wakeup consider yourself single." She gives Kimberley another rough shove and walks away, now Kimberley in tears.
"Its okay Mrs. Tweedy-Walsh." The nurse comes around, comforting her. "This happens all the time, just give her the space she needs—"
"It is m-my fault." She cries, "I-I pushed her."
"It was an accident, don't blame yourself. Look, go on down to the canteen and grab yourself something to eat. This surgery wont be done for another hour or two ...if there isn't any more complications. You'll thank me later."
Kimberley nods, giving her an appreciative smile. "Thank you." She whispers, walking away, her mind remaining with her daughter.
She sits in the canteen, a black coffee in her hand now going cold. All she could do was play memories made with Madison, and how she prayed her little girl would be okay. This couldn't be the end of them; this couldn't be the end of their memories. She's still to see her grow up. She had to be alright.
'Mummy! Mummy!' Madison giggles, rushing through the large mansion. 'Look!' She holds up a tray of mini cakes. 'How's about you hire me now?'
Kimberley wipes a tear at the memory.
There was no end to them.
They were rushing through her, mentally projecting right before her eyes.
'I love you, Mum.' Madison whispers as she falls asleep in her Mothers arms.
She hears the sound of footsteps nearing, she hoped it was her wife but to her disappointment it was Rita, the one person she definitely didn't want to see.
"Stay the fcuk away from me." She grits, her tears making it inaudible to hear her words clearly.
"Please, let me just talk to you." Rita pleads, taking a seat across from the furious Mother nonetheless.
"I said—"
"Kimberley please." Rita speaks in a more dominant tone, "It's not what you're thinking—"
"I will get you locked up so quickly—"
"She loves me too, you know."
Kimberley laughs loudly, too loud for someone who was crying seconds prior.
"She doesn't know the first fcuking thing about love you twat." Kimberley leans forward, "You think my little girl is going to love someone like you? You are trash, Rita. A worn out pop-star still trying to scrape a pound." She sniggers, upsetting the younger woman.
"You don't know the kind of relationship Madison and I have—"
"Keep my fcuking daughters name out of your mouth, do you fcuking hear me!?" She snaps, "I suggest you get the hell away from me before my fist comes flying at you."
Rita sighs softly, standing up from her seat and disappearing from Kimberley's line of vision. All she wanted was to prove to the Mother that yes, she was in love with Madison, as crazy as it might sound... She just hoped Madison felt the same way. They still had so many boundaries to cross, so many walls to tear.
Kimberley takes a few more minutes to herself before retreating back to the waiting room, praying to god, any god listening to her. Wishing and praying desperately her little girl would be alright.
"Tweedy-Walsh?" Cheryl, Kimberley and Rita bolt straight out of their seat, both mothers' scurry over to the nurse, where as Rita remains in her spot, carefully listening in.
"H-How is she?" Cheryl's voice cracks to life.
The nurse smiles sympathetically, "She's sleeping."
The mother's relax, "She's had quite a tough surgery, she'll need all the rest she could get. I'll need to go over the visiting hours with yous—"
"There shouldn't be any visiting hours." Cheryl says end of, "We are her Mothers'. She needs us by her side." The Geordie says mindlessly, forgetting how upset she was with Kimberley.
"This is protocol Mrs." The nurse smiles softly, "The Doctor does want to speak to yous, he'd like to go over Madison's condition and what the next steps to take."
They gulp in unison, nodding.
Both Kimberley and Cheryl follow the nurse, like two lost puppies suddenly unknowing how to function without their little girl. They listen carefully to each word the doctor sounds. Their hands never release from one another, desperately needing the connection to remain intact and alive.
"How is she doing now?" Kimberley rasps.
"She's stable, all we can do now is wait for her to wakeup, we don't know what to expect—"
"What is that supposed to mean?" Cheryl's heart drops to the unknown.
"Well," He clears his throat, "She had a hard fall to the back of her skull to the point it cracked."
Kimberley shifts uncomfortably.
"Now I'm not saying this for a fact, but," He takes a deep breath, "To my knowledge fall like that could lead to a great loss of memory."
