Not All Is What It Seems
Lily closed the door behind her, and walked towards the group.
"Tally isn't coming with us" Lily said to the girls, trying to hold down the guilt she felt, pressing it down and replacing it with an artificial kind of thankfulness.
The girls exchanged a look of worry and agreeance, silently deciding that Tally should be left to her own thoughts, it would be better if she stayed. They started up the stairs to M315, jogging once they reached the top. Jemima moved forward, ready to venture into the new building from the bridge.
"Wait!" Joanna skidded to a stop, with a look of realisation on her face, looking as though she'd had been slapped with it. "The gas..." she needed not say anything more, the girls understood. Jemima and Alex looked forward into the building behind the closed doors. Jemima defeatedly took her hand away from the reach of the handle. However Chiara refused to let the girls bodies lay in that building alone, she refused to leave them behind, she refused to dehumanise them so soon. She put her own hand on the handle, hesitantly looking around at the sceptical faces of the others. She looked forward into the corridor through the glass, and pushed down on the handle. The door swung open, and while the other girls held their breath, Chiara sucked in a gulp of air. She took one step, then two, then three. She felt... fine. She looked back at the others who had yet to walk inside, confused.
"The gas must have spread out, it mustn't be as deadly when spread out" Sophie chirped in, once again saving herself with her logic. "But we shouldn't stay in there too long, it could still make you very sick"
Chiara nodded, and began to walk swiftly towards the room, the door wide open. Alex ran past her, arriving at the door in a matter of seconds. Joanna met Chiara's pace, and Olivia went to Joanna's side, they linked arms, feeling safe in each other's warmth, gaining a kind of confidence, feeling like they had to protect each other. Joanna protecting Olivia with her craziness and willingness, and Olivia protecting Joanna with her logic and care. Sarah and Sophie trailed slowly and carefully behind the others, holding their shirts up to their mouths, examining the walls with caution.
Alex stood in the opening to the room, petrified, confused, not believing what she saw. The others joined her, taking gasps of air, and immediately regretting it. Seeing the Bodies in the flesh was so overwhelming, an unmissable sense of reality draped over them all, like being trapped underwater, sinking further and further down, feeling the water compress every single side of their body, but still being able to breathe.
Alex stumbled over to Izzy, dropping down to her knees, doubling over in an incredible amount of pain and distress, she ran her fingers over Izzy's outline, still feeling the last touches of warmth in her body. Sophie rushed over to Saskias body, folded together on the floor, Sophie wept, her crystal blue eyes drained, as though the colour was being leaked through each tear. Sarah creeped over to Abigail's body, barely breathing, barely feeling in control. She sank down onto the floor, sitting on her side, her legs splayed out beside her. She ran a hand through Abigail's still life filled hair, feeling the emotion in her cries and sporadic breaths. Joanna and Chiara looked on from the door, feeling the pain of the room in their hearts, Joanna's finger tips were shaking, she desperately tried to keep her composure, tried to stay strong, tried to lock away her emotions, tried to win the battle raging inside of her, but she collapsed onto the floor, her weight became too much for her to hold. She took deep breathes on the cold, wet carpet, closing her eyes away from the world. Chiara stood still at the door, absorbing the situation, still not letting it sink into her, kept pushing it away and keeping it out, she has to stay strong and full in this broken apart hell.
Sophie was crying into Saskias arm, begging and wishing and praying that she would come back, she felt a part inside of her chip away, every time that she took a breath it became smaller, beginning to become nothing more than dust. She looked to her face, such a graceful girl, soft skin and the complexion of only the best. Sophie lay next to Saskia, looking
into her closed eyes, examining her face, she had never noticed how alive it seemed. Sophie closed her eyes, and dug deep inside to pull herself together, only for a few moments, to say what she needed to.
"Why did you have to be chosen" she whispered. She touched her forehead with her own, feeling her own cold skin meet with hers. Sophie slowly flickered open her eyes again, letting the tears fall away that made her vision blurry. Sophies neck felt warm with breath, she hadn't noticed it until now, only now feeling the re occurring liveliness. Sophie moved her head back, she looked to Saskias mouth, she saw the faint movement of her lips. Sophie was perplexed, she looked closer at her eyes, looking deep into them. Slowly, Saskias eyelids cracked open, looking blankly into sophies eyes. Sophies breathing hitched, thinking she was dreaming, thinking she had gone crazy. Saskia looked deep into sophies eyes, not registering that she was there, she was really there, saskia was ok.
"Guys! Saskia is alive! She's ok!" Sophie belted out, crying In a smile. Hugging her through and through, lifting Saskias body up into her own, holding her head to her chest. Saskia was still in a daze, she felt sick, but ok, she felt sophies heart in her ear, it was like a reassuring sign that she was alive, that she was ok, that sophie was really there, that herself was really there. Joanna and Chiara rushed over, seeing Saskias eyes only open by a wisp, but being amazed and overwhelmingly happy that she was alive. Joanna hugged sophie and saskia together, feeling like she had emptied out her insides and replaced them with the moons rays.
Alex looked wide eyed at the girl who was just resurrected, and felt an unnatural shock and hope that the same luck would reside with Izzy. Alex snapped her head around to Izzys body, she gently cupped her face with her hands, slightly shaking her, desperately trying to awaken her. Izzy's eyes flickered open, settling on Alex's, Izzy felt a smile on her face, a smile that spread from ear to ear, but it wouldn't show, Alexi only saw Izzy's pale and tired face. Alex smiled for them both, keeping silent, just laughing in happiness.
Sarah tore her eyes away from the other girls, placing them on Abigail, Sarah's heart raced with adrenaline and hope. Sarah shook at Abigail, again and again, becoming more vigorous with each movement, becoming more confused and frightened with each second.
"Guys, Abigail. She's not... she's not waking up"
