Chapter 7- Words Like Knives

I went outside to throw our trash away, and apparantly so did Chase.

"Mornin', sunshine," he said with a smile as he opened the bin and threw that trash in as I did the same with my own.

"Morning," I replied monotonously without looking at him and turned to walk away.

"Hey, is everything alright?" He asked as he grabbed my wrist and spun me around. I gave him a tight smile and tugged on my wrist.

"Everything's perfectly fine, Chase. Now let me go because I have stuff to do," my face held a sickening sweet, fake smile and all Chase's held was a frown of worry.

"Why don't I believe you? And what kind of stuff?" He asked as he let go of my wrist and crossed his arms over his chest.

"If you don't believe me, that's your problem, not mine. And why would I tell you what I'm doing? I mean, apparantly you don't tell me what you're doing, so why should I be the only one giving on my part?" I crossed my own arms over my chest as Chase's eyes widened at my hints and he rubbed the back of his neck in guilt.

"Adri I'm so-" he began.

"No, no, Chase. You have nothing to apologize for. It was actually my fault. Stupid ol' me thought we still close as we were before, but nope. So actually I'm sorry. Will you forgive me?" I asked in sarcasm.

"Adri stop it. I'm really sorry okay? It's just that Nicole-"

Of course.

"Suggested that we'd go out together alone and I agreed because she is my girlfriend and we are allowed to go out alone. As a matter of fact, why am I apologizing? I didn't do anthing wrong," he huffed out and threw his hands up in the air. I gasped and narrowed my eyes at him. My anger bubbled up and I turned my face sideways to avoid his stare.

"You know what Chase? Fine," I said and walked towards my house.

"Wait, Adri! What does that mean?" I heard him call out before I shut the door. My chest tightened and I let a breath, that I didn't know I was holding, out.

"It means that it's time to move on from you, Chase," I whispered silently to myself and walked away from the door. Walked away from him.

**

Okay Adri, just do it. Text him and say you do want to get to know him better and then you'll be happy. I stared at the phone in my hands with hesitation. With courage, I scrolled for his number in my contacts until I found it.

My fingers started typing and I hit the send button before I chickened out.

Me: Hey George. It's adri i was just checking to see if your offer for tomorrow was still up? if not it's totally fine

George was a weird and... geeky guy, who asked if I wanted to go to the movies with him three weeks ago. Let's just say there were a lot of rain checks from my part. In no time, there was a response.

Geeky George: Of course!!!!!!!!! Yes!!! I'll pick you up at five today ;))))

I winced at the exclamation marks and winky face. I'm so regretting this.

**

At five, I was already done with my outfit, which I truly didn't even bother because who am I kidding? It's flipping George! There was a knock on the door and I walked ever so slowly down the stairs. My parents were at work so I took my time getting there. Then the doorbell rang. Then more knocks. Then the doorbell. Then kno-

"God damn it, George I'm going!" I yelled and the knocking stopped. I swung the door open to find George dressed in a very fancy outfit.

"You look beautiful as always, Adri," he said with a smile and handed me a tulip... a very familiar looking tulip. I looked beside him at my mom's tulips.

"Uh, thanks. You look very... dressed," I replied and he blushed . He freaking blushed.

Please let this night go by fast.

We walked towards his car, but before I got to it, I heard a cough behind me and I turned around to see Chase standing there with his arms crossed. I turned back around and continued walking to George's car.

"Adri!" He called and I turned to face him... again.

"I'm in a hurry, Chase," I replied tiredly.

"Yup, a huge hurry," he teased and I gave him a flat look. "Just kidding. So where are you going?"

"To the movies with George, now bye."

"You're going to the movies? With George?" He asked. His eyes flashed with something unfamiliar.

"Why are you saying his name like that? Yes I'm going to go to the movies with him. There's nothing wrong with that, or is there?" I asked with irritation and I placed my hand on my hip. Chase looked sideways and then back to me in annoyance.

"It's Geeky George!" he replied and I gasped.

"Don't call him that!" Chase rolled his eyes.

"You have him in your contacts as that," he gave me a pointed look.

"So?" I scoffed.

"So? Not even you like hi-". From the corner of my eye, a figure approached.

"Shh. He's coming over here," I replied quickly.

George came up beside me and wrapped an arm around my waist.

"Sorry to interrupt, but we have a date," George spoke up with a smile. I wanted to argue about our... outing title, but seeing the look on Chase's face when he said the word 'date' made me refrain myself. His eyes had narrowed, but he quickly composed himself.

"Well, who am I to stop you both? Have fun and use protection. Wouldn't want you to have to pay child support now do we?" He asked and my heart cracked. How could he say something like that? He knows perfectly well I don't sleep around and what he said made it sound like he was implying that I did.

"Don't worry, we'll make sure we do. See you later," I replied bitterly while looking at him with stinging eyes as I grabbed George's hand. Chase's eyes held sadness and repent. He clenched his jaw as he looked down at the ground.

We got in the car and I turned to look at George who was smiling broadly.

"Are we really going to-"

"Don't even finish that sentence," I warned and his smiled dropped. He cleared his throat and started the car. I rested the side of my head on the window and closed my eyes.

This should be you Chase.
