Chapter 16

Hello readers!

I'm gonna fix your lives now.

It's gonna be okay.

Magnus POV

I'm floating. Floating in darkness. I can't see or hear anything, I am just aware of my semi-existence.

This is what hell looks like. I'm all alone. I'm dead, and I'm all alone. I have no one anymore.

I don't have Alec. I'll never see him again.

Maybe this is the effect of hell. Making me think horribly morbid things for the rest of eternity.

Oh my God. I'm really, truly dead.

Consul POV

I stare down at Alexander Lightwood, sobbing over a cold, silent body. And it's partly my fault. The Inquisitor is smiling gleefully, like the unhappiness of Alexander gives him supreme joy.

Looking back down at the sobbing man, I make my decision. Enough is enough.

"Listen up!" I shout. The Inquisitor gives me a panicked look. "What the hell are you doing?" he asks.

I push him out of the way and stand on the edge of the podium. "What happened today. . . It wasn't real." I gulp. "All that evidence was fake." I hear surprised gasps from the crowd.

Gulping, I continue. "The letter was forged by a warlock. The picture was painted by Clarissa Morgenstern. We kidnapped the Lightwoods, her, and the Daylighter. She was forced." I have everyone's attention now. Even Alexander has gone quiet.

"I was sent to spy on you two." I am talking to Alexander directly now. "I was convinced you were unnatural. . . Monsters. But watching you two, you seemed so happy. Not evil or plotting, but normal. I began to doubt the Inquisitor's resolve. And I was right to. This was never supposed happen. I am so, so sorry about Magnus."

Then, I turn to deal with the Inquisitor. "Take him away," I order. "He is a traitor to the Clave. Also, make sure the prisoners are released."

Alexander gives me a tiny smile, then turns back to Magnus. People start to file out of the room.

Magnus POV

Suddenly, there is a light. It shines bright, then materializes into a person. She is a young woman, but she seems so pure.

"I am the Balancer. When people die, I balance out their goods and evils. Whichever weighs more determines whether you go to heaven or hell."

"Right now, your choices are completely balanced. You have done equally right and wrong. So, you have a choice."

"Either you can go straight to heaven now, or you can live again. You would go to hell no matter what when you die again,  but you would still be yourself. What do you choose?"

I smile at her. "There's no choice." I say. "Bring me back to life. Please."

She nods, then I am engulfed in whiteness.

Alec POV

I am still staring down at Magnus's body, my hands on his chest. I can't believe that he is actually dead. He is really, really gone.

Well I think that, until I feel his steady heart start to beat.

My breath catches in shock. He can't be alive. I saw him die.

But here he is, opening his eyes, looking only as if he was sleeping.

"Hi," he says, like it is the most casual thing in the world to come back from the dead.

I start to shake. "You. . . You were dead. You were dead for a half an hour. I. . . I thought you were gone forever. How the hell could you scare me like that?"

Magnus looks offended. "You should be giving me sweet kisses and telling me how much you missed me."

So I smile. Then I do.

Robert POV

As soon as we are let out of our cells, the Consul explains to us what has happened. Isabelle is crying, and the rest of us are in total shock.

"Let me see my son," I demand.

The Consul regards me carefully. "He is in a very fragile state."

"I'm his fucking father. Let me see him."

He sighs and brings me to the Hall of Accords. There I see Alec. I expect him to be sobbing, but instead he is laughing. I have never heard him sound so happy in his life.

He is most likely delirious.

I walk to him, and he suddenly bends down, as if he's pulled. I hear kissing noises and am confused.

"Alec? Are you okay?" I ask.

He immediately stands up, startled. Now that he has moved out of the way, I can see what he was kissing.

Magnus Bane. Smiling and sitting up, looking as normal as ever.

"B-but. . . I thought he was dead," I stammer. Alec fills me in as the rest of the group files in.

When they see Magnus alive and well, they are overjoyed. Isabelle and Jace both hug Magnus and Alec, and both Maryse and I hug Alec. Simon and Clary stand in the corner, looking content.

After greetings are exchanged, Alec turns serious and looks at Magnus sternly.

"Now, explain to us how in the fucking world you were dead, and now you're alive."

HE'S ALIVE!

Yay.

This story is going to come to an end soon. It's time.

But no worries, I have plenty more ideas!
