"Do you know what you'd like to order?" The waiter stood over their table.
Brendon slowly looked up from the large menu.
"We came in thirty seconds ago. Can we have time to open the fucking menus?"
"Of course sir." He walked a few feet away.
"That was rude." Pete frowned.
"So is polygamy." Brendon muttered. Ryan kicked him under the table.
It wasn't his fault he didn't like Pete. What best friend would? He was breaking Patrick's heart every other day. Playing between him and Meagan. Knowing neither one of them could resist his charms. He was a fucking asshole.
Honestly, Brendon wished Patrick would just move on. Pete wasn't good for him. He was married to Meagan and they were expecting a child. That almost made Patrick a homewrecker. Almost because Pete was technically still married to Patrick too. Ugh, this was confusing.
Pete lifted his hand to signal the waiter to come back over.
"I just want the salmon and sides." Pete closed his menu.
"I want the.." Patrick's eyes landed on a random item. "Crispy Sesame Beef."
"With the rice and vegetable mix, sir?"
"Sure."
"I'll have the seared halibut with mushroom risotto. No truffle cream."
"And you sir?" He asked Brendon hesitantly.
"Um. Ry, what was that thing you got last time we were here?"
"The duck and noodles?"
"Yeah." He looked up at the waiter. "I want that."
"Don't get that." Ryan shook his head.
"Why not?"
"Because you only ate a little of it."
"So?"
"So when you have a full serving of it, you're not going to want it and you're going to try and eat off my plate."
"I am not."
"Yes you are. And then if you don't like the halibut, you'll pout until dessert."
"I'm not a child Ryan."
"No. You're a Brendon." Ryan looked up at the waiter. "Please get him the beef filet with gratin potatoes."
"I want the duck and noodles."
"No-"
"I'm a grown ass man!" Brendon snapped. He glared at the man. "Get me the duck and noodles."
"Yes sir." He took the menus and rushed to the back.
"You're just going to waste it." Ryan muttered.
"We'll see."
"Would you like the Chateau Covtet, sir?" A different waiter held the bottle of wine in front of Pete."
"Patrick?" Patrick shrugged. "Yes. Thank you."
The waiter opened the bottle and poured some in all four glasses. He sat the bottle on the table and walked away.
Patrick lifted his glass up and sipped first. Just tasting it. When he decided it was good, he tossed the rest of the glass back. Lifting the bottle and filling his glass again. This time he took a long swig of it. Pete watched him worriedly.
"This almost feels like déjà vu to all our other double dates." Ryan lifted his glass and sipped.
Brendon lifted his glass. "Hopefully no one's ex gets engaged tonight."
He laughed slightly at his own joke. The other three at the table just stared. Making the atmosphere slightly awkward. Brendon glanced around at his dinner companions.
"To soon?" He asked before bringing the glass to his lips. Ryan pursed his lips. "Noted."
"Speaking of that situation." Patrick started, trying to take the awkwardness from the table. "I ran into him today."
"Joe?" Brendon rolled his eyes.
"Andy."
"What?" Pete almost growled.
"I was about to kiss William and Andy sort of... Interrupted-"
"You were about to do what?" He glared.
"That's the part that concerns you?" Ryan clicked his tongue.
"It was a date. What did you expect?" Patrick asked Pete.
"I expect you not to date-"
"Of course you would expect something like that." Patrick finished off his glass. Quickly refilling it.
"Did he threaten you?" Pete asked.
"William?"
"Forget William. I'm talking about Andy."
"Why would he threaten me?"
"Pat, Andy was one of the people suspected of tampering with the car."
"What?" He choked on his drink. "No, Andy wouldn't do that. He was mad, but he wouldn't try to kill me. That's ridiculous."
"Ridiculous or not, he knows he's not allowed near you. There's a restraining order."
"Really-"
"Your meals, sir."
The conversation came to a halt as the waiter lifted the plates off his cart and onto the table.
The group of four sat silently at the table. No one wanting to be the first to restart the negative conversation.
Brendon lifted his fork and stabbed a piece of meat with it. Stuffing it in his mouth. Ryan watched his face carefully as he ate a little more. His features twisted in disappointment as Ryan knew they would.
"You don't want it, do you?"
"Yes." Brendon quickly lied. He lifted more onto his fork and chewed very slowly.
Ryan shook his head and began eating his own food. "Liar."
"The salmon is always delicious here."
"Can I taste it?" Patrick asked.
"You know what it taste like."
But Pete still cut a piece and lifted it with his fork. Holding the fork out to Patrick. Patrick wrapped his lips around the fork. Staring into Pete's eyes as he did. Leisurely sliding it off the fork and chewing it.
"That's good." Patrick said innocently.
"You always said salmon was too salty."
"Sometimes salty can be good." He liked his lips.
"Christ." Pete mumbled, lifting his glass up and taking a long swallow.
"You're a slut." Brendon told Patrick as he pushed his food around on the plate.
Patrick smiled. Pete reached his fork over and dug into Patrick's dish. Tasting it before Patrick could protest. Not that he would have anyway.
"That's actually really good." Pete reached for another bite.
Patrick used his fork to push Pete's away.
"No. You're not going to eat my whole meal." He laughed.
"I just want one more bite."
"Uh uh." Patrick lifted some into his mouth. Moaning slightly. "This is good."
"Why don't we ever do that?" Brendon pouted.
"We do." Ryan rolled his eyes. "And you only want to do that so you can eat my food because you don't like your own."
"No-"
"Yes. And you're not going to like my food anyway. It's not your taste."
"You don't know everything about me, Ryan Ross."
"Yes I do. Inside and out." Brendon blushed. "Here." Ryan stuffed his fork in Brendon's mouth.
Brendon frowned. Spitting the food out. "Ew."
"Told you." Ryan lifted his hand up, signaling the waiter back over.
"Done so soon, sir?"
"Not quite. Can I get a chocolate liqueur souffle. And an eclair?"
"You want desserts in the middle of dinner?" The man frowned.
"Obviously." Ryan glanced at Brendon. "Okay?"
"You don't know me, Ryan Ross." He said again.
"Then how do I know you were going to order exactly that for dessert? I'm just giving it to you now so you don't have to pout through dinner."
"I wasn't going to order that." He said stubbornly.
"Oh really?"
"Nope." Brendon looked up at the waiter. "I want two eclairs with that souffle."
The man nodded and walked away. Ryan laughed.
"You're insane." Patrick laughed at his best friend.
"I'll take it as a compliment."
"You would." He lifted his cup again.
"Another compliment." He smiled.
As he was holding his cup, Pete stabbed his fork into Patrick plate again. Stealing a piece of beef.
"You thief!" He placed the cup down.
He reached over to Pete. Using his finger to wipe the side of his mouth. Where some of the juice from the beef, trickled. Pete sucked Patrick's finger into his mouth.
Patrick laughed again. Snatching his finger back.
"I missed the four of us just hanging out." Ryan smiled. He lifted his cup slightly. "A toast to us."
"Just us." Brendon added. "No one else belongs in this group. Only-"
"We get it." Pete interrupted him. He knew he was referring to Meagan.
"To us!" Patrick clicked his glass against his friends'.
