The lights shut off just before the explosion could be heard. Like it was too horrific to be seen, so a merciful darkness blanketed the scene before they could witness it. The glass doors of the building creaked open with a slow and menacing sway. The girls outside stood aghast and trepid, fearful of the situation that lay ahead. The hairs on the nape of their necks stood straight, and their eyes were frozen open with shock, peering in on the blood bath ahead. The stench of death filled their nostrils, a smell that forced the girls to take shallow breaths, and the reek of pain and fear and desperation lingered in the air, screaming at the girls to leave, shouting at them to run away, away to anywhere that wasn't there.
Sophie creeped forward, one small shaky step after the other, letting the soles of her shoes break the thin sheet of red that laced the floor. A girl- no, a thing - lay beside her, mangled and torn, the remains of a being piled on the cement. This catastrophy was what was left of Tally, only but a lower torso and legs remained, her head, chest, and arms had been obliterated in the blast, leaving what could only be described as a long abused chew toy of a ravenous dog. She knelt next to her, taking one final look at the body, before turning away, gagging. She tried desperately to erase the image of the body from her mind, tried to replace it with what Tally looked like before, but it was like the memories of Tally before this dreadful day disappeared long ago, they vanished before Sophie's very consciousness, they simply drifted far from her reach, and off they went, like a boat to the horizon.
Olivia softly cried out from in the room, wincing in pain from doing so. Joanna heard Olivia, and in a matter of seconds rushed to Olivia's side, dropping down to the ground beside her, which caused a splash of blood to shoot up into the heavy night air.
"Olivia! Look at me Liv! Liv..." Joanna propped Olivia's head onto her knees, keeping her comfortable. Joanna ran a hand through Olivia's heavy wet hair, soaked with the blood of multiple unsuspecting bodies, it stuck to Olivia's face in random directions, dragging streaks of crimson across her soft cheeks. Olivia looked to Joanna, still in pain, but feeling relived to be in her touch, she smiled as she thought of once Upon A Times and Happy Ever Afters where none of this would have happened, and they would be safe, worrying about their petty first world problems, and complaining about their stupid undeserving privileges. Joanna looked to the other girls, who still stood stunned in the chilled air outside, letting the moon light wash over them, hoping that it would clear their minds of what they had witnessed only moments before.
"Guys we need to do something! We need... we need to-" Joanna began, searching through her mind, but suddenly she had a loss for words and couldn't think, like the whole situation that had occurred was putting up walls to prevent her from making decisions or thinking of solutions. However before she had time to smash through the bricks in her head, she was cut off by someone else speaking their mind.
"-bandage them up, to stop the bleeding, and to keep the wound together" a voice echoed from outside, everyone turned to see who had offered the words, only to the settle their eyes on an out of breath Sarah, with a frail but alive Abigail by her side, both of them carrying armfuls of bandages and bottles of rubbing alcohol and something the girls couldn't quite make out under the cover of darkness. Relief flooded through the girls who stood outside, finally breaking their trance, seemingly taking a breath so deep one would assume that they hadn't been breathing for days, gasping for the sweet taste of air. Izzy, Sophie, and Saskia all stumbled over to the pair, taking some of the supplies from their grasp, and taking them inside, little spurts of blood flying from their feet each time they took a step further into the room. Chiara, and Alex followed soon after, taking what they needed and rushed over to a girl in need. Saskia walked over to Sophie, and gave some of her supplies to the girl, who was still standing over Tally's remains, forever in awe over the complete mess the bomb made of her, and subconsciously rubbed her neck with her one free hand, running her fingers over the area that Tally did, just before she-
"Ok everyone, there needs to be 2 people on everyone who needs help, you need a bandage and some rubbing alcohol" Sarah called out, scanning there room to make sure everyone had the appropriate supplies, she quickly moved to the girl closest to her, passing Joanna a bandage and the sterilising liquid, before sitting down on the opposite side of Olivia. Sophie and Saskia sat as an inseparable pair with Jemima, Chiara and Abigail with Olivia Shew, and Alex and Izzy carefully with Steffi. Sarah had gone into full doctor mode, thinking methodically, using her relatively extensive knowledge about wounds and how to fix them to the best of her ability.
"Alright, one person from each pair needs to hold the girl down by their shoulders, its important they don't move too much" Sarah ordered, she followed her own instructions first as an example, and soon enough everyone else copied her exactly, then from this position she singled for Joanna to take over so she could show the next step. The 'patients' as you could call them, were groaning and crying lightly, they were weak, but in the face of danger and pain adrenaline was surging through their veins, so their strength was uncharacteristically powerful.
"The other person in your pair is going to take some rubbing Alcohol and pour a little bit over edges of the wound, just to sterilise it, but it'll hurt, so make sure you hold them down well" Sarah readied her hand with the Alcohol, the cap already off, and waited for the others to finish preparing for the step. When everyone had finished, Sarah briefly looked into Olivia's eyes, which were draining as her consciousness slipped further away from her. Sarah worked quickly, she gently and strategically poured a small amount of the liquid onto Olivia, In response the girl screamed and arched her back, she twisted under Joanna's grip, and it pained Joanna to see her in this struggle against her, but she kept her firm to the ground. Sarah stopped the flow of Alcohol to give Olivia a short break, and to reposition her hand, but after a few seconds she poured the Alcohol again, this time Olivia still winced and tensed her muscles, but she did it so in a muted manner. The other groups went on to do the same, they all whimpered and gritted their teeth in pain, but they also did so in a dulled down way, just like one would do to a light bulb, or as one would lower the volume on a song. Sarah looked on at each of the patients, examining that each job had been done to an acceptable manner, and once she was finally satisfied with what had been done, she moved on.
"Ok, now, we have to staple close the wounds, so they stop bleeding" Sarah pulled out a common stationary stapler, and held it out in front of her. She popped open the lid and spilled out the staples, and started to pour some of the Alcohol on them, sifting them through her fingers.
"Are you crazy! there is no way that you are gonna put some fucking staples in me!" Olivia Shew retaliated, attempting to sit up and immediately resting back on the ground again, scrunching her face up in hurt. She made sure to get across her objection, in the way she looked over to Sarah or in the way she twisted her hands into fists.
"We have to, theres no other way that I can think of" Sarah replied, loading the staples group by group back into the Stapler, giving a standard and simple reply.
"No! I am not going to put some staples in my fucking skin! I won't let you do that to me! id rather fucking ha-"
"Do you want to die?" Saskia scolded, turning to look at her after she said her words, Olivia glared back, speechless. "Well? Do you?" she repeated. Olivia gave no response, she turned away and huffed to the ceiling, defeated. "Thats what I thought, now shut up and let us help you and Jemima and Steffi and Liv" Saskia straightened her posture and looked around the room, handing the spotlight back over to Sarah, who had just finished loading the Stapler. She looked to Saskia and thanked her with her eyes, a brief yet heavily appreciated gesture, and then went on to explain the next step.
"This is the hardest part, and I think its best if I do it for everyone, because not only is it very precise work, but its important that the patient stays very, very, still." Sarah warned, "So its probably best if two people hold down each patient, Not to mention that this will be much more painful." Sarah readied the Stapler, hovering it just above Olivia. Olivia's breathing spiked as the cold metal touched to her throbbing wound, and Abigail came over to assist in holding her down. Olivia felt the blood on the floor ripple against her sides as her spine was pushed flat. She readied herself for the pain she was to endure, holding Joanna's hand in anticipation, squeezing it to the point were Joanna couldn't feel her fingers, not that she noticed in amongst the other emotions in her head. Sarah pinched the skin around the wound together, which hurt Olivia, a tear escape through her sealed shut eyes, closed in anticipation. "Alright, im going to do 3 staples ok, thats all. Take a deep breath in for me, thats good, and now breathe out" Just as she said the words she pushed the Stapler down into her skin, forcing the metal stitch through her flesh and together again. Olivia screeched in anguish, a stream of blood seeped from the cut, adding to the already large collection of it on the ground around the girls. She flailed and cried under Joanna and Abigails Hands, begging them to let her go through shattered breaths. Joanna felt a deepening pain in her heart, like a dagger being pushed slowly into the organ. Her eyes began to water as she saw the agony plastered on Olivias face, feeling ridiculously guilty about the situation. She was about to let go, she was about to exclaim that she couldn't do this to her bebs, but at just that moment Sarah spoke again. "well done! that was really great Liv, you did super well. Only two more ok, you got this. we are gonna do the exact same thing, ok? just breathe in, and, breathe out" Just as Sarah did with the other staple, she did with this one, almost the exact same reaction occurred, still seeing the hurt on her innocent and increasingly pale face.
Sarah repeated the same ritual like actions for each girl, all of them having very similar reactions to the pain, some of them were affected more by it, and some of them were determined to hide the emotions in them. Soon enough, each girls' wound had been sealed close, so now only the bandage was needed. The girls were sat up and carefully wrapped in bandage, looking as though they were going to be mummies. The bandages were spotted with blood from the girls hands holding them, or maybe it was from them being dropped in the bathes of crimson below, or maybe it was seeping in from the wounds on their stomachs, or maybe it was a grand combination of them all. After Sarah carefully investigated each bandage wrap to ensure it was done correctly and well, she sat down against a blood splattered wall, taking a deep breath against herself, finally realising the tension she had subconsciously been holding onto.
