Forty Five

Jefferson stopped in front of the house to let Pete and Ryan out. They ran up the steps to the porch in a childish race to the door. No time to waste. They were already going to start late because of traffic.

Pete opened the door and was faced with an eerily quiet house. It probably would have been more active if he hadn't sent the maids home today.

"Brendon!" Ryan called out as he walked towards the kitchen. "Get your lazy ass up. It's time to get going!"

His friendly banter was followed by an ear piercing scream when he finally walked into the kitchen.

Panic surged through Pete as he rushed to the sound of his best friend's yell. His heart dropped to his stomach when he reached the kitchen doorway and saw Brendon laid out on the floor.

Ryan dropped to his knees and grabbed the unconscious man in his arms. Dry sobs escaping his mouth. There were no tears in his eyes. He just stared down at Brendon, unblinking.

"Is he breathing?" Pete asked frantically. Ryan didn't respond. His only movement being his body rocking back and forth. "Ryan, is he breathing?" Pete asked again.

When Ryan ignored him the second time, Pete rolled his eyes. He bent down to check for himself but Ryan wildly slapped his hands away with one of his.

"Get the fuck away from him!" His voice was dark and sharp. A way Pete had never heard it before.

Pete backed away cautiously. "I just wanted to see if-"

"I can see for myself!" Ryan screamed. He brought his ear down towards Brendon's mouth. Tears sprinkling his eyes when he heard the short, shallow breathes.

Pete saw the slightly relaxed look on Ryan's face so be relaxed a little too. Brendon was alive. But that relaxation quickly flipped to panic mode. Where the fuck was Patrick?

"Where's Patrick?" He knew Ryan wouldn't have the answers but he had to ask the question out loud.

Instead of responding to him, Ryan dug into his pocket and pulled out his phone. Dialing the short number in before placing it over his ear. It only rang once of course.

"911, what's your emergency?"

"I need an ambulance at 27 Manic St."

"Between Forth and Fremont, sir?"

"No between fifth and chocolate cookies. Of course between Forth and Fremont, you stupid bitch!"

"Sir-"

"My fucking fiance is passed out on the ground and barely breathing. I need an ambulance now!"

"There's one on the way now sir. Please stay on the line so I-"

Ryan tossed the phone on the floor beside him. Using both his hands to hold Brendon closer again. He finally let himself cry. The fearful tears slipping and disappearing into Brendon's dark hair.

"Patrick's missing!" Pete told him. Ryan continued to ignore him. His body shaking back and forth again on the floor. "Ryan!"

"I fucking heard you, Pete!" He snapped. "What the fuck do you expect me to do? Drop my fiancé and help you search?"

Pete's worry was temporarily replaced with anger as he listened to Ryan's total disregard for Patrick's welfare.

"I expect you to act like you give a shit."

"Oh I'm sorry!" He glared up at him with red eyes. "How selfish of me to worry about my fiance instead of dropping him and focusing on your husband."

"You could at least pretend to care-"

"The same way you're pretending to give a shit about Brendon?"

"I do give a shit about him!" Pete yelled. "But he's alive and he's here! Patrick is fucking gone. Something could have happened to him!"

"Something could have happened to him. Something has happened to Brendon!"

"Brendon's a fucking klutz. He probably just bumped his head on the door."

If looks could kill, Pete would be dropping to his death right now from Ryan's gaze. A hate he never knew he could feel towards Pete, sparked to life inside of him.

"And didn't you say Patrick was cheating? Maybe he's out getting  fucked by William."

"Fuck you, Ryan!" He growled. Backing away from the kitchen. "Fuck you."

He didn't have time to focus on the man he thought was his best friend. He needed to find his Patrick. Thoughts of Andy flashed through his mind. He'd come back for Patrick more than once already. What would stop him from doing it again?

That was the only lead he had and he was sticking with it. He rushed out of the front door. Jefferson was still parked out front. Waiting for them to come out with Patrick and Brendon. Pete didn't bother getting in the back seat. He slid into the passenger's seat and slammed the door. Turning to face a very confused Jefferson.

"Patrick's missing." He told him with a broken voice. "He's missing and I think Andy took him."

"I-I-"

"But I don't know where to find Andy." His eyes fought against tears because he knew Jefferson couldn't help. No one could help. Not even him.

"Wasn't Mr. Andy in cahoots with the youngest Way brother the last time we'd heard from them?" Jefferson finally spoke.

"Yes!" Pete nodded frantically. "Oh my God, yes! Go to Company Way!"

Jefferson started the car and slammed on the gas. Pete had never seen him drive this way before. Swerving through busy streets. Speeding through red lights. Ignoring all traffic signs. Usually Pete would be afraid for his life. But he didn't have time to think about his life right now. He was too concerned with Patrick's.

They streaked to a stop directly in front of the glass doors of Company Way's office building. Pete jumped out of the car and headed for the elevator. Yes, he was in a hurry. But no way was he going to be able to run up twenty flights of stairs.

The elevator dinged and out walked none other than the Way brothers themselves. Gerard was dressed smartly in his usual suit. Mikey was dressed in all black. They both looked surprised to see him.  One of them more surprised than the other.

"Pete!" Gerard smiled. "What are you doing here?  Don't tell me you're trying to buy this company too."

Pete wasn't in the mood to small talk Gerard. His eyes were focused in on Mikey's. Mikey was staring back easily. No signs of backing down visible.

"Where's Andy?"

"Andy?" Mikey repeated. Tilting his head to the side in faux confusion.

"Andy Hurley?" Gerard asked. "As in Mikey's boyfriend?"

Again, Pete ignored him to focus on Mikey. "Where is he?"

"Petey, I'm surprised you came to visit me." Mikey smiled. "I thought we weren't friends anymore. You look good."

"Don't test me, Michael." Pete took a step closer to him.

Gerard moved to stand between them. "Pete, what is this about?"

Finally, Pete looked at Gerard. But only because he had to. "My husband is missing. And Mikey's boyfriend has him."

"Oh, dear." Gerard gasped. "But what does that have to do with my brother?"

"Everything."

"Then why aren't the police the ones in here questioning him?"

"I-I haven't filed a report." He admitted. "It hasn't been twenty four hours yet."

"Then maybe he isn't even missing at all."

"He is!" Pete snapped.

"Andy told me what a wild card he was for dick." Mikey smirked. "Maybe he's out getting some of that."

In the blink of an eye, Pete had pushed pass Gerard. He yanked Mikey towards him by his shirt's collar. Pushing him up agaisnt the glass elevator doors.

"Pete, I'm going to have to ask you to leave." Gerard stood up straight and dusted his suit off his his hands. "Debra." He sped towards the front desk. "Call in security."

"Thread carefully, Petey." Mikey whispered. "I wouldn't want little Patty to get hurt. . . Where ever he may be."

"Is that a threat?"

"It's a warning." He shrugged against Pete's hands. "And you should be shaking in your boots."

"Boots are your thing, and my shoes ain't shaking."

"They should be, Petey."

Pete's hands went from his collar to his neck. "If you lay a finger on my husband, I will choke life out of you."

Mikey laughed. But it was strained against Pete's tightening hands.

"Oh, Petey." His voice was barely audible. He turned his head and kissed the inside of Pete's wrist. Pete dropped his hands in disgust. "Don't threaten me with a good time."

"Sir?" Pete turned to face the large security gaurd. "I'm going to have to ask you to leave."

Pete just nodded. He turned to walk out of the door.

"We don't have to let this come between our business relationship." He heard Gerard call after him.

Pete stalked towards his car. Getting in and slamming the door shut twice as hard as he did the first time. Jefferson stepped on the gas immediately.

"Where to, sir?"

"Home."

He need to see if there was any signs of struggle in the house. Then the police would take it serious as a possible kidnapping.

"Yes, sir."

Jefferson drove the same way he did before. Recklessly and carelessly. They got back to the house twice as fast as they normally would have. As soon as the car skidded to a stop, Pete was out of it. His purposeful stride pausing when he saw Meagan standing in the lobby of his house.

He slowed his pace. Approaching her slowly. One glance towards the kitchen area told him that Brendon and Ryan were gone. So why the fuck was she in his house alone?

"Meagan?"

She turned at the sound of her name.

"Pete!" She sighed. "I've been calling and texting you. And then I came to the house and saw the ambulance. I thought something happened to you."

"What did you want?"

"What's happening?" She asked instead. Her dark eyes squinting with concern.

"Patrick's missing. I think he was kidnapped."

"Kidnapped?" Her eyes went wide with worry.

"Yes and Brendon was hurt."

"Oh my goodness." She placed her hand over her heart. "Not Brendon too. C-Can I help?"

"No."

"O-Okay."

Pete walked past her to enter the kitchen. He wasn't sure what he was looking for. Maybe a footprint or even Patrick's phone. God forbid he find a blood stain.

Meagan waited until he was out of sight to take out her phone. She scrolled through her recent messages until Mikey's name showed up. Her fingers quickly typed.

Meagan: You just complicated this thing x100. The order was KILL not KIDNAP. Incompetent idiot!

Before she could hit send, the phone was being snatched from her manicured hands.

She could feel herself beginning to shake as her gaze slid over to Pete's scorching one. She looked from his eyes to her phone and then back at his eyes.

Without hesitation, he slammed her back agaisnt the nearest wall. Her surprised yelp filled the otherwise silent house. Pete took a step closer to her. She held her hands out in front of her.

"Please no! I'm pregnant, remember?" She placed her hands on her bulging stomach. "We're pregnant."

"Take me to my husband, Meagan." His voice was calm and steady as he slipped her phone into his back pocket.
